I wanted to build one but my time is more valuable than my money and with the price of steel like it is I just picked one up for $1500 and put it on. I had to build a partial sub-frame to match the bed up with the truck frame.

I put a flat bed on my truck and it is the smartest thing I have done (next to asking my wife to marry me). The reason I like it so much is because it is tough, you can't hurt it. Unless you are driving a '72 Chevy, the truck bodies these days are of very poor quality and it does not take much to tear them up and put dents in them. A flatbed is the perfect work bench, shooting bench or sleeping area. I built some racks for mine and I can haul a load of fire wood or just about anything else that needs to be hauled. Heck, I don't worry when my teenage daughter takes the truck and I don't even mind when other drivers tailgate me on the highway...

Mr. Quimby I just got back from Greer. I do not know where your place is or I could have checked it. Most of the the homes that were destroyed were on East Fork Road east of the LCR. The number of homes destroyed is closer to the 22 that inciweb is now reporting. As always, the fire behavior was strange, one house would be destroyed and the next one was not touched. They were working the west side of town real hard. The DC-10 had made one drop and was returning for a second when I was there. Most of the fire activity was south and east. Coming in to Greer Red Setter Coming into Eager from Greer on 260 Backburn along 260 South Fork west of Eager

Voted for ya. It looks like you are in the lead!

...just to clarify, I wouldn't trade it for any thing. I love that scope.

I have an NXS 5-22. It is big, bulky and well built. They are nice scopes.

Looks good! What did you ever do with the "Pink Panther" lion?

I started with a 1909 Argentine Mauser 98 action that had been cleaned up a bit. Bill Quimby pointed me in the right direction when he strongly suggested that this classic action deserved a "nice piece of walnut" when I was finished. After much consideration I decided that nothing is more "classic" than a full stocked Mannlicher style carbine. I love the look but some "nay sayers" have told me that a Mannlicher will not "shoot" due to the barrel band and pressure points on the barrel caused by the full length stock. Does any one have any experience with a full length stock? Would you free float the barrel or maybe even glass bed it? Some of you "purists" may not care for it but I like the look of stainless/wood so I sent the action to Robar for their NP3 coating. The barrel and other hardware will also receive the NP3 treatment before the rifle is finished. Chris Horn built a 20" Apex barrel for me chambered in 6.5 X 284 with a 1:9 twist. The challenge will be to make this "modern classic" shoot accurately out to 500+ yards! For the stock, I am considering Great American Gun Stocks in Kalifornia. Does anyone have experience with this company? I have seen some negative feed back on the internet but they are about the only company I can find that will build a custom Black Walnut stock in the Mannlicher style. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks

Ron, it will be several years before I have any "spare time" but I will make it a point to come by any way. -
Yea I know but I hate to go out of state when I keep seeing those big boys running around in 5A. Maybe next year my 20 points will get me a tag.
