i did try to read the other book once. it was so slanted against the power boys that i gave up on it. according to the book they were craven animals. they were just kids that lived in the middle of nowhere and their dad got into a fight with the sheriiff who then tried to teach ol' jeff a lesson and got killed for it. the wootens were a buncha trash from all i ever gathered. and tom sisson got blinded in one eye in the fight too. seems like a bullet went through a saddle and sent splinters into his eye. he was a retired cavalry soldier who was just visiting the power family when the shootout occurred. served his country honorably for many years and died in prison while being completely innocent of any crime other than running away. what else could you do when that mess took place? i've been to power's garden several times. went in with sandrails once, before they made it a wilderness. one rough ride. the forest circus has a model t pickup that the power's took in there shortly before the shootout. it was parked in the drift of the mine and was there untill i think in the 60's. the usfs flew it out with a chopper and painted it green. used to always drive it in parades and stuff. another great story that took place in the same general area, was the wham robbery. now i actually had kin in on that one. but so did everbody else that is from pima, but we won't name no names. power's garden is still in the middle of nowhere. think of how remote it was then? good heck, that was the other side o' the world. pretty cool place and there are some grotesquely huge coues in that wilderness. i'd love to be able to spend a month in there horseback after a coues. Amanda, what a wonderful and thoughtful thing to do. i'm really touched. thank you. they had to take Lark back in today because she had some breathing problems. pretty stressfull day for them. i was off elk hunting and didn't know until later. guess she's ok now, but she'll probably be there until saturday, minimum. thanks again to everyone for the prayers and kind words and thoughtful actions. it really means a lot. Lark.

wait'll ya see photos of the bull my boy shot yesterday. it is insane big. they'll probly write songs about it. i sent one to Amanda so maybe it'll make it soon. georgetta is a blast to hunt with. no canyon is too deep and no mountain is too far. and when it gets to shootin' time, she can get that done too. we always have a lot of fun. i've been with her in blizzards that got knee deep in an hour and she just keeps on going. hope we have more of these hunts together. Lark.

i have a copy but you cant have it. i knew em both. and their name is power, not powers. good dudes that got railroaded big time. too bad they didn't kill that sorry assed deputy marshall that ran away too. i know a lot of guys that knew em as kids, before the shoot out. know a couple guys that were on the posse. there was quite a bit that didn't make it into the book too. when i was a kid i worked in a grocery store that they used to shop at all the time. for a time they lived with some friends that i went to school with. sorta sad the way they were screwed over. when they went into prison you seldom saw an automobile and when they got out they were shootin' guys into space. my grandad said they were such good shots it was spooky. guess that sorta showed during the shoot out. the guy that got really screwed over was tom sisson. he was just there and ended up dieing in prison. i'm actually sorta shirttail related to the sherrif that got killed. thanks a lot for the concern. this has been a really trying and tough time, but at the same time there have been some really special things happen during all of it. and while she spent all those weeks there it was easy to see she was one of the lucky kids. some of those poor little fellers really have a rough road ahead of em. Lark has a great future and her prospects are great. after they take that trake out in a few months she oughta really get revved up. take care of your kids and be thankfull perpetually that they are healthy. even if they're knotheads. keep em in line and learn em up right. teach em what is really important. well, i'm headed out the door to elk hunt with Bridger. later, Lark.

i got to personnaly tromp around in that burn this weekend. a lot of what burned is private land. also a lot of it is land that belongs to the azgfd. that they like to use for winter feed for elk. this little fire did a lot of damage that will take decades to recover. but all the forest circus has to say is that they were trying to improve habitat and it's all better. several folks are real lucky their homes and barns weren't burned. well, now the lawyers will get to take this to court to sue the forest circus for burning the private land and we not only have to put up with habitat loss and big reduction in winter feed in the area, but we get to pay all the court costs and however much the landowners collect with our taxes. yeah, the forset circus did us a real favor here trying to improve the habitat. burned a lotta grass and cost a lotta money. if a private citizen did this they'd end up in prison, even if it was an accident. they did it intentionally. but i kinda doubt if anyone suffers much over it. and they'll do it again. and again............Lark.

the forest circus couldn't care less about how much damage they do or inconvenience they cause. they light their fires when they will cause the most problems for sportsmen and ranchers and anyone else who uses the land. they have a certain set of criteria they are supposed to use, but it has been proven time and time again that they work contrary to it. read this little article and maybe research it a little more. it says a lot about the usfs. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cerro_Grande_Fire if you think the forest circus gives a $h!t about anything but politics, you ain't very smart. tomorrow will be 28 days in the icu for our granddaughter. but tonight she was smiling, trying to crawl around in her bed, playing with some toys and laughing. even tho when she laughs she still can't make any noise, because of all the trauma she's had to her trachea and voice box and stuff. she still has hoses and tubes and wires all over her. things were really dire for awhile. she came as close as you can a couple times. she still has some trying times. she was on fentanyl, a morphine drug 10x as strong as morphine, for 2 weeks, and now they have to give her methadone to treat the withdrawl symptoms. sorta like being in rehab, along with everything else, at 6 months. but it's a good thing, without being able to paralyze her while all the surgery healed up, she probably wouldn't have been able to recover. she ain't quite outta the woods yet, but you can see the prarie through the trees. it's a rotten deal and i'd hate to go through it again, but it looks like it's gonna have a happy ending. you guys remember what's important. next time your kids are raisin' h e l l or disappoint ya, be thankful they ain't sick. and always let em know how important they are. i wish i coulda seen her smile a little better. it's hard to see through all them tears of joy. Lark.

it's been over 48 hours after the tracheotomy. she's smiling and laughing and playing with anything she can get her hands on. pulled out her i.v., feeding rube, ventilator, blood pressure monitor. they completely disconnected the ventilator this morning and she is breathing fine on her own. maybe this is the beginning of recovery. they said she would probably keep it in at least until the spring, after all the flu and cold seasons are over. poor thing laughs all the time, but all you can hear is gurgling coming out of her tube, but it sounds pretty good to us. anyway, we're all happy right now. thanks for all the concern. Lark.

loaded, per the law, means one in the barrel. the magazine don't count. colorado is real stiff on "loaded" guns in the vehicle. but it means loaded in the chamber. muzzloaders can have a load in them, but the cap has to be removed. Az used to have a no loaded law and there were several instances of folks getting shot trying to unload their gun when they saw a warden. as it is now, there isn't a law in Az about loaded firearms in a vehicle. and the road hunting deal is pretty weak. i know a guy that was on a quad and his wife was on behind him and she had her rifle slung over her shoulder. a really stupid warden cited em for road hunting. they were on a maintained road and on a legal machine and got a ticket. it was an ugly sucker before it was over with and they didn't pay a fine and they were after compensation from the warden for time and attorney fees and pain and suffering and all that last i heard. but just because it ain't against the law to have one in the barrel in Az, it ain't a good idea to do it. i know this much, every shooting accident in the history of guns involved a gun with one in the barrel. no round in the barrel, no shooting accident. it's that simple. like the Duke always said, "life is hard, it's even harder when you're stupid". make things easier, don't be stupid. Lark.

home depot use to sell a pretty good looking safe. plain jane, just gray, no shiny stuff. good fire rating and looked really tough. might try them. they weren't real spendy, but appeared to be a good set up. i would imagine they could order one still. if you get one, get one that is too heavy to pack off and made of plate steel, no sheet metal. Lark.

a model 11 is the same thing as a browning auto 5. remington made the 11 on a browning patent. an auto 5 barrel will work on it. go to a gunshow. somebody will have one. i think there is one this weekend. Lark.

hey guys, thanks a lot for the concern. it really matters and helps. this has been a rough week. so far this week she's had a rib graft to make the rings in part of her trachea bigger, had a stent removed, quit breathing 3 times, heart stopped once, found out her vocal cords don't work and now they're gonna do a tracheotomy in the morning. we're all sorta relieved about the tracheotomy. you can only cheat the grim reaper so many times. the vocal cord deal is pretty serious. you have to have em work in order to be able to cough, swallow without choking, drink, all kinds stuff. coughing is the main thing. she can't clear her lungs and the flem keeps building up. the tracheotomy will be a lot of work for her folks, but they are quite safe. they said she could have it from weeks to years. depends on how long it takes to get the nerve function back to her vocal cords and for her airway to heal up. the vocal cords are really critical. i never knew what all they did. an adult that you can tell what they need to do can get along pretty good without em working, but a 7 month old kid that doesn't know what to do can get bad real quick. anyway, today was 35 days, 5 weeks, in the icu. dr's are pretty sharp folks. PCH is a good place for a sick kid to be. anyway, thanks for the concern. she's gonna whip this thing, but it's gonna be awhle longer before she's plum well. and remember what is important and really means something. my son in law missed his elk hunt because of all this. he was supposed to go with us to colorado after goats too. he said if he misses deer season she's gonna owe him. later, Lark.
