the yellowstone wolf numbers have gotten so high that they are running out of things to eat to the point that they are killing grizzlies and eating them. true story. they have all but wiped out the wildlife in the park. it's sorta funny when one endangered species is eating another one. Lark.

last year our grandaughter got out the hospital, after almost 5 months, 3 days before Christmas. i know how you feel. Merry Christmas. Lark.

the only hope we have is for the azgfd to take an active pro-hunter, pro-joint use stance instead of the anti/treehugger stance they have embarked upon. but i don't see it happening. the department stinks with treehuggers and anti hunters. kill the wolves. did it once and it didn't hurt anything, do it again. only thing that happened was game numbers went up. Lark.

another wolf died. they're droppin' like flies. maybe it's an early Christmas present? http://www.azcentral.com/news/articles/2011/12/09/20111209injured-wolf-dies-way-veterinarian.html there was another article today about how it's hunter's fault that the condors are gettin' lead poisoning. why is that only condors get it? ravens, eagles, crows, redtail hawks, blue jays, etc, all eat animal guts. why don't they get it too? is there something i don't understand? or could it be BS by the condor folks? surely they wouldn't lie. .30-06 vs .270 vs .308: What do you like and why
.270 replied to Airbusdriver's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
yeah, me too. but only .270 shooters truly know what they're doin' anyway. it's a fact. even the ones who don't think they know what they are doin', do, just because they have a .270. so every .30 cal you have has a 1 in 10 twist? and it will shoot anything you want just fine? do you ever go quicker or slower? why does everything i read talk about the need for different twist rates for different bullets? in almost all calibers? i'm gonna hafta ask the guy that made my .300 barrel why he thought it was so important. Lark. -
i've killed big animals in every breed the west offers. but i've had a lot more fun watching my kids or my ol' man shoot forkhorns than i ever did with anything i ever shot. some of the best hunts i've ever been on were pig hunts where i never fired a shot. too many folks get too caught up in who's is biggest and if their's ain't then they make something up. i have a shelf fulla b&c bear and lion heads, a couple pronghorns, a coues or two and maybe a muley or so but never bothered to enter even one. did have one officially scored once, just to make sure i was right. scores are fine. i don't care if it has a + by it. as long as it ain't a BS score like you see so many times. thats when you really see how folks are. sorta like cartman or the spanish basketball team at the special olympics. .30-06 vs .270 vs .308: What do you like and why

educate me then. what twist rate is good for every .30 cal bullet weight? i've seen .308 bullets from 100 grain to 230. i'm sorta sure that there ain't a twist that will shoot em all with pinpoint accuracy. that was what my original comment was about. i have a buncha .30 cal rifles in various twists. they will all shoot real accurate within a fairly specific weight, but if you go out of the boundaries, the bullets fly all over the place. i have an old 721 reminton in '06 that will shoot 150's and 165's real accurate, but if you try to shoot larger bullets, the bigger you go, the bigger the group gets. same if you go down to 125's. only with the lighter bullets, they don't keyhole, like a 220 will. the groups just get horrible and are way off center. when i had the new barrel put on my .300 i told them what bullet i was going to shoot and they made it specifically for that. i can't remember exactly what the twist rate is, but i do remember it has a 1/4 in it. that's pretty specific. it's been my experience, and all i've ever read has said the same thing, a barrel that is twisted for lighter bullets in most calibers, won't stabilize heavier bullets very well. that's why remington changed the name of the .244 to the 6mm. the original .244 had a slower twist and wouldn't shoot 100 grain bullets worth anything and the sales were horrible compared to the .243. so they sped up the twist and called it a 6mm. i have a buncha .22 cal highpowers. .223, .22/250, swifts, etc. none of them will shoot anything heavier than about 60 grains with much accuracy, because they aren't twisted quick enough. i have a .250/3000 savage, a .257 roberts and a .25/06. the .250 and the .257 will keyhole with 117's or bigger but will drive tacks with anything 100 gr's or lighter. the .25/06 will shoot 117's and 125's excellent, but doesn't shoot the lighter bullets real well. the .25/06 has a quicker twist. .264 diameter is another one that won't shoot everything with one twist. twist it right and it'll shoot gnateyes. if it ain't, it won't. i don't know much about all the different rifling styles like polyagonols and all that stuff. in fact i don't know a lot about twist rates, other than some are better than others for different weight bullets. and i do know that the .308 diameter, mainly because of the vast difference of bullet weights available, is one that needs to shoot a bullet that is compatibale to the twist of the barrel. one guy wrote that he thought the .30 cal was better because of the different bullet weights available. i said that you needed to be careful because not all .30 cal bullets will shoot well in all .30 cal barrels. some guy said it was bs. i hafta disagree. the .277 diameter is about the only one i know of that will shoot every available bullet weight with one twist. one reason for that is because they don't make a big range of bullet weights. or didn't. somebody might make something heavier than a 150 now. if they do, then it might need to be sped up a little to stabilize it. the .284 diameter seems to be pretty close too. but with these newer high bc bullets they make, i would asssume you have to twist em different than what was once considered standard. the 7 has the same amount of gas going out a smaller hole. it's going to cause more erosion. as big as the case is, i would imagine the 7 rum will be a real barrel burner. only experience i have with the cartridges in question is with the .300 rum. it's a cannon and shoots a long ways. i killed a deer at 635 and an elk at 740 in the same year with my son's christensen. he shot a bull with it at 855. if i was going to shoot that much powder, it would be in the .300 or .338. you're sorta overpowdered with the 7mm bore and a case that holds 100 grains of powder. Lark.

Only thing wrong with noslers is the price. I really like the partitions. They just cost way too much if you shoot a lot. It's been my experience that premium bullets don't perform enough, if any, better than good bullets to be worth the money. Never hunted big dangerous bears or African stuff. Would probably use something different there. But not for anything within 3000 miles of here. Lark.

Wrong time o year. I heard the reason ya never see em is becaus they don't taste good. But I think anything pickled orta be good. Lark.

I thought the devils did ok considering. Boise is a very good and well coached team. Should have been in a bcs game. Asu ain't real good this year and was very poorly coached in this game. Stupid amount of penalties. Poor plays. Ericson didn't care. Hope the new guy does. What bowl game was who of a in again? Lark. And merry Christmas to all.

i have a couple 39a's. a mountie and the long barreled rifle. can't remember what they even call it. anyway, excellent rifles. absolutely wonderful. but they are real expensive. have a couple henry's too. a .22 and a .22 mag. they both are very good also. been looking for a pump, but can't seem to ever find one. anyway, if you want a good rifle that is reasonable in the price, look at the henry. if you want to spend about 2x as much, the marlin is the best choice. have 2 94/22's also. a mag and LR. it is too bad they don't make them anymore. excellent rifles. Lark.

go to walmart and get a henry. best price i've seen anywhere. Lark.

that's a nice buck dude. Lark.

only drawback with any .30 cal, if it is a drawback, is that they are sorta twist sensitive and you ain't gonna find one twisted that will shoot all of the wide spectrum of bullets available with real good accuracy. if you want to shoot everything from a 110 to a 220 gr it may not happen. i'm real biased, but i'd still pick the .270 over the 3 mentioned. it's the cartridge of Orion and Nimrod and the rest of the hunter gods. Lark.
