and it happened 5 years ago. ricky germvase is just another limey with bad teeth that still looks at the US as the colonies. he wouldn't even have a job if it wernt for Americans watching his stupid crap. i don't think i'd ever shoot a giraffe even if i had the chance. i don't even shoot bears anymoer. but i think anybody that wants to should. foreignors need to shut the he ll up and let AMERICANS be free and then go invest in a toothbrush. years back, probably about 20, the spring hunt started the first or second weekend of april. and went to the end of the month. turkeys strutting every where. it was a wonderful thing. i useta hunt turkeys horseback a lot. unload at the first snowbank and ride around and into the country you couldn't get to yet. it was a gobble fest. really a good time. but the forest circus complained that the turkey hunters were rutting up the roads because they were wet, so the azgfd in their infinite wisdom moved the season back a month. right now the turkeys are going nuts at our place. by the time the season starts there won't be much activity. most of the hens will have been covered and nesting in a couple more weeks. best bet with the season the way it is now is to get way back and listen for gobbles in the early morning and try to make it work out. good luck. Lark.

the bull on greyghost85's back in his avatar is a 19a bull. it went a little north of 400. that's been 4 or 5 years ago. Lark.

i got drood for unit 1. anybody know anything about that unit? where is it? Lark
-
i always use buckshot. 0, 00, #4, whatever. does the job. don't tear things up. they never run off. as far as barrel length, back in the early 80's they did some extensive testing on shotguns that blew the old long barrel=long range myth outta the water. in a 12 gauge with the 2 3/4 and 3 inch stuff that available then, 21 inch was optimum for velocity and range. my old model 1100 special field came with a 21 1/2" full choke. unit 1 late bull. i was sorta joshin' about not knowing anything about u1 . i've hunted that unit a little. drug dozens and dozens o' bulls outta there and 27. thanks for the info tho. i'm hoping to be done here by then and just move up there and set up a camp a couple weeks before the season. Later, Lark.

25-06 ???? Best all around bullet
.270 replied to lionhunter's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
the thing about a rifle like the .25/06 is that there ain't a best bullet. you have to look at the limitations of the round and then stay under that. it's an adiquate elk round with the right bullet, but maybe not the best choice. i wouldn't be afraid of it on elk tho. but it is a hotrod of a deer, coyote, pronghorn, etc round and it has all kindsa possibilities with different bullets. if i was using a .25/06 the last thing i'd do is try to limit myself to one bullet. use the dinky hollowpoints loaded like a rocket on smaller stuff, other bullets for bigger stuff. shootin' is like a buffet, try it all. except the liver. never try the liver. Lark. -
if you don't correct your odometer for the different tire sizes you can't calculate mpg. your truck senses how many revolutions your tire makes but it doesn't know how big the tire is. without fixing it, you're wasting your time trying to figure the mpg. they can ususally do it by tweeking the computer. most everything is electronic these days. if you still have a cable driven speedo, you'll hafta put a different gear on it. (i am talkin' about speedometers here, not some o' your choices in swimwear) Lark.

the problem here ain't that this guy won his little lawsuit. big deal, after his lawyers get their cut he can make a good down payment on a new pickup. what has hunters frustrated is that this guy, along with "OTHER" wardens, knowingly and intentionally, broke the law, a law that even joe hunter knows is there, and are still employed as game wardens. they are still judging folks, still writing tickets, still supposedly upholding the law. i know a guy that got cited because he had his kid's tag and license in his shirt pocket because his kid kept losing it, while they were deer hunting. this is the first law they knowingly and intentionally broke. the azgfd wants everyone to "RESPECT THEIR AUTHORI-TIE" but then they do things like this. and this pales in comparison to their head undercover embezzling 6 figures. what ever happened that? that got covered up real good and real quick. he oughta really be able to get a buncha money out of em. if anything happened it never made the papers. if you're gonna pack a badge, you hafta be dudley do right. if you're not gonna be him, then you should get into a different line o' work. and if you run an organization that has a buncha badge packers, you oughta run it in a fashion that is squeeky clean. in this case, one bad apple makes the rest of the whole barrel stink. like was mentioned earlier in this post, the kid that shot the sparrow had to go to court 5 times. where's the intelligence and leadership in this outfit? quit trying to defend things that are undefensible. Lark.
-
Desert bull, he did win some award for best game warden or some deal. The thing is, he deserved it. As screwed up as he is, he's the best they got. How can the azgfd hope to have credibility when they have guys like this working for em. And what happened to his partners in crime? They broke the law too. Anything punitive happen to them? Lark.
-
So they screwed up the investigation. What about where they got it all correct. Like the kid that shot the sparrow? Is he in prison yet? Where he should be. Lark.

HOA is making us get rid of our pet javelina. heartbreaker, but he's gotta go. 4 year old male. housebroke, likes to swim. will retrieve a little. great little pal to have around. descented. Lark.
-
he useta make a lotta noise when he still drank. he would get drunk and sing and try to tap dance all night. a drunk, singin', tap dancin' javelina is just an ugly sight. got him into rehab awhile back and he's doin' ok on the 6 step deal. he has 4 feet so it only takes 6 steps. you won't believe how hard it is to get a javelina into rehab. gettin' signed up wernt no big deal, with obamacare an' all, anybody can get into rehab. it's just javelinas are hardheaded and he really didn't wanna quit drinkin. he got so gouchy i almost kicked him off the wagon a couple times. then he started chain smokin' and wouldn't take bath. he got to stinkin' so bad that the ol' she bear that was stayin' with us moved out. just as well, she can't cook for nothin'. but in case anybuddy is till wantin' to adopt him, i gotta confess, it was only a April fool's joke. the Rancho Neglect just wouldn't be the same without him. so quit callin! Lark

str8guy, i don't think anybody, i mean except you of course, cares a ho'bunch about anything you think. sorry, that's just the way it is. now, i'm off to beat the little kids to all the easter eggs at the park. Lark.

lay em out flat on a table or something like it. weight down the creases with some books or some other heavy flat object. probably won't matter much if you do it hair or flesh side up. should go back flat after awhile. if the creases persist, wet the hide with water along the creases. use a wet rag. i work leather a lot and getting veg tanned stuff wet doesn't hurt it if you let it dry out good. don't keep it wet. unless it's cracked the creases shouldn't be too hard to remove. Lark.

this photo was going around quite a few years ago. from what i remember it wern't even dead. tranquilized with a dart. see a gun or bow or blood anywhere? and it ain't anywhere near 610. would go well over 400 but not even close to 500. really big elk, lotsa horn, but it's a high fencer so it don't mean a lot other than it's neat to look at. they have captive whitetail that are scoring around 500 now. they are gross looking things. Lark.
-
maybe str8guy oughta work for the azgfd. he seems to have all the answers. in fact, better yet, get on the commission. yeah, that's the ticket. it'd require gettin' outta his folks basement tho. i hope they post it soon, i gotta have this job done sometime and i wanna make sure it is done before whatever hunt i got drood for and i need a date to shoot for. good luck everbody. except str8guy. he's too lucky already, bein' perfect an' all. Lark.

i called and actually got through to a live human. she sounded a little frustrated. anyway, she said that they are in the process of transferring info and to check again next week. i really think that they do this kinda stuff intentionally. if it wasn't intentional, i think they'd do it at a different time of year, instead of now. can anyone remember when it hasn't beena fiasco? last time it worked well was when the convicts at the state pen wear doing it. my "account" says i have no license on record, no bonus points on record and no record of any applications. earlier it showed my bonus points from 2014. i'm goin' backwards. Lark.

why would they go to a new system now? especially now? it sure seems that every year they think of a way to screw things up and hurt the dept's reputation even more. i can't remember a draw that didn't have some sort of major malfunction that caused everyone a buncha grief. every year it's something else. Lark.
