if "science" had anything to do with it we wouldn't have wolf/dogs that have a couple dozen generations on em and still ain't wild. fact of the matter is they're a pain in the @$$, are nothing but detrimental to a desert that is quite fragile at best, have been proven to be very prolific and if you don't take care of the problem, it's only gonna get worse. won't be long and they'll be farther up the river and will be screwing over some of the best desert bighorns in the world. and "science" has proven that one of the worst things on desert wildlife habitat and populations is wild horses and burros. wait'll the folks that brought us cecil get ahold of it. next thing we know they'll be an endangered species, even tho they're crossbred and inbred to hel l and are of no value to anything. shoot em, get it over with. i'll vollunteer to be an equine assassin. i own lotsa horses and mules. i really love mine and care very well for em. unlike the idiots that turned these ones out and like the idiots that wanna "protect" em. if that's too hard for folks to accept, then just shoot the males and let the rest die off. only take a generation or 2 for em to be unwild again that way. Does the 375 Ruger have a place in AZ?
.270 replied to khmer6's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
i just got my .375 h&h back from western precision. i was gonna have a .375 ruger barrel stuck on a pre 64 model 70 action, but i found a .300 h&h model 70 that some dummy reamed out to .300 ackley and had a shilen .375 h&h barrel screwed on it. shoots 270 gr hornadys 2900 fps with no problem. think about that, 270 gr bullet and 2900 fps. factory loads. when i get to reloading it's gonna be amazing what it'll do. and the ruger will do a little better. i plan on hunting deer and elk with mine this year. but i ain't never met a rifle i didn't like, except a 7-08. as far as a use in Az? hel l yeah. Solid copper bullet better performance on larger animals or smaller coues?
.270 replied to apache12's topic in Long Range Shooting
never been on a deer hunt with em, but i refuse to even hunt with anyone that uses copper bullets for elk. biggest farce i've ever seen. some even with a .338/.378, direct lung shots, barely missed the heart, one bull ran over half a mile, over a big knoll and off into the jack pines. had to track it with lanterns. another was hit 2 times in the lungs, good shots, with the same rifle. only way we caught up with it is he hit it in a front and hind leg and busted the joints too. i think it would have gotten away if he didn't hit the legs. still made it a half mile into the trees. another horrible recovery job. every elk i've ever seen shot with a copper bullet ran off. with big rifles too. and any one of them wouldn't have made it 100 yds with a .243 and lead bullets. a couple years ago i was with 4 guys, 3 used barnes, one guy used winchester silvertips. all shot good 6x6's. all 3 with barnes ran off, with good lung shots. had to be tracked down, with a lotta effort. the one with silvertips made it maybe 50 yards. i hear people talk em up, but i've had nothing but bad experiences with em. 3 or 4 guys with good rifles and few boxes of ammo could take care of things quickly. hot as it is, they'd be gone quick too. too bad they are there, ain't there fault, but they ain't doing anyone any good and they really cause problems. and they aren't "wild" mustangs. they're feral horses that have been turned out by folks that had no business having a horse to start with. the bleeding heart crap just makes the problem worse. shoot em, get it over with. the wild horse and burro program is a farce. if they get involved then there never will be a real sollution. Lark.

with midget deer the bullet doesn't matter as much as where you hit em. any bullet will rip right through one. with their small vitals, they always seem hard to kill to me. Lark.

looks like a compound to me too. bill, i mentioned your name because i figgerd you'd have more experience with this stuff than anyone. i bet he wishes he'd o' stayed home puttin' in fillings instead of spending a buncha money trying to show off. if he woulda donated all that money to a good charity he'd be money ahead. doesn't matter if he's as pure and innocent as the driven snow, this is gonna cost him more than he can afford. sounds like his business is dead. big picture fellers, always look at the big picture. whenever joe blow gets busted for a wildlife crime, nobody ever hears about it. they're annonymous folks like the rest of us. when some rich guy gets busted, this is what happens. and we all get drug in the mud with em. glad i ain't in his shoes. Lark.

this guy stepped on his crank and he's gonna get crucified over it. whatever. you go to a continent where folks are starving, and take a suit case fulla money with you and you can do anything you want. he shot a collared cat that was watched closely by folks with authority, and probably bleeding hearts too. look at the guy that shot the big elk in the subdivision in show low? how smart was that? he had a big time guide and everything. pissed off the neighborhood for shooting their pet and he got hammered. he can play dumb and cry all he wants about his ph and everyone else, he was there and he knew better. hel l there are photos of him with the dead lion. he didn't see the collar then? i've read for years that there are only 2 kindsa lions left in africa, the ones raised in captivity and realeased for some rich guy to shoot, and the ones in parks. some friends went to africa a few years ago and the ph had a buncha lions in a big enclosures. had one giant with a spectacular mane. he had every female he owned in with him to get em bred because a guy was flying in and gonna pay a 100grand to shoot it in a few days. guys like bill that actually shot a wild, eat your face off lion back in the day are real lucky. them days is gone. if you're gonna hunt, hunt. i really don't care one way or the other what happens to the guy, other than the stain that huggers try to put on all hunters over it. spending a lotta money doesn't make something acceptable. and this guy didn't spend all that cash in order to benefit conservation. he did it to show how cool he is and brag to his buddies. that's why they have all the photos of it that he posted online. the thing that bugs me worse than all this crap is that the media says nothing about selling dead baby parts but they are all over this like a fat drunk at the strip club. my dog eats whatever we eat, at the table with us. has his own chair an' everthing. then when we're done he wanders around on the table and licks all the plates clean enough that you can just put em back in the cupboard ready for next time. he really likes pancakes with prickly pear syrup and biscuits and gravy. Lark.

if you know a little about saguaro and where they grow and don't grow, you might be able to figure this place out. or maybe you've just been there. pretty neat place, filled with indian ruins, cliffs and some of the neatest desert riparian country in the southwest. lots of claret cup cactus flowers in the spring. prettiest red color there is. Lark.

that's probly cuz it was filmed at old tucson or apacheland. you always see tumbleweeds in westerns too. but they didn't arrive here from russia until sometime after the civil war. or old west soldiers in the 70's and 80's using '92 and '94 winchesters.. they never used a winchester until the '95 and the '92 and '94 weren't even around until 92 and 94. but, what are you gonna do. a guy hasta watch westerns. go visit Markham creek. take all day. quite a place. Lark.

nope, nope, nope, nope. ok it's called Markham creek. or wash or canyon. about due north of pima on the north side of the gila. the right hand canyon get it's runoff from slaughter mt, the lefthand canyon starts up by the cabin on the mcuen's 99 ranch. it's a kind of a little known place that you should visit sometime. this photo was in a real wet spring about 3 years ago. the reason i kept emphasizing saguaros is because it is the eastern most stand. there aren't any east of this canyon. many indian caves. several active blackhawk nests. eagles nests. if you know where they are and don't mind a little walk, there are at least 3 places that have live water, always. lots of frogs and some kind of minnow. i've killed muleys, lions, pigs, coatis, quail, coyotes, foxes, bobcats, all kindsa stuff in that area. there are also elk, whitetail, bears, bighorn, and an occasional turkey. there is a real substantial natural bridge. lots of shear cliffs hundreds of feet tall. stinkin' grave robbers have pilferd a lot of the caves. there is one that had a mud oven built in it. the whole thing was still there. hiked up to it awhile back and stinkin' grave robbers had destroyed it with picks. dug up the whole floor. there are a couple giant caves. some that have been dug by universities. probably a bunch that ain't even been found. it's quite a desert riparian area that shows what a little water can do. Lark

nope. wrong side of the river. Lark.
-
nope. i figgerd somebody woulda guessed it by now. it's quite a destination, especially in a wet spring when the cactus and poppies are showing off. lots of sycamores, ash, willows, cottonwoods. some absolutely gigantic black walnuts. several places that always, even in the driest of years, have live water. it's own kinda fish. c'mon, somebody knows the name. Lark.
