So you wanna change the argument? You go find chamber specs if you want. The cartridges are exactly the same and that's all there is to it. You can argue with yourself if you want. This one is over and you are wrong. Period. Lark.

show me a difference. first one is the official case dimensions for the .556. second is the .223. the last comments are what the international folks say about it. again, the cartidges are exactly the same. difference is rifle twist, throat and leade. some manufacturers have different barrel face designs for better full auto and semi auto cycling. again, the cases are "exactly" the same. if you have a .556 lock up your .223 it's because the bullet is too long and it's in the lands causing too much pressure. and again, as in my first comment, any .223 load will work in a barrel marked .556. Lark. According to the official Commission Internationale Permanente pour l'Epreuve des Armes à Feu Portatives (C.I.P.) guidelines the .223 Remington case can handle up to 430 MPa (62,366 psi) piezo pressure.[6] In C.I.P. regulated countries every rifle cartridge combo has to be proofed at 125% of this maximum C.I.P. pressure to certify for sale to consumers. This is equal to the NATO maximum service pressure guideline for the 5.56×45mm NATO cartridge. The SAAMI pressure limit for the .223 Remington is set at 379.212 MPa (55,000 psi), piezo pressure.[7] The dimensional specifications of 5.56 NATO and .223 Remington commercial brass cases are identical. The cases tend to have similar case capacity when measured, with variations chiefly due to brand, not 5.56 vs .223 designation. The result of this is that there is no such thing as "5.56 brass" or ".223 brass", the differences in the cartridges lie in pressure ratings and in chamber leade length, not in the shape or thickness of the brass.[11][12]

I've loaded both for over 40 years. Same set of dies. Just finished loading 2000 for both. Same dies. The .223 rem and .556 nato cartridge are exactly the same. And any .223 will shoot fine out of anything marked .556. Military .556 May have a long bullet that will be in the lands in a .223 and cause higher pressure, but there has never been anything definitive agreed on. The .223 and .556 shoot cartridges with the exact same dimensions. Chambers may vary for longer bullets and to cycle full and semi auto. Lark.

Only difference between a .556 and a .223 is barrel twist. Cartridge is exactly the same specs. .556 nato has a faster twist to stabilize longer bullets. Any .223 bullet of any weight will shoot fine out of a .556. .556 weight bullets may not stabilize well out of a .223. Still shoots, just don't group well. Lark.

Is a calibrated scope necessary? Binos? Rangefinder? Stainless rifle? Any scope? Compound bow? If you're rifle hunting the only things necessary are a rifle, ammo and a knife. If you're bow hunting then a bow, arrows and a knife. Lotsa stuff is nice to have. Few things are necessary. The most essential thing is the nuts to bail off into rough country and hunt. With dark clothes you can always look like a shadow. If you get caught moving, it doesn't matter what you have on. You're busted. Being sneaky, knowing how to use wind, and backbone is really all it takes. They're necessary. Lark.

i don't care for it. but i hunt a lotta states and most other places it's required. it has a place. but so does not being a stupid idiot and spending a few seconds verifying your target. first time i elk hunted in colorado was the general rifle combat season about 40 years ago. i didn't like wearing blaze and had on the minimum hat and cheap vest. as the the sun came up and the shootin' started i kinda wondered if i had enough on! some years back i shot a big ol' bull off in a ugly canyon in 27. as me and the guy i was with were looking at it, i asked if he brought a frying pan? he said hel l no, why? i said i saw a salt lick in a saddle above us. if he had a frying pan we'd just camp out there a couple days and eat this thing instead o' packin' it out. but he didn't have one, so we skunt it and hung it up and went back with horses the next day. c,mon guys, he's rich. that means underage hookers and kiddy porn is ok. plus all the stuff nobody knows about. rich guys are better than everbody else and deserve to be able to do things that are wrong because of how they contribute in other ways. i read how he is trying to plead it down to only 5 years in prison. guess what he did carries a possibility of a lot more. what an idiot. guy make millions by losing weight and inspires a lotta folks and has to go and do this kinda stupidity. wonder if his few years of fame are worth what he's gonna hafta endure from now on? Lark.

if it's a hunting rifle that you plan on packing long distance, why not go to a skinnier barrel? they still shoot a one shot group real well? i don't understand the heavy barrel deal for hunting rifles. or another way to go is carbon fiber. Christensen or proof make some neat stuff and they are extremely light and accurate. kinda spendy, but any really good barrel is. anyway, to each his own, but i don't understand the big fat barrel on a hunting rifle. target rifles, sure. Lark.

bill, i almost said the same thing yesterday. i see remington chambers a rifle in the .350 mag again. but i still like a .264 over all the short 6.5's. it's a true hotrod. lark.

Does the 375 Ruger have a place in AZ?

i remember when that was a long ways for ordinary guys. i usually shoot a .270 and am probably the best shot in the world, so distance has never been an obstacle. just depends on how far i feel like packin' one out. one of the reasons i thought i'd shoot a .375 this year is because i got a little soft on this job and i don't feel like walking so far to pack em out. my grandad told me once that i shot stuff so far away that i had to salt my bullets, in order to keep em from spoilin' before i got to it. up until about 5 years ago i shot with my rifle over my shoulder, using a mirror to look at the sights. on running game anyway. if it was standing i'd shot the same way, but left handed. good luck. that part o' the state is horrible for cell service. i think in nutri you still hafta crank the ringer a few times and tell the operator to hook ya up to ernie or fred or whoever else ya wanna talk to. Lark.

one of the smartest things ruger did in developing it was using a case with the same rim size as the belted cases. don't have to do any bolt work to get it to fit. either .375 ain't a real good long range gun, but look to be better than good to 400 and not bad at 500 and when they get there they're bringin an @$$ whoopin' with em. i'm really excited about using the h&h this year. Lark. -
as in hunting for anything, the earlier the better. but don't quit because it gets warm bears tend to eat a bunch, take a nap, take big greasy dump and feed again, then repeat. several times a day. could catch one feeding anytime. check out the oaks and junipers too. they love acorns and juniper berries. Lark.

i think i want everbody to call me your highness from now on. you buncha inbred, webfooted banjo plunkers got that? from now it's "YOUR HIGHNESS, SIR"! Lark.

every year you can find herds that are rutting hard into december. not just whistling and making noise, rutting. 2 years ago in u1 there were some buches that acted like it was the first of october. really big bulls with big herds, lots of satelites and lots of cows. really heavy activity. every year is a little different, but until the cows get covered or until the way of the year decides they'll quit estrus, they will rut. usually by mid november you don't see much activity and the really big bulls are batched up and getting away from all that nonsense. but there are exceptions. if you have a late bull tag and want a really big bull, get off in the canyons where they've gone to get away. i wouldn't worry much about the rut bothering you. it's always a good thing when the bulls tell you where they are. Lark.

the main problem i have with all of this is HB2072. anybody remember that fiasco? take 350 of the best tags Az has and basically alocate them to rich guys that had the money to buy em. with no bag limit. buy as many tags as you could buy and shoot as many animals as you could have your toadys find for you. last i remembered the guys leading the charge vowed to bring it back someday. they even got an audience with the governor after weiers chickened out on sponsoring. and it was all under the guise of "conservation" and "economics". wildlife belongs to everyone, whether you hunt or not, everyone should have the same opportunity to it. this was an attempt to turn Az into the european model of hunting. only the rich get to do it. ask utah how it worked for them? the same folks that are buying up these special tags and their toadys are the same people that were funding the push for HB2072. be vigilant, because they will try it again. Lark.

so you call everyone reading this thread a buncha names and derogatory stuff, but you're the tolerant one? i'm really cornfused now. at least that's what i got from reading every other line. i guess tolerance has different definitions to some folks. again, the amount contributed to the pot by auction tags is a very small % of what it takes to run this state. you can use your "conservation" argument all you want, but it contributes very little overall. auction were dreamed up by rich guys as a way for rich guys to get preference over joe hunter. plain and simple. lotsa things are that way. just the way it is. but it doesn't mean folks can't have a contrary opinion. and i never read where one person said anything derogatory about even one outfitter on this thread. some folks shared their opinions. some folks got butt hurt over it. whoopeee. mr pot, meet mr kettle. i could go on and on about some of the outfitters in this state, with true facts, but who cares? i'm just one guy. other folks have other stories too. talking down to the rank and file joe hunters ain't a way to win any friends. and don't think you're gonna flame up everyone and a couple hours later act l ike you're misunderstood. it just looks bad. Lark.

i've called in quite a few over the years. all on lbind calls, all with a circe magnum jackrabbit. but that's all i use for anything. i think with bears it's more about where you are than what you use. get on the edge of a big canyon where the sound can carry a long ways, if you're calling blind. if you see one and sneak in close, about anything oughta work. Lark.
