Dove Breast Bacon Wrapped Jalapeño Poppers
.270 replied to rossislider's topic in Cooking Wild Foods
i can't abide by dove. if you wrapped javelina crap in all that stuff it would probly taste ok. when you hafta put all that stuff on something just to make it gaggable, you need to look for some different kinda meat. like wolf or condor or spotted owl or black footed ferret. dang, if you guys ever et good stuff you'd go ape $@!%. and quit ruinin' bacon. it just ain't right. I for one, am very happy to know that the biggest typical, actually the 2 biggest, and the biggest non typical were taken by joe hunters that were just hunting. Out in the country with a rifle trying to fill a tag. Enjoying the outdoors, just to enjoy the outdoors. Couldn't care less about books or websites or any other ways to show off. There ain't even any pictures of em, with or without water marks or photoshopped hats. Guy killed a big buck. Ok. So have lotsa other guys. I shot a 90 incher last year. I'm still tickled about it. Took it to my little cabin in the canyon, me and my wife skunt if and we ate it. When it becomes all about the hunter, which it seems to be with most folks, then things are headed in the wrong direction. Lark.

Fine job. Excellent bull. Lark.

The rut will happen. The fire has kinda weirded things up in 27. Hunt wallows for a few days. The last 4 days of archery season are the best anyway. Need too get outta camp around 2 am and listen. Then be moved in with the herd before first light. Lark.

700's have been notorious over the years for having big differences in the throat length. some are real short, some are kinda long. also, a 175 gr bullet in 7mm is real long. might be a twist deal. might be right on the edge of what your barrel will stabilize. a 139 out of a 7 mag oughta kill anything around here real good. you don't hear a lot about it, but the 7 mag is real hard on throats. real hard. you could have some erosion starting in the first part of the rifles. anytime you have that much powder burning down a skinny little hole, you can burn up the lands real easy. Lark.

good sized bear for sure. also, it's a knowed fact that bears like to rest up awhile before they eat folks. you're lucky he didn't eat ya. you shoulda got some photos of you pettin' him. Lark.

that is funny there. unethical, but funny. Lark.

i always take out the bolt and look down the barrel. usually gets you real close. even worked on my .375 the other day. at 100 yards you can see big circle with that big ol' bore. took 6 shots to hit the bull dead center. Lark

now that is just unethical!! dang, i'd get another herny tryin' to get that in there like that. Lark.

so i read every post. not one person here knows this guy or knows his story, but the ethics police wanna rag all over him. a couple questions-1- where else is he gonna put it? b- how do ya know the meat is spoiled? maybe he just killed it. and 3- if it was in the back of a pickup, wouldn't you still see the same thing? give the guy a break. besides, i don't think anybody here wants to give a guy strong enough to rassle that thing up there a hard time. sometimes neccessity takes precedence over decorum. Crying about wolves again

ooooh, and it was named echo.............how sweet. anytime they start naming wild animals you've got problems. anyone with any sense know the endangered species folks, usfw, center for biologic perversity, etc are all just high paid clowns that lie for a living anyway. simply a crime they have so much authority and the ear of every lib in dc. bill, a friend of mine showed me video of a herd of camels by portal a few years ago. said they were walking down the road. one came up and stuck it's head in the window and slobbered all over him and the steering wheel and then tried to bite the mirror off his truck. don't know what the deal was there, but he had video proof. seems like one of em had a halter on it tho, so probly got loose from someone. Lark. ps-maybe they will clone some neanderthals so casey won't feel so alone. -
gut, skin, hang it in the shade, cut up as needed, get it in an ice chest as needed. it's real simple, get the heat out of it asap. especially elk. elk sour in the shoulders where the neck and shoulders meet, real fast. if you have a saw, split it. it you don't, cut off the neck (the neck is excellent meat, don't toss it), front legs, remove backstrap, cut the sirloin tips away from the back legs. meat is real forgiving if you ain't stupid. just take good care of it. and never wrap it in plastic of any kind. plastic makes heat. Lark.

he said tomfoolery, haven't heard that term since i was a youngster. oh well, be glad you killed bulls big enough that others wanna take credit for it. and those are great bulls. this is another example of what the $$$$ factor does to hunting. Lark.

or if you want to get really cheap, you can learn how to sharpen a knife and just do it the old fashioned way. well, not the real old fashioned way like bill. he uses a piece of obsidian that his grampa chipped out for him. i've used havalon and outdoor edge. they're ok but i don't like how they cut through the skin so easy and how quick they lose their edge. i can skin a lot quicker with a good knife than one of these new razor blade deals. Lark.
