there's a lot to putting a barrel on. generaly the chamber is reamed after the barrel is installed, and there is a sequence that you have to go through with go-no go gauges to get the chamber depth correct. Lark.

remember guys, "WE" can't have an opinion. it's the rules. and that is one heckuva bull. i'm happy to see a true giant of a bull that ain't in the velvet, shot in august, by some softy with a jet. this bull dwarfs anything any gov tag bull shot this year. and he got it with a bow during a hunt anybody can apply for. Lark. maroon-ain't you guys ever watched bugs bunny? sheesh what a buncha maroons.........

Drive up water canyon road toward big lake about 3 am. Stop ever once in awhile and Listen for whistles and go from there. Maybe try the old boneyard road too. Anywhere around the big meadows. They'll be out in them at night. Good luck. Lark.

Farkiller, my .300, will shoot one hole at 100, 1/2" at 200 and right at an inch at 300. i killed an elk at 910 yards with it a few years ago. factory wood stock, a little trigger work, a schnieder barrel and leupold varixIII 6.5x20 with a turret. a model 70 is as accurate as any and the action function is superior to all as far as i'm concerned. the 700's have a nice round action that is easy to chuck up, but that's about where the good part of em ends. you have to change the trigger, most competent smiths will add a claw extractor, etc. and you still don't have controlled round feed or a hammer safety when you're done. it all depends on what a guy wants. i usually hunt way different than most folks anhymore, and a model 70 works best for me. i own remingtons and rugers. 77's, 700's, 788's, 600's. all work ok but they also have little deficiencies i don't like. same as the savages and tikkas, rugers, etc. ruger advertises a model 70 "style" safety. one of the biggest lies ever told. they moved it to where it is in the same area as a model 70, but it is still just a trigger safety. it isn't on the bolt and doesn't block the hammer like a 70. still a decent rifle. but has no advantage over one with a tang safety. my son has a savage .338 lapua that shoots amazingly well. other son has a christensen 300 rum with a 700 action. great rifle. i killed a buck and a bull with it a couple years ago. deer was almost 700 yds and the bull was over 800. model 70's are real expensive compared to others. montana and kimber make action that are very similar to a 70, and they are real expensive. i'd really like to have a montana. just depends on what a guy wants and how he hunts. i never met a gun i didn't like. except 7mm08's. Lark.

A competent gunsmith can do anything you want on any action you want. It's just a matter of $. They all have their preferences. Finding that competent guy that will do what you want to do is the trick. Most smiths like 700's because they are easier to chuck up in a lathe. Not because they are superior. Just about action can be made accurate on a bench. How they perform in the field and personal preference is where they differ. Lark

G$& d@$&it. How f'in' sick are these jackasses? That's as bad as the slopes eatin em. Saw a video an old creepy hag taking a dog and hanging it and while it was choking she took one of those pump up gasoline blow torches and burned all the hair off it. It was still kicking when she started scraping the hair off. I wanted to kill her. lark

I have multiples on pre 64 model 70 actions. Don't really need any "components" with them. Already have a trigger that can't be improved on, screw on a new barrel and bed the action. Kinda hard to find the magum actions with the cut out top straps. Anything standard length or shorter works very well. And they are incredibly strong and accurate. Lark.

best place to procure for custom build
.270 replied to Green Bullet's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Why didn't he just say he wanted his wife to get him a new gun? If you're really serious, call up western precision and have em build you one. Most impressive long shooters I've ever seen. Incredibly accurate. Spensive tho. Lark. -
just get a .270. don't matter what kind or scope or even if you have a scope. the bullets are divinely guided and as long as you are in tune with the spirit of Orion and Nimrod, they always hit where you shot at. Lark.

what does procure mean? Lark -
before the fire elk could be 100 yards from the road and not have a clue you were around. now they can see a mile or more through the dead trees and i imagine if they see a truck they might shut up. the fire has changed things a lot. Lark.

it's hawd to take "countryboy" se'iously wid dat n'yok excent. do you wahk or do you hev a fahwheeluh when you hunt? and you misspelled 30-30. it's thoity thoity. and ithaca is ithucker and mossburg is massboig and marlin is mawlin. just messin' with ya. i mean wivya. hope you shoot a big one. Lark.

What do ya mean "if" they choose to? Take em huntin. Don't give em the choice. When they get older they can decide if they wanna keep goin'. Like trainin' elephants. Start when they're little. Lark.

so do you use zip guns and tire irons and switchblades and stuff or can you use real guns? i thought everything, including sodas with sugar in em, was illegal in n'yok? Lark.

full moon means nothing, it's the season and that's when you need to hunt. the deer don't disappear or go in a hole because it's a full moon. but if you can only hunt one part of the season, then the last week is gonna be the best option. Lark

there is always one morning every year about this time that you can tell the seasons changed. might not even be any colder, it just feels different. if you've been in that neck o' the woods much and pay attention, you know when it happens. talked to a good friend up there this morning. he said that day was yesterday, and today felt right too. hang on, things are gonna get exciting. even if the weather stays warm, the cows still get in cycle. all the stuff about first frost and this and that is just folks blowin' gas. elk are gonna breed every year. i don't care if it doesn't freeze until november, they're gonna breed. when you are archery elk hunting you hafta hunt 24-7. you can't wait until 5 and get up, if you ain't in the middle of it by 3 or 4, you're missing the best part o' the day. you should be in em and be decided on what bunch you are gonna chase by 3 am at the latest. move slow in the darkest part of the dark, look and listen, watch em in the open with your binos, pay attention to the wind as you can and move with em. sometime you might just roll up by a log and take a nap if they are just running around in one place. but be ready to move when you have to. you can sleep when the season is over. it ain't a cake walk. it's hard work on the best day. good luck. Lark.
