Skunk Devils?!?! That is totally uncalled for, border trash. Go skunk Devils. Is u of a gonna boycott the rose bowl again next year? I love these kinda posts. Lark
  3. I agree. I am an expert on about everthing. The things I ain't an expert on ain't worth knowin', anyway. Lark
  4. "Minute of deer" is one of my absolute favorite quotes. Purty much splains it all to a hunter. Lark

    What kinda wood? Lark
  7. Hahahaha. I get it now. You were joking. I missed it. I usually pick right up on folks joshin'. But now tell me, mmmac (do you stutter?), why "DO" you need to prove your mental superiority? I've always been a c- guy so I don't understand the concept. I can say one thing about .308, whenever I have a question about balistics that I don't know, I ax him. Then I know I have the right answer. Lark
  8. Oh well. I don't hafta prove anything to anyone. 'Specially not you. Been reloading over 50 years. Done an' lurnt me a few thangs. I know this much about sectional density. It must mean somethin' er nobuddy'd care. Run along now. Run along. Lark
  9. The pressure is just part of the problem. Every time I've ever been with anyone using copper bullets it has turned into a tracking job. Every time. No exceptions. With well placed shots from enormous rifles. In fact, I won't allow em around me. My load development program consists of using a bullet I know from experience will work, every time. Tinker a little until it shoots good groups, chronograph it and use it. Couldn't care less about all the numbers on paper. Seems to work fairly decent. You can do all the fancy calculating and stuff you want. None of it means much but on paper or targets. The biggest factor in everything is the guy holding the rifle. If he can hunt and then shoot when he finds what he's after is what matters. Lark

  11. All that stuff is worthless to me. Gives me a headache. Except velocity. I like velocity. Barnes bullets also have a bunch more barrel drag, because they are considerably longer than a like weight copper/lead bullet. Causes pressure to go way up. I tried some once in my .270. Had to load em 400 fps slower than a like weight regular bullet to keep from blowing primers because of the extra bullet length in the lands. Said right on the box to load em at least .040" off the lands to keep pressures down. They've improved em some with some design changes. Still hard to get a lot out of em. All that stuff, bc, sd, fps, gfy, means something but it's too hard to remember. Lark

Great job Brian. How you been? Lark
  14. I never knew if it was a trigger problem or a bolt problem. If it's a trigger problem looks like a timney would fix it. From what I remember they all had the potential to fire when you closed the bolt. My kids killed a semi load of deer and pigs my .243 with never a problem. But I'd never let em chamber a round until they were ready to shoot. Let us know how your loads work out. Rcbs oughta have dies for it. Lark.
  15. Sharp rifle. Leupold used to make a 3x9 compact that fit real well on em. I'd still shoot 100's or 120's if it was mine. One word of caution. The 600 trigger, which a 660 has, had real serious accidents and more than one guy got killed because they just went off. The 700 has the same reputation. The story was that rem quit making em because of the trigger problems. You oughta research it some and be sure your is ok. I know at one time there was a recall. Seems like they added a digit to the serial number or some deal to note the ones they fixed. I've had a 600 for over 35 years with no problem. Anyway, check yours out. Google it to see what the deal was. Good luck. Lark
  16. I've only seen a couple 6.5 mags and they were 18.5". Might have been 600's too. A 20" barrel would be some better. Maybe 100 fps. Lark.
  17. An '06 does have much greater potential than a .308. Like a .300 mag has a lot more potential than an'06. More powder, more options. I use my .264 as a hotrod. Period. Shoot nothing but 100 gr soft points at 3700 fps. It is an incredible deer and pronghorn rifle. Even at long ranges. Longest shot on a deer was just under 600. If I had this 660, and I'd love to own it, I'd use it the same way. I'd shoot 100's or maybe 120's as fast as it can. Put a good, minimally sized 3x9 on it. With its small size it'd make one heck of a horseback rifle. Metau has acquired one cool rifle and if he uses it within the limits of the rifle it'll work real well. Ballistically it should compare to a 6.5x.284. The short barrel, 1:9 twist and short magazine keep it in a box as far as performance. But even with those limits, it'll kill the heck outta things. Bipods

Caseys friends call him bipod. Lark
  19. You can do that in the 700. Let's you use the full potential of the round. The 600 action and short barrel limits it a bunch. I shoot a .264 win mag a bunch. It's just like a 6.5 mag, only a lot better. . In the 600 if he stays with 129's or less, it should be a great gun. With all that powder in a little rifle like that, it's gonna kick. Lark
  20. They have an 18" or 18 1/2" barrel. Another reason it's hard to achieve its optimum. They did make a few 6.5 mag 700's with 24" barrels. Lot better way to go if you want to get much out of it. The 6.5 and 350 mag both really pushed the limits of the 600 action. The .350 has a better potential because the large diameter bullets are short enough that they don't affect powder capacity so much. 6.5 is plenty ok, just hafta stay inside the limits of the 600 action. Lark
  21. Where you guys been? Since the azgfd helped outlaw trapping the coyote population has took of like a rocket. It was high to start with. Everyone should make as many attempts as they can to reduce the herd. Good sport too. Lark.

    Travel For the Holidays

I'm gonna do a buncha travellin' from my recliner to the kitchen and back. Prime rib, ham, pies, taters, chocolate, cakes, gravy, bread, prime rib. Can't wait. Lark
  23. 6.5 rems were twisted 1:9. The only factory load rem ever made was a 120 I think. The 140's have to be seated so deep because of the short magazine that powder capacity is really hurt and performance is quite poor. Another thing thing to remember about bergers is that most of the weight is toward the back, making them extra long for their weight. A 1:9 May not stabilize a 140 berger but may stabilize a conventional designed bullet. They are a great little rifle but you have to load em to match the gun. I'd stick with 100-120 gr bullets. They can be quite a hotrod and work real well for most things. The magazine length and 1:9 twist kinda handcuffs em for some stuff tho. Does it have the laminated stock? Lark

Looking to buy some .22LR for Xmas ...

Yeah and the park service, irs, dot and the rest o' the etc's. They never fire a shot, but king hussein is gettin' em ready. There'd be a bunch more ammo available if they'd lay off their agenda. This deal about no 22's is stupid. Lark
