there are a couple photos of my kids on here, but not me. i'm such a fox that my wife doesn't like pictures of me gettin' around. she's had to shoot a couple wimmin already. it's a curse. wish i'da been born rich instead o' so good lookin'. and i got no problem with guys parked in trees. just ain't for me. plus, most o' the places i hunt ain't got nothin' bigger than a ocotillo anyway. does griz read this website? let me rephrase that, does griz have someone read this website to him? sure hope so. i still don't see how interstate commerce takes precedence over wildlife management and sound biological data. i know one thing, i've never seen virtually everyone in this state agree on any one thing. i've yet to hear a resident say they like this. be interesting to see what the long term consequences are for all involved. real interested in what the final solution is going to be and how far it tilts toward nonresidents. just hope that before it's over that permits aren't all auctioned off to the highest bidder. if it's interstate commerce that's driving this, then that looks like what would happen. looks like a sharp attorney could figure out a way. i don't like this. and ya never find any arrowheads or old mule shoes from a tree stand either. ethics is a word that gets thrown around too much. if it's legal, it's ethical. people will protest about hunting and the death penalty and then go to a pro-abortion rally. it's all opinions. in my opinion, i'd rather tromp around and spook em up so's i can use my finely tuned and razor honed shooting skills on running game. plus, i've never seen a stand with a place for my horse. it should do better than 8" at 100 yards. not using a scope might be part of it. i know i can't hit worth a darn with iron sights anymore. i've never used powerbelts and the guys i know that have, didn't like them. could never get them to hit the same place all the time. that why i've always stuck with the xtp's and a plastic sabot. they've always worked well in everything i've had. from my old .50 cal T/C hawken to my new inline. they've always been real accurate and have always performed well on game. they punch right through everything i've ever shot. seem to mushroom real well and hit real hard. hey, i never said unethical. i said lazy. yeah, yeah i know. it's a negative connotation. but i really feel that sitting in a treestand over a food pile is a little different than what i was raised to believe was hunting. a stand over water or a well used trail or a natural saltlick, or even waiting on a meadow for animals to come feed in the evening is different to me, because it is a naturally occuring thing. it's as basic as it gets. been done for centuries. something that has been produced elsewhere and then packed into the field to bait in an animal just doesn't seem like something that i'd like to do. especially putting things out that enhance antler and body growth. we ain't farmers. how can a buck with genetically enchanced antlers be allowed in a record book? don't seem right to me, but it happens all the time. just another reason to dislike record books, too. but that's a different subject. a guy misses too much in a stand. there's a big ol' world out there and i wanna see as much of it as i can. and sitting in a stand doesn't offer me that. get on a track and see where it takes me. that what i like. i've tinkered with bear baiting, when it was legal, but never had the patience to sit there long enough. plus it always seems like some other lazy joker like me would put another bait up about 50 yards away. i've always loved to hunt with hounds too, and some folks have a disdain for that. hunting methods are like opinions and opinions are like armpits. everyone has at least 2 of em and all of em but mine stink.

finally, someone with a real rifle. i have a special load for my .270 that jams up most other actions. so i won't list it. i shoot a 140 gr. hornady boattail with a bunch of h4350 behind it. i'm going to tinker with a new load for my youngest son just for coues. will load either 90, 100 or 110 gr bullets as hot as i can and see what it does. it should be real adequate for stubby little whitetails. for the most part, a 130 gr bullet does real well out of a .270. if you handload, you can do some neat stuff with it. main thing to pay attention to is overall cartridge length for your gun. some rifles are real short throated and won't take ammo well that will shoot out of a rifle with a longer throat. if you're going to use factory ammo, look at the hornady "light magnums" in 130 gr. don't know if they make them in 110 or not, but that would be interesting too. main thing if you're shooting a long ways is to practice. i ain't afraid to shoot 400 yards or more with my .270, but then again, i'm a heck of a shot. out to 400, i usually do the over the shoulder with the mirror deal. after that, especially if they're running, i'll shoot more conventional, like hold it in both hands. if you practice and know your rifle, a 400 yard shot with a .270 isn't unreasonable. to me, bait = lazy. get out and hunt. learn about the wildlife. see the country. enjoy the experience. i see these losers on the hunting shows sitting in a stand, reading a romance novel or playing a video game and it really turns me off. a stand on a trail or a wallow or waterhole is a completely different thing. have no problem with that. sitting over bait is something that i just don't understand. i can see how anti's associate all hunters with slobs. wear out your boots. scratch up your rifle. learn to use the wind. learn to track. it's a great life. shooting something eating out of a can is a real waste of everything.

i agree. someone wrote it for him. he ain't smart enough to string that many sentences together. i sincerely hope this guy and me never cross paths again. what a maroon. i also sincerely hope that the boycott continues and that uso goes broke. this deal with the ranchers and their letter to shroufe is just a continuation of this whole process. taulman, griz or any of the rest of uso's guides aren't talented enough to consistently drag big bulls out of Az. you have to get more than a mile or so from the road and you can't get out of shape dudes into that kind of country without livestock. and the only way they will be able to is to get guranteed permits on private land. uso is interested in quanity. quality never enters into their plan. in my opinion, the letter to game and fish said a lot without saying much. the owners of these big private land tracts don't want to open the land up. they want elk permits for what they say is damage done to the range by elk competing with cattle. the don't neccessarily want to open their land up to the public. they want elk permits for compensation and then they want to be able to use them behind a locked gate. the more i think about this whole situation, the sicker and madder i get. greedy people and lawyers. and the dummys that spend their money with outfits like this, thinking they're getting a good deal. it will be the death of joe hunter. Lark .
