    Fog

Run up the trail this morning. Broke outta the fog at rose peak. Fog bank ran from the Gila wilderness in the east, couldn't see the end to the north, to mt graham in the south. Cool to see all the peaks floating in the clouds. Never seen it cover so much country. Took this photo from by blue vista. The peak on the right is rose, on the left is red mt. Lark
  2. The guides do their share of roasting too. Or get their toadys to do it for em. Amazing how many guys wanna pack water. But I want to hear at least one opinion from one guide about this. So far, nothing. I'm kinda wondering if maybe it's a silent way of condoning? That and most of these guys are all pals and don't want to badmouth their pal in print. This entire thing stinks. Chaddy boy actually feels that what he did was ok, simply because he is backed by rich guys. First he said they were rounding up cattle. Outside their fence? That's called rustlin'. It's also very expensive and not at all cost effective in easy country like that. Then he said he didn't know the pilot. When they hit him between the eyes with a photo of him and the pilot with a deer he changed that story. He said they weren't after pronghorn even tho multiple folks watched it. Be interesting to know how much was spent on attorneys and who paid em. This clown didn't do it. It all goes back to $. Most guys who hunt spend a lot of $ doing it. But most of us just hunt. We don't pay others to round up critters, do the hard work, and then just show up and pull the trigger. Most of us just hunt. Lark

    Fog

It's snowing now. Put down about an inch last 2 hours. This photo shows red mt up close. The closer of the far mts are across the blue along the state line. The farthest line is the gila wilderness. A real sea of fog.

being optimistic, I have a few questions

Never understood the gutless deal. Doesn't take but maybe 10 minutes to gut a big bull elk. Get the guts out, get the cooling started, reduce the weight so you can roll em around to finish skinning and breaking down the carcass. I always take the heart and liver too. I also always carry a Wyoming saw. After you get the front legs, backstraps, neck etc removed, it's real easy to cut through the rib bones and pack em out. Lark
  5. In 2015 there were about 48000 deer tags drawn in Az. So there were at least 48000 hunting licenses issued. We all know the actual number is gonna be a lot higher. If just 1% of this number got busted and lost their license it would be 480 people. Guess what. The real number ain't anywhere near 480. This one smith creep is gonna put the outfitters busted real close to 1%. Maybe over. And he ain't the only one this year. So which group is the most "ethical"? The outfitters or the weekend warriors that we've all been told don't have as much right to be in the woods. That ain't exaggerating the facts. Ha! Just because operation Navajo buck happened a few years ago doesn't mean it doesn't count. And I'd still like to know why there is no comment from even one outfitter about this? wonder why that is? Merry Christmas

Hope everyone has a good holiday season. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Lark
  7. Well, this smith guy twice. A famous guy named hatch and his chute plane. Another guy named stayner (sp?). McClendon, ain't that a kinda famous name? That's just the ones I can think of offhand. I kinda think if you figger %, there's a higher % of outfitters that get busted than the general public. But unlike others, I don't listen to comments about the mythical guys that ain't been caught yet. That's another story. I've seen this smith guy held in high esteem in magazines and in films, even after he got busted the first time. He'll just guide in Mexico until his time is up, put a dummy name on his biz, hide behind the oro gate and go on like nothing happened. Did they even fine em? Seems like the outfitters might ostracize the guy, but all we hear is crickets. Merry Christmas to all. Lark

    Looking for a firearm collector.

The .32-20 was developed as a rifle cartridge by winchester. Colt started clambering pistols in it later. Did the same with the .38-40 and .44-40. All 3 were orIginally called .32wcf, .38wcf and .44wcf. For Winchester center fire. Did it because guys liked having a rifle and pistol that could shoot the same ammo and it boosted their pistol sales. winchester never chambered the 92 in 45 because they didn't get along with colt. Colt altered their pistols to take advantage of the '92. Not the other way around. Lark

You mean 92? 97's are shotguns. I never saw black powder loads for any of the old winchesters. Have always used smokeless. Lark.

    It's a curse, I tell ya!!!! Lark
  12. Watch who you accuse junior. You should define things better. It read like weekend warriors shouldn't be allowed in the field. My position is that 'everyone' that wants to, has the right to be in the field. Good or bad. They have the right to be there. Who are all these bad guys? I don't know em. Do you? Are you incriminating yourself? Lark

  16. Everybody, even weekend warriors, have "business" in the field. Statements like that are the kinda things that make folks not like outfitters. Why do you think us weekend warriors have no business hunting and fishing? Do outfitters take precedence? And I would still like to hear an outfitter speak up on this. Seems that there some that really have harsh words when someone says something they don't like. Why the silence on this topic? The no fly laws in Az are there specifically because of antics by outfitters. Even tho all accepted fair chase rules say you shouldn't do it, laws had to be passed to stop outfitters from flying during season. Lark.

I will add the new 92's are very well made and very desirable. They just ain't an original. Lark

    Looking for a firearm collector.

They've made some new ones in .45. The originals were only on .25-20, .32-20, .38-40, .44-40, and later in .218 bee. They quit making the '92 in 1945. Winchester and browning have made some newer ones several times in the past 30 years or so. Mostly in .357, .44 mag and .45. Lark
  19. Now that I think about that, There is a long list, for sure. I find it kinda odd that guys that are trying to make a living guiding don't have any comment on a guy that has surely made things more difficult for them by his stupid and selfish actions. There are several of em that like to sling arrows in defense of perceived slights they feel they recieve. It's kinda odd that they don't have any comment on this situation. Lark
