.270 replied to ultramag's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
once i barfed on a gutshot javelina i was tryin' to field dress and started a barforama o' all the guys with me. once my uncle barfed on my deer while bein' all macho and showin' me how to field dress a buck. both times involved scrambled eggs. Lark. -
anybody know how to post photos? i have the ultimate anti-uso deal so far. Lark.

check out this. norma "locked gate" tapia is now passin' off funny munny. she's gonna have a hard time lockin' her gate from the joint. Lark. http://www.eacourier.com/articles/2005/08/...news/news01.txt

the tapia deal just keeps gettin' wierder
.270 replied to .270's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
only friend she has is one other wierdo woman that lives with her. he own family don't even like her. if she ain't there, i don't see the gate staying up too long. everyone that lives in the canyon is sick of this whole deal, along with all the folks that wanna visit it. hopefully this whole deal will sorta just go away now. counterfitting is serious stuff. i don't see her as being smart enough to pull off even crummy counterfitting, so i'm sure there is someone else involved. she'll go to singin' like a bird to save her own hide. hope that doesn't get her off with just probation. she's already fighting some pretty serious charges for pointing guns at folks. yeah, she sounds like a real hero. fightin' for justice for perverts and passin' off funny munny. the pride o' the canyon. -
Do you have some money burning a hole?

so is it open today? i might hafta take a little detour on the way home. i need some carbine ammo. has it got all them same plastic antlered mounts as the other one? oh well, at least they have good prices on stuff. wonder how they're gonna do after cabelas and bass pro open up? Lark. -
i have some misgivings about javelina, for sure. if i lived in the northeast or some other colder than a welldiggers nose place i'd dang sure see about chasin' pigalinas in feb or march. 50 or 60 has gotta be better than -20 and snowin'. sure be a nice break to come out here for a week and get outta that crap. as far as the deer tags, i'm thinking that we need the cap on all of em. my brother and his boy didn't even get a deer tag this year. and they applied for a hunt that is normally about 85% draw for first and 2nd choice. it's a rough deal all around. too bad we have such good hunting in a couple places. makes everyone who reads magazines think there are 40" bucks and 400 bulls under every bush. and they don't understand why there is such a limited number of tags. Lark.

no, the stickers gotta stay. just for a reminder if nothin' else. and deerslam. i didn't say all nonresidents were whiners. but a bunch of em are. one guy i read a little about was from like indiana or some dang foreign place. anyway he was callin' Az. unfair and all kindsa stuff. when the state he lived in allowed "NO" nonresidents on public land. only way a nonres could hunt there was on private property. as far as the $'s you talked about, it doesn't even compare to the billions that residents spend in their states each year just in taxes. permit fees don't even begin to pay all the bills of the Az. game and fish. they're subsidized by taxes just like everything else. outside of federal income tax and social security, every dime i spent last year was in Az. and it's been that way for over half a century. i have absolutely "NO" problems with nonresidents hunting in our state. i hunt other states all the time. i think everyone should hunt. but they gotta play by the rules that we decide on. they should have absolutely no say in how another state does things. i have no say in other state's decisions either. when i go outta state, i play by their rules. i think Az. keeping nonresident permits to 10% is very reasonable. we have a lot of hunters here ourselves, and need more. in order for this way of life to survive we need more and more folks to like it. and they need to know they have a chance of getting a tag every once in awhile in their home state. anyway, i'm starting to ramble. uso ain't dead. i'm sure they are behind the landowner tag push that is going on. that's why i look at the sfw with a jaundiced eye. are they in bed with taulman too? seems like every state they've ever wedged theirselves into has ultimately had a bad experience with them. i know allen taylor seems to feel they may be ok, and just for that reason i haven't passed judgement yet. he's pretty sharp on things and i value his opinions, but i still can't condone em. not yet anyway. anyway, looks like maybe this first snake got it's head cut off. but this sob is like a hydra, he has lotsa heads. and he has lawyers who want his money. as long as there is money to be had and lawyers to have it, we have to be vigilant. Lark.

seein' as how i'm the only one that listed "male model" as an occupation, i'll volunteer my services. you could put a photo o' me, bare chested, with a dead coues over my back, bandleeros o' ammo in an x across my chiseled muscles, and my ol' .270. you can do it with or without favio hair. only takes me a week or so to grow ponytail. sort of a rambo lookin' deal would be the best, i think. anyway, in case your interested in a real cool logo. Lark. -
far be it from me to give uso any credit for anything good, but in the long run, we're gonna be better off because of this lawsuit. that is if we can get some commissioners with some nuts and if we can get rid of shroufe and his toadies. uso pretty much united the residents of all states, especially Az. and nevada. there has never been a time that all the different organizations all fought for the same thing. and fought hard. before this, it seemed like they all fought for their own reasons and not for the big picture. now everyone sees how much they can do as one, maybe this will be a real good deal for everyone. it dang sure can be. but now all the different groups need to get together and get some folks on this commission who are outdoorsmen and who have reasons other than political motivation for being on the commission. it looks like uso is whupped. now is the time to beat on the folks that really need beat on. the jokers that run this state. the reid bill allows the states to make their own decisions. with no outside influence. no lawyers. no whiny nonresidents. this state can do what it knows is best, if we can get some commissioners who will use the sound data that the azgfd collects and who will run shroufe and his sucklings outta town and get a guy that really and truly wants to improve things here. that's my take. Lark.

what i'm saying is don't hammer on folks for hunting. if it's legal, fine. bowhunters don't like rifle hunters and vice versa. some longbow guys don't like compounds. strictly "traditional". some flintlock and cap and ball guys don't like inline shooters. there are too many folks out there that don't like any of us, for hunters to get split up in little groups. if a crossbow is legal, fine. tell the guy you see with one, "good deal". as long as they're huntin', i don't care. i think guys that hunt over bait or salt or from a nice warm "blind" are little odd, but i'm on their side. Lark.

i don't care if you're huntin' with a broken whiskey bottle. as long as you're huntin'. Lark.

grab a screwdriver and do it yourself. ain't much too it. then sand bag it up in the backyard and bore sight it. just make sure things are "TIGHT". not snug, "TIGHT". different brands of rings can be a little tricky, but no hill for a stepper, fer sure. Lark.

anybody know this guy? can't hunt until 2031? dang, he musta got caught about 15 times. i thought the most they could revoke ya for was 5 years. sounds like this guy is goin' for the record. oh well, don't sound like not havin' a license slows him down much. Lark. http://www.azgfd.gov/artman/publish/article_352.shtml

i'd think it'd be the other way around. if you shot a .270 in '06 barrel it's just gonna make a funny sound and blow the neck out to '06 size. wouldn't build much pressure at all. it'd be real hard to shove an '06 into a .270 chamber, but stranger things have happened. and it would be nasty. Lark.

i'm an apprentice garbageman for the city of sundad. also do sidejobs like skunk trappin', bee removal, muleskinnin', male model, and writin' and speench tharpery. Lark.

ya big dummy, listen to what i say. two-seven-dee. all other guns are woman guns. all an '06 is, is a necked up .270. why mess with perfection? actually, there are no bad guns. there are some crummy ones, but they ain't bad. there are some bad shots out there tho. Lark.

BADGERS!? WE DON'T NEED NO STINKEEN' BADGERS!!! sorry, i couldn't help myself.......... you're probably just lucky. ya never see a whole bunch o' badgers. they're always in a hole somewhere. i'm the only guy i know who ever chased one down and killed it with one rock, too. Lark.

about all the regs say is that the tag has to accompany the meat to where it is to be processed. the locker plant or your house. a taxidermist will require the tag before he'll work on anything for you. i always leave tags on antlers. and if i do take one off, i keep it. have a bunch of em. most taxidermists will staple the tag to the back of the mount, shoulder mounts anyway, so you'll always have it there. they need to make bear and lion tags about twice as long as they are. pain the neck to have to skin back a hind leg to get to the gambrel so you can attach the tag. Lark.

group size an' all that doesn't mean as much to me as it once did. mainly because i have a horrible right shoulder that can't take recoil like it once could and my eyes aren't near as good anymore either. just can't shoot like i once did. and my old winchester has had several thousand rounds through it and it doesn't shoot as tight as it once did. if all my bullets hit in roughly the same place at the range, i'm pretty well satisfied. my kid can take my gun and shoot under an inch with it while i have a hard time staying inside of 2 or 3 inches. but when i pull down on a buck i seem to steady down a lot and usually get the job done. a rifle needs to be as accurate as it can be and the shooter needs to know the rifle. that's why i can't see changing rifles every few years. i own all kindsa guns. dozens and dozens and dozens of em. all different calibers. they are all good. just bought a different one the other day. but when i go hunting i take my old .270. not one of the other 6 or 7 .270's i own. the old one. the one i know. the one i have faith in. the one with the dot in the scope and the hair trigger. the one with the beat up stock and very little blue left on it. the one that weighs almost 11 pounds loaded. the one that is almost 60 years old. i've shot probably in the neighborhood of 40 bucks with in the last about 25 years. probly a dozen elk. etc. it never fails. sometimes i do, but it don't. i've shot deer at 20 yards standing and at almost 700 running, with it. sometimes i take "FARKILLER", a .300 mag. but most of the time, like 95%, i take my .270. missed a few too. but most of the time it connects. most any bullet will shoot well out of most any rifle (of the the same caliber, of course), you just have to figure out how to make it do it. i've never seen a big enough difference in bullet styles or brands to make a lot of difference in accuracy, for hunting anyway. if a guy is shooting 1000 meter benchrest stuff, he better have exactly what is required. as long as you load your ammo with the correct overall length that your gun likes, you should able to hit fairly well. any reasonable bullet will kill anything. "Karamojo" Bell, the greatest ivory hunter ever, used a 7x57 for elephants. everyday. don't put a lot in numbers on a paper. sectional density, balistic coefficient, knockdown, etc., none of it means a thing if you hit em in the lungs. the deer don't say, "ow, that bullet had really good sectional density". accuracy at the range, your ability to shoot offhand and turn the range accuracy into hunting accuracy, the intimacy you have with your rifle and the flattest trajectory you can get are what really matters. and having a gun you have faith in. Lark.

a warm bag. that's funny. i'll take the same rifle as the last 30 years. my same ol' man. same knife. same truck. same ol' horse too. might try some new bullets. Lark. -

it ain't never a money issue with allen. he's so rich my bank account went up just talkin' to him. mojo? you gonna hunt in N'awlins? reading what ya rit about the bulls, it sounds to me like they were there dead somewhere and you tracked past em. i mean it's real hard to say, without being there. but i've never seen one lung shot that made it very far. gutshot, yeah. hockshot, yeah. humpshot, yeah. they seldom go too far after getting hit in the liver or kidneys. takes em awhile to croak, but they get too sick to run, real quick. one thing i've seen several times is elk hit hard, and for whatever reason sometimes, they quit leaving much blood. hair cakes over or the skin moves to where blood doesn't come out very well. something happens. don't know for sure what. another thing it seems like is that they can be real tough and go until they don't have any blood left and get real hard to track. but i've never seen, not even one time, where i thought that it was the bullets fault. i've seen some guys do some horrible jobs shootin'. seen some times when the bullet just wasn't what was needed, which is also the shooters fault. especially when them dang balistic tips first came out. saw a guy shoot a 3x3 muley so many times that it was real ugly with a .257 roberts. actually found the little plastic tips laying on the ground, by all the hide it blew off. but that wasn't the bullets fault either. he shoulda used something different. like i say, without being there it's hard to pass judgement, but i've never seen a well hit elk get away. with rifle, bow or muzzleloader. if it was in country that had a little steepness to it, i'd guess that they turned abruptly and went downhill real fast as they were taking their last gasp. be real easy for one to run away from the bloodtrail that way. and get far enough away that they'd be hard to find. and i know what you're talking about when you say confidence. sometimes it's like something just plucks your bullets out of the air. you know you have to be hittin' em, but ya ain't. i used to use the old style silvertips years ago. especially with my ol' .30/30. and in my .270 to some extent. they always worked fine. i would think that just about anything you decide on would work real well. i bought some hornady interbond 130's in .277 today. gonna try something different for a change. haven't shot anything but 140 btsp's for over 20 years and they have worked great. but i think i'll load up 100 o' these and see what they do. o' course when you're an ol' ear hole shooter like me, at least inside o' 500 yards, anything works. pick a bullet and use it. Lark.
