hunting with your son/sons
.270 replied to dogman68's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
i was 7 the first time i saw my dad shoot a buck. my little brother was only 3. he shot a coues buck with his ol' bear recurve. on the way back to the road he shot a bobcat with the same arrow and never set the buck down off his shoulders. i can remember that like it was yesterday. and i can't remember what i did last friday. since then there have been countless adventures shared with the ol' man, my brother and my boys. red letter days fer sure. only thing wrong with a .280 is that it ain't a .270. Lark.

i don't disagree with it. it's just a lot easier. shoot alla them lions. but their ain't much neater than watchin' good dry ground hounds do their stuff. Lark.

i knew it, out runnin' cats in the snow. i could catch lions in the snow with cheewawa dogs. Lark.

rained 4 inches at the rancho neglecto. had to pump down the cement pond twice. aflac and stud (my 2 ducks) liked it. dang what a good rain. how'd it do in the gila valley? any o' you guys got a rain guage? it's funny, now alla them pickup truck lion hunters with worthless snow only dogs finally got some snow, but it's too deep to get their trucks outta town. now that's funny right there, i don't care who ya are. Lark.

you ever hear of the "strip"? that fabled place north o' the grand canyon where the huge muleys grew. you guys ever hear of it? in the early 80's the lion population got so outta whack that they didn't even have a deer season for a couple years and the lions were actually starving to death. it hasn't even started to recover. might not ever get back to where it was. that's the fact jack. the azgfd sat around on their fat butts and watched it happen too. wouldn't listen to their own bioligists. and they really didn't care until the lions started dieing. deer didn't seem to matter much to em. california has the same problem is a lotta areas. that's why lions eat so many pets and people out there. once the west got civilized, game has to be "managed". no way around it. and there are way too many lions everywhere in this state. i think cat size has more to do with genetics, remoteness, age (which is directly tied to remoteness, because the live longer in wilder country, and the availabilty of food. big toms begat big toms. as long as they live long enough and eat enough. and you be quiet bullwidgeon about codgerdom or i'll have one o' my people thunk a knot on yer head. Lark.

well, the way i look at it, and i am well knowed as the smartest guy in the world and i really like to fish, an animal is just as big as a guy says it is. and when it comes to lions, as long as it's dead, it can be as big as the guy who shot it wants it to be. that's just my superior opinion. now bow before me. HEY BULLWIDGEON, I SAID BOW!!!! Lark.

it's just another form of deer prejudice. Lark.

i took it but i'm kinda irked that the survey is either whitetail or muledeer. i always apply for a unit that is any antlered deer and i hunt it that way. depends on the mood i'm in when i wake up i guess. why wasn't there anything about the any antlered hunts on it? Lark.

Jennifer Martin Commission Nomination
.270 replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
well, hate to say i told ya so, buuuuuttt....... this broad ain't no stealth candidate, she's just what mr. napalitano ordered. an anti everything. we were screwed when this "dirt burm across a creek" got elected. to me, in doesn't matter if a commissioner is a friend of sportsmen or hunts or fishes or whatever, as long as it's someone who will force the azgfd to toe the line and use good scientific data to make their decisions. we haven't had that for years. this buncha puppets that have been on the commission for the past 10 or so years have been a literal joke. you couldn't find a backbone in all of em put together. look back 2 years at the uso fiasco. yeah, those friends of the sportsmen really did us proud. up till now, the commission has been nothing but political payback and country club backscratching. now we're gonna have a basicly adversarial, militant buncha creeps that are more worried about the lions and coyots having enough to eat than for hunters and anglers to be able to pursue their passion. more worried about how many california condors we can get to eat out of the garbage cans at the grand canyon. how many wolf/dog crosses we can release and claim them to be wild animals, etc. how they can protect the coati mundis, cuz their cute, and at the same time let the turkey population slowly die. don't know what it's gonna take to fix things, but the first thing that has to happen is napalitano has gotta go. and i don't see the republicans coming up with a candidate that i even like, much less feel like supporting. and what's gonna be even worse is when ol' spray on tan shroufe finally reitires. can't wait to see what kinda director this commission will come up with. the hunters and anglers of Arizona have got to get involved in whatever party has a chance to unseat napalitano and get a candidate that shines. we have enough votes to swing this election. Lark. -
you're talking about 2 different types of sheep. desert sheep don't like to be around folks at all and are wild as heck. them tame stupid morenci sheep are the mountain variety. they're like the retards of the sheep family. Lark.

might be worth something to a collector of scopes, but they aren't a real good optic, compared to todays stuff. i assume it has beuhler mounts? sounds like it. that really is a pretty good way to go, but most folks had a real hard time figuring em out. having the adjustments as part of the scope are a lot easier for most folks. but the old straight tube scopes had a lot less places to fail. is it a fixed power? what x is it? $180 for an h&h sounds like a good deal. what kind of rifle is it? didn't know that was you in globe until i got home and my kid told me. i was the good lookin' guy wearin' the cowboy hat and drivin' a red gmc with a rollaway bed in the back (i hate campin' uncomfortable). me and my boys stopped by late yesterday afternoon and bs'd a bit. i see the resemblence now, but you ain't near as cute in person as ya are in photos. guess i shoulda been thinkin' better, but i was tired. anyway, now ya know how the infamous ".270" looks in real life. at least how he looks after 5 days without a bath and livin' in pig camp. Lark.
