what a rotten deal. driving along working, making a living and get hit in the head with a highpower. be careful fellers. the very first thing a guy learns about guns to make sure whether or not it's loaded. just one simple movement would have made this article unneccessary. go back to the basics and always be sure of the condition of your gun. the poor guy who died left a lot of dependants without a dad and grandad and guy who shot the gun has got a horrible time ahead of him. i talked with one of the guys in these photos this morning. it is a for real 400 gross bull. he said it will net over 390. 60" main beams, 20" thirds, very heavy beams. all the stuff a bull has to have to go 400. i'm glad they turned it around so's that you can't see the back of the safeway. Lark.

NJ fishing, hunting could end
.270 replied to billrquimby's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
we cuss the heck outta the commission, and rightly so for the most part. but it is by far better to have appointed commissioners than elected ones. at least sportsmen have some input and say-so in who is appointed. and even tho they are stinkin' low level politicians, they are usually sorta sportmen. i'll never give our commission a break, just because i believe complacency doesn't accomplish anything and feel that intelligent rebellion, insurrection and questioning is a good thing. but any time anyone says we need to elect our wildlife officials, which has been mentioned onthis site, we need to slap em around. this new joisey deal is not a good thing. Lark. -
so now according to -}-> (ain't that the same thing prince calles hisself now?) we gotta incorporate legal, ethical and spiritual? so i'm gonna go to heck if i use a trail camera and you think it's unethical? or you're gonna go to heck if i think the way you hunt is unethical? ethics are between me and me. don't put the creator into this. dang, if i'm gonna offend the heavenly hosts for huntin' i guess i'm hellbound for sure. look out satan, you got some competition on the way. i'm gonna knot yer tail, dehorn, brand, ear mark and castrate ya and kick yer butt right outta there and put in some A/C. when i kick satan outta heck where's he gonna go? AJ? ok now, one more time, slowly, ethics-is-your-opinion. you-can't-legislate-ethics. dang-it. Lark.

i know these fellers quite well. in fact one of em was at one time an official tape stretcher for sci. if they come up with over 400, it's gonna be real close. they shoulda took one o' them get 10 feet behind it photos. that makes em look real big. the 2 stickers are long enough to cause it some net problems typical. sure has big #3's and nie eyeguards. healthy main beams. dang guys, good job. i wanna see a photo of steve with that big grin o' his. Lark.

i found out more about it. the guys on the hunt are all outlaws and can't be trusted and are wanted in 9 states and 3 countries for a miriad of crimes. and they shot it behind the safeway in springerville. at night. in a pen. jerry did call it in. but it was like, "here buddy, come and get this sweet feed"............ oh yeah, and they are all horrible at math too. once they shot some bears that they scored at over 80 inches. dang, that's a big bull. good job guys. and one more thing, i taught em everthing they know. except for that outlaw stuff. they learned that in reform school. Lark.

boycott the harvest survey post card!!!!
.270 replied to bowsniper's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
personally, i don't think that the survey does one bit of good, as it is. the elk tag increase in 22 north this year proves it. but, if a guy doesn't do his part, he can't complain, at least not as much, about the system. a guy should send them in. i hafta admit that sometimes i don't. but a guy should. some states require participation and if you fail to return it, you can't apply the next year. i also think that there should be a lot more surveys done in the field by the wardens and biologists. they should set up road checks and stuff and travel around to camps, things like that, and do lot more plain ol' good biologicial data collection on dead animals and get some idea about where in the unit they were taken and talk to the hunters about what they saw as far as animal populations. and not just talk about the animals that were in seaon. ask some questions about other game and range conditions and don't be so dang accusatory and act like anyone that was successfull musta broke the law. what type of tires do you guys run?
.270 replied to fatfootdoc's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
i really like bfg at's. on my old truck, i got over 70,000 miles from 2 different sets. i do run em until i can see the air, but i also never had a flat on either set. had a set of goodyear durawalls between those to sets and got over 50,000 outta them, but they didn't last as long as the bfg's. with a big heavy cummins, make sure you get th 10 ply tires. "E" rating is 10 ply. the D's will work, but you will have more flats. Lark. -
ok, one more time, ethics is your opinion. if a group has a set code of ethics, then that is their opinion. you can not legislate ethics. if you try, you will lose, because then you've opened the door to every bleedin' heart to have a say in what you do. azpackhorse made some real good observations, that made me think some. how far do ya wanna go with "ethics"? a couple weeks ago a real famous guide had a high dollar hunter with the most premium elk tag on planet earth wait until that last few days of a one year long season to shoot a bull in the velvet in some folks' yard. there was a lot of discussion about ethics and stuff there and buncha guys felt it was ok, mostly, from what i could tell, because the guy had spent a lot of money that was supposed to go to conservation and his guide had a good reputation, at least before the incident. and a buncha other folks were screamin' bloody murder on the other side o' the fence. who's right? i aint' heard if there was a plea or a conviction, but in my opinion, if they get fined, then they were unethical and i hope they get hammered into the ground. if they don't, then they were ethical and can walk away. i think what they did was real stupid and was not representetive of what i feel hunting is, or is about, but ethics don't really come to play in it to me. but that's my "opinion". same with all this other stuff. if it's legal, it's ethical. like i've said, do you think anything we do is "ethical" to anti's? ethical is just a word that folks like to throw around when they need one to bash somebody with. sorta like nazi. every time somebody with a poor vocabulary and little imagination wants to hammer somebody the call em a nazi. even tho thay have no idea what it even means. ethics is your opinion, or my opinion. in my opinion we use the word way too much and in the wrong context. Lark.

if a bear's pad on his hind foot is 8 inches long, he's a big bear. heck, if it's 7 inches long, he's a big bear. i'm assuming when you said it was 13 inches you were going from heel to claw. the front pad on this one looks to be 5-6 inches wide. probably a mature bear for sure, but hard to say. tracks are good indicator of where to start, but it might be a young guy with big feet. probably not, but maybe. i had big feet when i was a kid. doesn't look to be a real old codger. when they get real old and real big their toes seem to spread out more and they don't leave as tight a track. tracks in the mud may look bigger if the bear skidded a little. this looks like a real good track that hasn't been smeared any. probably a bear worth shooting. Lark.

you'll be dissapointed in the sst. use the interbond or interlock. the sst's are like a hand grenade. really. Lark.

the comments about hobby hunters are real interesting and a real good point. there are problably more folks who go hunting just to go and get out of town than there are folks who are really into it. guys who go when they get a tag and have a real life the rest o' the year. not guys like me who all i can think about is hunting and wanting my old legs and lungs back so i can keep up with my kids. i love to see any guy with his kids in the woods. hunting, fishing, camping, whatever. whether they are real serious or just getting out of town. you ever watch a guy with a 3 or 4 year old kid trying to help him catch a fish? it's a good thing. i have to agree with desert bull when he said a guy doesn't have to eat and drink hunting to be a part of it. and a big part. maybe the biggest. those are the guys that really don't need to be disenchanted. i get aggravated when a novice gets in the way, but so what? he paid his money and he's trying to shoot something. good for him. same with fishing. there are a lot more guys with some zebcos stashed in the garage who take their kids out a few times a year than there are guys with 50k bass boats. and those guys are just as important. my comments about road hunters were an old wound that still hurts. i'm real sure that irresponsible guys wounded to death a big buncha the deer in the white mts. it was horrible. the little bucks weren't getting to grow up because they were getting gutshot from 80 yards and butt stuck and all that stuff. but they were allowed to do it and it was never regulated. i'm all for real live game management. i hate more restrictions, but sometimes that is what true management requires. i never like to hear folks say that there needs to be a marksmanship test or other stuff to keep incompentent folks home. i don't see this draw having a big effect on opportunity, other than it may keep some of the "hobby" guys home and a guy won't be able to move around as much. it will keep a lot of guys from hunting 2 seasons. and it may make more opportunity for the real serious bowhunters. i'm interested to see how many nonrez's apply. we'll all have to wait and see just what kind of limitations they put on it. can a guy still hunt the other open units, if he gets drawn for one of the permit units? stuff like that. i really hope this doesn't have some underlying stuff that seems to be real prevelant in azgfd decisions. i really hope this is just about wildlife management based on good data. i guess time will tell. Lark.

i think it's unethical to hunt whistling elk. you should wear ear plugs and muffs to make it sporting. Lark.

i can't see the photo, but can it talk? if it can it might just be bullwidgeon, the talkin' javelina. Lark.

pretty much all ethics are is your opinion. if a sportsman group has a code of ethics, then that is the opinion of that group. or at least the guys that started it. once again, legal=ethical. don't ever try to legislate or define ethics. do you think "ANY" anti hunter thinks hunting is "ETHICAL"? heck no they don't. same guys probly think abortion is and capital punishment ain't, too. don't blur the issue. if it's legal, it's ethical. it's like trying to argue religion. believe what you want to believe and live that way. Lark.

i hate to see more regulation. but to me, maybe the azgfd is finally looking at something other than the bottom line. archery deer has been pretty much unregulated for a long time and part of the reason is because they liked to sell all those extra tags and a lot of them are nonrez tags too. but i have felt for many years, that archery deer should be a draw. chose your tool and use it. don't know for sure if it's changed much, but when i lived in the u1 and 27 area the archery seasons were a joke. truck loads of jerks riding around in the bed and wounding every stupid spike and forkhorn that stood by the road. i quit bowhunting because i didn't want to be associated with the crap that went on. one camp i knew of, and i knew every jerk in the camp and about half of them were in law enforcement, had 12 guys with tags. they wounded 15 deer that weren't recovered. one guy killed one. and they all had rifle tags for other hunts. i know the wardens have been cracking down on road hunting arrow flingers, i won't call em hunters, but it still ain't right what was going on. i think it was one of several factors that led to the u1 deer herd dissapearing and the 27 deer really declining. others i know feel the same way about kaibab. game has to be managed. after the first road was built, game management had to take place. and game management is always woefully behind the need for it. i know i'll get labasted, what the heck, but i wish they would put a draw on all archery deer seasons, not just a limited number of units. Arizona only has so much water and we only get it when mother nature decides to let us have it, that is what limits the habitat to it's carrying capacities. and if you have a bunch of water one year, it doesn't make a bunch of deer that year. or the next or the next. you have to have sufficient water for years to increase the herd and the herd has to be managed. and it has to be managed at a state, county, hunt unit and specific area, level. you can't shotgun the state. some years back they put some new restrictions on bowhunting on the kaibab and folks threw a fit. but it's still open. it ain't hard to hunt there. don't know if it has made a difference yet, but something had to be done. i don't often agree with the azgfd. you guys know that. but i think this is can be a first step in the right direction on a very long road. hopefully good scientific data was used to make these decisions and not the bank account, like seems to have driven every decision they've made for the last 20 years. i hate more restrictions and i hate to see opportunity diminished, but there needs to be better bowhunt management on the Az. deer herd. i'll wait and see if it helps. now have at me. Lark.

only reason it looks tall is cuz it's so narrow. i guess it ain't bad for a "challenged" hunter. at least he moved it so's you can't see the birdfeeder, whirly plastic sunflowers, chain link fence and back porch of the house who's backyard it was in bein' fed by some snowbirds. i guess it ain't too bad, for a sawed off runt like GG85. How Do We Make Changes in AG&FD?????

go back to the very first post, elect a new governor. and a good one. this guy we got now is a farce. Lark. -
so i'm cruisin' up th coronado trail friday afternoon. it's rainin', it's cool, i'm outta town, no traffic, no idiots pullin' out in front of me or nothin'. at least for awhile. a few miles below the old highway up the east side o' rose peak, some dork in a blue ford was sittin' on the side o' the road and as i was approaching, and real close too, he just pulled out in front o' me just like he owned the highway. just like happens 15 times a day by the jackasses here in town. and then he just stopped. blind corner. my kid who was behind us almost hit me. good thing we were all belted in and just slow drivin' lookin' at the scenery. and i'm sure glad i wasn't pullin' my horse trailer, because i'da sure throwed them all over the place. and he had great big CW.com sticker in his back window. c'mon dude, learn how to drive first, then get on the road. sheesh. i hope you ain't there this weekend, cuz i will have my trailer and stock with me. i vote that Amanda sends out an application form and folks hafta pass a background check before they can get a sticker. Lark.

ATV Restrictions On The Way
.270 replied to Outdoor Writer's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
the usfs, blm and about every other federal agency that has anything to do with land has been legislating their way to this for a long time and it is the fault of jerks with quads. instead of showing a little bit of responsibility and respect, a part of the quad population have been abject jackasses and now everyone else is going to pay for it. the road past honeymoon to malay and saunders is closed for about 5 months of the year just so a couple jerk idiots can't take their quads in there and tear up the country looking for elk horns. for no other real reason too. they close it to all vehicles during that time just to keep a couple anal orifices from tearing things up. some guys are too lazy and too stupid to get off the quad and do a little footbackin' and the folks that use em with common sense get lumped in with the bad guys. it's shotgun legislation, but sometimes that's the only way you can do things. Lark.
