which model of rifle do you prefer?
.270 replied to devinv's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
a pre 64 model 70 is the "ONLY" choice for a serious hunter. in .270, well that's just icing on a really good cake. Lark. -

this arguement would be a lot more fun if we could use gutter language on here without gettin' nuked or bein' called a racist or homerfobe or even worse,.... "insensitive". that way a guy could say what he really meant. it's plum funny watchin' you fellers tryin' to use politically correct words for this stuff. my sides hurts. Lark. -
don't care what kinda reasoning was used. it still takes 25% of the season away from joe hunter and saves a few lions for outfitters. i've agreed all along that not many lions would get taken then, but now even if a guy gets lucky and sees one, he can't shoot it. and all just to pacify anti's and so hound hunters can rest their dogs. 25% of the season was taken away from 99% of the hunters because 1% of the hunters wanted to pacify anti hunters and save a few lions for them to guide folks to. was there some law saying that hound hunters "HAD" to hunt then? i don't recall one. nothing said that they couldn't stay home in the summer. there ain't enough dry ground, cold trailin' hounds or men that know how to raise or use em left anyway. most of the so called lion hunters i see ride around in a pickup after a snow looking for a track across the road. heck, just make lion season when there is snow on the ground. but now even if a guy finds a kill or just happens to jump a lion, for 25% of the year, he can't do anything about it. legally. none of the excuses so far carry any weight. definitely not enough weight to deny 99% of the hunters 25% of the season. think about that awhile and then tell me again why it was a good decision. biology had nothing to with it. lions are prolific. they breed and reproduce year round. it was already illegal to kill females with kittens. the azgfd saw a way to do some politickin' with the anti's and maybe get a feather to use down the road somewhere, while telling 99% of the hunters that could no longer take a lion for 25% of the year. did you ever look at it that way? tell me again why it was a good decision to take 25% of the season away from 99% of the hunters? Lark.

it's plum funny to read a buncha hicks tryin' to have act intelligent over a subject that has no intelligence to be found. and try to be politically correct too. Lark, -
maybe that's what i heard. i thought some guys got their cameras confiscated by treepigs and when they pursued it they got citations. but heck, i coulda been dreamin' too. Lark.

i oughta be illegal. i'm deadlier on game than bovine tuberculosis. still, seems to me i read awhile back that is wasn't legal to put out trail cameras on federal land. maybe i was havin' a bad dream on sauerkraut and chilli night...........Lark.

i know it'll probly dissapoint a buncha folks, but i ain't diein'. been havin' a pain in the liver area here lately and had some tests and they were all good, but it kept hurtin'. they did some more, (cat scan, mri) and then told me i needed to come in and talk to the dr so's he could set me up with and internal surgeon and possibly an oncologist. well, i got there and the sawbones was all embraced because he got my results mixed up with some other poor sob. i feel sorry for whoever's charts got mixed up, but i'm perfeclty healthy. good liver, clean innerds (probly from excessive fartin') healthy heart, kidneys, spam muscle, gizzard, prostate. i probly got some kinda nerve dang-age from landin' wrong on a rock after gittin' bucked off somewhere that makes my ribs hurt, is about all that could be wrong. so i'm happier than a runt deer hunter with a december tag. heck, i think i'll go whup me a bar fulla bikers just to celebrate. keep on passin' gas, i'm purty shore that is the main reason for my exceptional health. Lark.

i heard some guy robbed a likker store with a mathews and some kid with a red rider knocked off a bank over there awhile back.........Lark.

i think mccain is a little sharper than folks give him credit for. the only real problem i've had with him is how he treated his first wife and the gangster background of his wife's family. which is how he got drug into the keating deal. as far as obama. he's a joke. a really bad joke. the guy has never had a job. never done anything that required sweat or dedication. he was raised richer than any of us could ever imagine. everything he has is a result of his mother's families wealth. yet he chunked them into the woodchipper to gain a little favor with commies. he's surrounded himself with some spooky people. literal convicted terrorists, convicted con men. a couple really goofy "religious" mentors. heck, his home was financed by a real live oil sheik. he's like smoke, going wherever the wind blows him. no real direction, other than to get in the whitehouse. i have some other real deep seated notions about what will happen to society in general, if he gets elected, but i'll save them for after the election. at least mccain has been in the dirt. he has some real life experience. he knows what evil is. and he had the sense and foresight to select a sharp conservative as a running mate. obama should write children's books with the popup things on the pages. because he has no idea what the world is about. i mean other than he's been told by card carryin' commies, religious freaks, convicted terrorists and con men and what he learned in muslim schools. there's some real good training for an American president. Lark.

azyoung, excellent info dude. you guys watch this guy, he knows how to read. here is a good article that 'splains a little about what caused what is happening on wall street today. and remember one thing, wall street is not the economy. 2 completely different things. wall street is guys trying to make money without working. the economy is guys making money by working. read this article. slietnbutdeadly, vote for whoever you want to, but do a little more research. the republicans controlled congress for about 6 years. that ended about 2 years ago. before that, for decades, the democrats controlled both houses. when Reagan did all the good stuff he did, it was with a dem controlled house and senate. and dem's are the ones who are blocking any kind domestic oil production. won't let us drill, except where there ain't any oil. won't let us develop oil shale, oil sand or produce petroleum from coal. also won't allow any natural gas liquification or new oil refinerys. won't even let us buy oil from canada that is produced from oil shale, oil sand or from coal to oil conversion. it's a sad deal. and this mortgage crap that's going on? well read a little and all these stupid loans that folks have known were gonna tank, well you can lay that on clinton. he was the one who lobbied the heck outta mortgage companies for these bad loans so that folks that can't afford a house could buy one. this isn't something that just popped up. it's been a wreck lookin' for place to happen for years. and remember, any tax applied to big business, you get to pay it, not them. they just raise their prices accordingly to make up the difference and actually make more money in the long run because everything they do is set up on percentages. and the rich guys obama wants to tax? well guess what, you're him. if you have a job and make anything over the poverty level, you're rich and should feel bad about it. i ain't for sure who the answer is, but i know obama ain't it. if you ever want to retire or have anything, a guy that tells you up front that he's gonna tax you to death because it the patriotic thing to do, well he ain't the guy i'm gonna vote for. just from the 2nd ammendment stand point i don't see how anyone who likes to hunt or own a firearm could vote for this joker. that is one thing that mccain and especially palin, are real strong on. inform yourselves fellers. there is nothing that carries more strength that good info. and there is nothing more painfull than mistakes. take a long, hard look at how things really are. not how the media says it is. decide for yourself with good info. not campaign promises. Lark.

i don't feel any better. it's just good to know ya ain't gonna croak. anyway from some dang disease. when i die i wanna go in my sleep, like my grandad. not kickin' snd screamin' like the rest o' the geezers in the car he was drivin'. it was a spooky couple o' days. at least the dr. was apologetic and i made him tell me about a good elk huntin' place to make up for it. 'course he probly got them charts mixed up too. take care o' yourselves. 'specially when you're young. seems almost everything i'm fightin' now is from something tha happened when i was a young. you get busted up and get over it and feel ok, but when you get some hard bark on ya, things start hurtin' all over again. and they don't quit hurtin' or git better. i think i can feel everyplace i ever landed. and i don't bounce worth nothin'. don't hurt yourself and don't git sick. Lark.

is it just me or does it seem like there are a lotta really nice bulls being taken in the bow hunts this year? dang, i've got a lotta photos of some good bulls this years. several over 350. one they say was over 400. my cousin's boy killed a really good 6x6 in 27. all that rain did some good. sure seems like they are filled out real well this year. i can't wait till the late hunt. Lark.

here's a good tip for ya. in any unit south of I-10, take at least one extra person to stay in your camp so's your stuff don't all get stolened. as far as where the deer are, good luck. but be vigilant with your stuff. Lark.

i think right now is the good ol' days for coues deer. i remember my dad talking about how many there were in the 50's and early 60's and i guess folks could really stack em up. i can't recall a time when so many big ones were taken on such a regular basis. good optics and the ability to get way back in the rough stuff, i guess. my ol' man never even had a scope or binoculars then. and the bulls i've seen taken this year seem to be extra good. there were a lot of predictions that the good rain in the mountains would really fill out the antlers. good to see. maybe i can get me a spike with real fat horns. Lark.
