Miss America
.270 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
sounds like the miss usa pagaent has run it's course. now it's a political statement. maybe they oughta have a miss NRA contest. there'd be better lookin' women and they would dang sure be smarter. and marksmanship in a bikini could be one o' the categories. Lark. -
this is good news. now we'll see what kinda other crap they try. a guy sent me an email today that said they were gonna try to call reloaders unlicensed ammunition manufacturers and pull something there. it's on boys. we gotta hang in for 4 years and vote this moron out. Lark.

i've been scratchin' my head wondering what kinda dirty tricks the obamanation was gonna pull to keep us from shooting. he's said all along we can have guns, but it's been pretty apparant he's gonna make it painfull to shoot em. i still look for some kinda hazardous waste legislation to stop us from using bullets, primers and powder. then i got this today. what a deal. they are gonna actually lose money to sell brass to the commies. sorta like how we sold the old "el" railroad to japan before WWII so they could melt it down to make ships to and guns to wage war against us. this is a sad deal. again, anyone who voted for obama, slug yourself in the mouth, every morning. the game is on. Lark. Georgia Arms is the 5th largest retailer of .223 Ammo in America . (they sell 9 mm, .45, etc ammo) They normally buy spent brass from the US Dept of Defense - 'one time used' shell casings by our Military - from training on Military bases, etc. They buy the brass and then re-load for resale to Law Enforcement, Gun Shops, Gun Clubs, Wal-Mart, and etc. They normally buy 30,000 lbs of spent brass at a time. This week the DoD wrote a letter to the owner of Georgia Arms and said that from now on the DoD will be destroying the brass - shredding it It is no longer available to the Ammo makers - unless they just buy it in a scrap shredded condition (which they have No use for). The shredded brass is NOW going to be sold by the DoD to China as scrap metal....after the DoD pays for it to be shredded. The DoD is selling the brass to China for less money than Ammo manufacturers have been paying...plus the DoD has to pay to have the brass shredded and do all the accounting paperwork. That sure helps the US economy now, doesn't it? Sell cheaper to China - and do not sell shells at all to a proven US business. Any agenda working here???? Obama going after our ammunition!!!!! The Georgia Arms owner even related a story that one of his competitors had already purchased a load of brass last week - and the DoD contacted him this week and said they were sending someone over to make sure it was destroyed.. Shell Casings he had already bought! THE BRASS HAS NO VALUE TO THE AMMO MAKER IF IT IS DESTROYED/SHREDDED/MELTED. THE AMMO MANUFACTURER ONLY USES THE EMPTY BRASS SHELLS TO RELOAD DIFFERENT CALIBERS - MAINLY .223 BULLETS. Georgia Arms owner says that he will have to lay off at least Half of his 60 workers, within 2 - 3 months if the DoD no longer sells their spent brass to him. He has 2 - 3 months inventory of shells to use. By summer - he's out. If he has to buy new manufactured brass shells, then the cost of ammunitioin to the buyer will double and triple...plus Obama wants to add a 500% tax on each shell. You can read the info and see the DoD letter to Georgia Arms here: The Shootist Site http://www.theshootist.net/ <http://www.theshootist.net/> Georgia Arms Site: http://georgia-arms.com/ <http://georgia-arms.com/> Loss of US jobs, control of ammunition by the new Obama adminis tration....liberalism at its best and on the way to socialism. When times get bad...and they will very soon...only the bad will have guns and ammo. This new "Obomanation" is going to make good citizens into crinimals by trying to take our guns and ammo.
-
good. where is that info? Lark.

well, guess what? everyone i associate with are all right wing extremists who are on an official gov't watch list. (i started to say everyone on this sight, but some guys voted for obama) and it's that goofy lookin' guy that was our governor a few weeks ago that writ it. if you even have an nra bumper sticker or anti abortion bumper sticker or christian bumper sticker, you're on the list. if you are anti illegal immigration, you're on the list. if you are a vet home from the war, you're on the list. (wondered how they were gonna vilify the vets, this is it. i knew they would do somethin', cuz vets are bad. according to the new obama dc) heck, if your kid is a boy scout, you're probly on it. read this whole thing. make sure and click on the link to the missouri highway patrol study, that was funded by janet and her buddies. basically, if you're a recently returned vet, someone who believes in the constitution, believes babies have rights, belong to the NRA, believe that laws should be enforced, all of em, don't think illegals should get a free pass, go to whatever church you want or have an opinion contrary to hussein obama, you're someone they need to watch. big brother janet is like the big eye in mordor i guess. spooky. this is gonna be even worse than i ever imagined. and i am one smart dude. dang, maybe texas is right, time to secede. dangit bill, i didn't tell him to saw it up. i've only seen a couple trapdoors that had enough finish on em to even count anyway. i was refering to inside of the barrel and the action. guns are easy to clean. i always hear about patina and from what i see it's what most folks call rust. the guys sellin' the guns call it patina. i'll think about the deal on the trapdoor. when i was a kid they were in about ever gun store i went in for maybe $50 or $75. same with model 1886's and 1895's, 1892's. the only ones that had any value were 94's. and then not a lot. you could buy a new one for $100. or less. i bought a few guns like that when i had enough cash and i could sneak it in without the ol' man knowin', but not near enough. i could retire rich today if i bought everyone i wanted. once i was in kelly's on mainstreet in safford and was closin' the deal on an '86, .45/70, for $50, and who walked in but my ol' man. didn't get that one. "those things are worthless!" (and they were at the time) but i know it'd bring a couple grand today. i wish i had every old gun i saw for sale when i was a kid. my first rifle was a 1894 .30 wcf, made in the '20's. hardly any blue. been shot a million times. paid 42 bucks for it and 11 shells at talley and son's in safford. had to dicker with ol' Irvin myself. he probly woulda just gave it to me if i'da hounddog eyed him a little. what a great ol' guy. shot my first buck and javelina with it. still pack it horseback a bunch. they don't make them old guns anymore. too bad too, because they are really good rifles. Lark.

thanks. i couldn't find the new one. i have a spring tag. hafta get out some buckshot. that's what i use. i useta love my .22 mag for turkeys. it was easy to teach them stubborn sobs that wouldn't come in a lesson. Lark.

oh well, at least he didn't vote for obama. Lark.

i sent mr napalitano an email and asked to be #1 on the list, seein' as how i meet the requirements. i also thanked her for leaving Az. not for leaving in the crap pile she did, just for leaving. Lark. -
red rabbit, the 2007-2008 regs say any firearm or bow and arrow for fall turkey. says nothing about shotguns and shot, like the spring regs. am i wrong? Lark.

well good. i think Jack will be a good addition to a pretty weak bunch. he was a sort of a game warden for a long time, helped out during elk season and such, and he knows how the system works. and he likes to hunt. he's a politician no doubt, but he's also fairly level headed and i think he'll be a lot better than a lotta guys. and dang sure better than about anyone on the commission now. been a long time since they added anyone to this bunch that i could really feel ok about supporting. hope he'll hold their feet to the fire and just not be an automatic yea vote. do it yourself. the trapdoor is a real simple action. take it apart, scrub the heck out of it, oil it and put it back together. i assume it's a .45/70? great guns and quite valuable. i'd love to have one. Lark.

You gotta be kidding me

the problem is the wagons are circled and folks are just trying to hang to what little they have left. it's time to hit hard in all directions at once and take this country back from foreignors and crappy politicians. Lark. -
one bit me once. broke his teeth off on my rockhard forearm and then died bleedin' to death after lickin' his butt so much to get the taste outta his mouth. i read the cat in the story was rabid. from my experience, a bobcat is more willing to fight than any other animal i've encountered. bears and lions included. man, i have some great bobcat stories. Lark.

c'mon guys, don't throw BS out there about the laws. be sure of what you're saying. someone may take it as true and get theirself in trouble. a 22 mag (WMRF= Winchester Magnum Rim Fire) is a rimfire. it is "NOT" a centerfire. up through last year, it is legal for javelina and fall turkey only, as far as big game. spring turkeys have to be shot with shotguns using shot only, now. "NO" rifles or shotguns with slugs are allowed. been that way for awhile. Lark.

Just bugs me

i mistook bullwidgeon for a javelina once, but i've never thought anyone looked like a turkey. we're gettin' it from all sides. what paper was this in? the worst thing about this is that now these kinda folks are gonna have an even bigger voice and the kinda crap they spew is gonna be taken as intelligent and main stream. libs can make up whatever kinda stats ya want and blast em out there, the media will print it like it's gospel. but try to make a conservative point and it's deemed blasphemy. what obama and his lackies are doing is creating a crisis. they've already done away with "terrorism". they won't even use the word. changed it to some other term that's more politically correct. unless it has to do with American citizens, especially if you're a returning vet. then you're a potential domestic terrorist. they need a smoke screen to cover up other plans, like making every criminal illegal alien a citizen, negotiating with iran, taking over private business, making criminals out of law abiding citizens who have a different opinion, just by issuing a memo, etc. this is just the start. with this memo they've given the greenlight to any police force that wants to use it. i've been buying reloading supplies and ammo like crazy. imagine what they headline would be if they invaded my home? or yours. you can expect this to get hotter and hotter, weekly. i see nappy has already decided he doesn't want anything to do with border control and has appointed a "border czar" so he can do things like keep tabs on anyone who likes to be free. all you obama voters need to slug yourself right in the mouth, every morning. ya hafta remember that if you're straight, male, conservative, christian, law abiding oh yeah, and white, or any of the things on the list, you can't be discriminated against. anything is fair. if you are the opposite of these things then everything is off limits and could be seen as insulting. geet used to it. this is the change that hussein's guys voted in. the stuff about putting vets on the watch list just really grates my guts. there is no common sense left. it ain't gonna be long until they start kickin' doors. Lark. -
i've put down a few bulls with a muzzleloader. i always prefered hornady tpx HP high velocity pistol bullets. .44 cal in a .50 and .45 cal in a .54. even at a couple hundred yards the bullet usually would be under the skin on the offside. with these new inlines that are specifically designed for sabots and have quick barrel twists, 200 yards should be a real reasonable distance. 250 even. put all the powder in it the gun and you can handle. these new pellets are slick. shoot it a bunch at 25 yard increments to see where it hits, note it and use a range finder. they make a lot of bullets specifically for muzzleloaders now. i don't know how the barnes and other solid copper bullets perform in one, but i know i don't like em in a rifle. but they should be ok. there is very little knockdown with a muzzleloader. i know that sounds wierd, but most every bull i've seen shot with one, never even acted hit at first. they run off and bleed to death. about like shooting one with a bow, as far as the reaction of the animal. this is with lungshots anyway. get comfortable with your gun, know it well and shoot whatever range you think is ok. good luck. Lark.

glad to hear that Steve is doing well. there have been a few men that really made a good impression on me when i was a kid, and he is one of em. i've always looked up to him. wirey ol' thing anyway. just so folks know, singleshot's dad is a retired professor and is a about as sharp about the outdoors as anyone i've ever known. i still use things he taught me about the indigeous species of the southwest on almost a daily basis. sharp guy and a true teacher. he's also a past president of the Arizona wildlife federation. and he is one helluva stock maker. no duplicating machines, just hand tools. he makes some of the most beautiful gun wood you've ever seen. one more thing on the .270. all of mine are real particular to cartridge overall length. don't make the bullet jump too far before it hooks up with the lands. you can really shrink your groups by tinkering with the amount of bullet "poke out". Lark.

sounds like a heck of a rifle. 54's are neat guns. sounds like you have a real special one. only thing i ever heard bad about em was the older ones had a 2 piece firing pin and it broke sometimes. the model is 70 is just an improved 54. 150's are ok, i know a couple guys who are serious deadly marksmen that use nothing but 150's. they actually will carry a little better at long ranges beause of the BC. i've never heard of a .270 with anything other than a 1 in 10" twist, so it should shoot them fine. i guess you know you can neck an '06 down to .270 real easy? i have a buncha that stuff i've made over the years. i've shot these 140's for long that i don't see any reason to change. how is that ol' man o' yours? tell him howdy for me. Lark.

in my favorite .270 i shoot 140 grain hornady interlock boat tail soft points with h4350 powder. i won't say how much because it is an overload and will jam any rifle with a short throat. probably blow out the primers too. but in my old long throated model 70 it works well. in my first back up .270, also a pre 64 model 70, i shoot 130 grain hornady interbonds with the same load of powder. i never liked 150 gr bullets very well because they are sorta slow, and i like hotrods. the partitions will work well, you just can't shoot em real fast. h4350 and h4831sc are both good powders in a .270. there are probably some that are even better now, but i settled on my load years ago and have never changed. i use magnum rifle primers. i even have one bullet seating die that never gets changed and is just for my 140 gr load. i've never had an interlock come apart and seldom do they shoot through an animal, leaving all the shock inside. usually find the bullet in a big flat wad under the skin on the offside. the interbonds tend to shoot through most deer. i have several other .270's that i shoot whatever 130 gr factory loads are the cheapest. winchester silvertips or remington core-lokts usually. Lark.

Winchester Model 1894 Hex barrel 30-30
.270 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
sounds like a cool gun, no matter what the story behind it is. back in the 60's PD built a new mercantile store in morenci and moved the stock from the old store in clifton to it. when they were moving things they found multiple cases of .30/30's, both winchesters and marlins, that they had bought in anticipation of a villa attack. pancho never made it there and they never distributed the rifles and they were forgotten about. they were new, still wrapped in grease paper. they put them on the rack and sold them first come first served for the price they were originally listed at. seems like $24. they didn't last long. i've seen several of them from that stash over the years. the marlins were incredible. octagonal barrels and case hardened actions. the wincesters i saw were octagonal barrels also, but the case hardening of the marlins was simply beautiful. this bunch of rifles you are talking about may be part of or kin to the same deal. i don't know all the details about the PD guns, but i know it had something to do with villa and his band of border trash. Lark. -
Unbelievable Screw-up!!!! G&F does it again!!!

i used the same one last year and nobody bought it either. Lark. -
well, after about 50 years of shovelin', swingin' a sledge, maul and ax. ropin'. bow shootin'. throwin' curveballs. crawlin' in boilers and various other crappy places. i finally have to have a joint replaced. monday at 6 am. total joint replacement, right shoulder. titanium ball on the arm bone (it'll make ya flinch when the dr says he's gonna saw yer ball off!) teflon socket on the shoulder blade. they even hafta do some work on my collar bone. i ain't lookin' foward to it but i'm sick of not bein' able to do anything and sick o' the pain. see ya in a few weeks. Lark.
