there was a dead doe on i-25 northbound just south of springer in october when i was headed to colorado to hunt pronghorns. schocked me to see it there. Lark.

i don't think it's an albino, no pink eyes, but it is one cool lookin' deer. great photo. Lark.

i'd say muleyman and gameholler, but i hate redundancy. and thanks amanda, i love you too. i won't list the 7mm/08 because it's good for laughs. can't believe i missed this thread. been spendin' too much time readin' about serial killers i guess. Lark.

i use a pig call that sounds like "GET THE heck OUTTA HERE YOU STINKIN' MUSKHOGS!! RUN OFF NOW!!" takes even more of the chance of me shootin' one away. i'm also appalled to know that amanda's feet look like javelinas. did you have on fuzzy slippers or what? fuzzy stinky slippers? Lark.

tell us something about him. all i know is what muleyman said about him being stupid for camping near a tree and taking taxpayer money in his paycheck and all that garbage. for some reason i think he didn't know what he was talkin' about. give us a little obituary about skylar. tell us some good stuff. rub muleyman's face in it and let us know more about a good guy. this whole deal about the siwashed hunters and stuff has been something we have all been able to draw a little inspiration from has given everyone a rallying point, as children of the land. well, all of us except poor muleyman. can you imagine what it's like inside a brain like that? like i said, makes us all look better. Lark.

screw him. every place needs at least one guy everybody hates and who isn't good for anything. it makes everyone look and feel better about themselves. gameholler was even feelin' better about usin' a 7mm/08. even a guy that uses one o' them is better than muleyman. but i was serious about feeling bad for the stock family and serious about everbody needing to be prepared. 99.9% of the time a hunting trip is fairly mundane as far as danger. but sometimes things go bad and a guy needs to be ready in case it does. first aid kit, matches, food, warm clothes, water, a guy needs to be sure he has everything he needs to make sure he gets back home. ya never know when lightning may strike. literally. Lark.

i ain't never found anything that would cover up the musk bag after taste. that's why i never take ammo, use a bent barreled rifle with no firirng pin, wear xray glasses while i hunt and seldom leave camp during pig season. i won't even shoot squirrels or doves or jackrabbits anymore, because i don't like to eat em. i don't like predators either, but i don't consider it wrong to not eat coyotes. i don't think there is a way to make pig even ok. one time some o' the kids in camp shot some young sows and the last day we were there we were about outta bacon and sausage and stuff for breakfast so i sliced up several backstraps and cooked it with what we had left. the kids put the chowbainy on it and never batted an eye. but they will eat about anything. i shot one in my ol' mans cornfield once. a youngster too. had it hickory smoked and sugar cured with some hogs. it was ok while ya ate it, but it still had that musk bag after taste. pigs is rank. yuk. Lark.

i apply just so there is less chance of muleyman getting drawn. Lark.

let him hang around. look how good he makes the rest of us look. poor guy was butt raped repeatedly by all his drunken mom's boyfriends and now he's trying hard to get his self respect back. only he's so low he can't bring himself up so tries to bring everyone else down. poor kid. musta been a real traumatic deal. remember his handle is muley man and mules are all half jackass. i really like that dink muley he has for his photo. i have 4 bigger racks than that hangin' in my barn because, unlike muley man as a youngster, they are too little to mount. where'd you get that one? buy it from my buddy kirt? now crawl back into your bottle o' cheap scotch and drink up some more so you'll feel better about yourself. good to have ya back. Lark. here's where you wright stuff about me bein' kirt's buddy and about cal coziah bein' a poacher and then you can make up somethin' about me or my family or my friends. please hurry. sorta like some o' the punks i've had the misfortune of knowing over the years that like to call ya a name as they run off or drive away. i love it when folks throw dirt in their own faces. oh yeah, have a merry Christmas. layin' drunk alone. i never had anybody hurt me with words.

don't remember the exact date, but it was a week or so before Christmas in '67. it snowed 18" in the gila valley. i saw some pigs about a week before the storm. didn't see another one for a couple years. i've never seen a big herd since. used to see a lot of pig herds of over 30. one had 75. i don't think i've seen a herd since then with a dozen pigs. i've read about the storm bill mentioned. it was a bad deal. a lot of guys died in it. seems like one of the azgfd honchos was a victim of it. i've been caught in the snow. it ain't fun and is spooky. i never heard about anyone dieing in this storm. there is an article in the paper right now that says all were well and accounted for. glad it turned out well. when i heard it on the news while travelling this morning i thought about the other storms and the problems. glad serach and rescue jumped on it and that folks planned for it. New Winchester Model 70's(FN)
.270 replied to BeardownAZ's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
the fn is a well made rifle. don't own one and haven't shot one. have looked them over a lot. they seem to be at least as well made as the last 70's made by usra. supposed to be better. about all i can say is that they aren't a pre-64. few rifles were ever built that well. and there are differences between the pre-64 and the new ones. the new extractors aren't near as well made. a lot the parts are cast and then machined, instead of being machined from solid stock. but just about every rifle made these days are made the same. but all in all, they are a pretty good rifle and i would like to have one. i have a buncha pre-64's and a couple of the newer controlled round feeders. these fn's seem to be between the 2 other models as far as their constructions. i don't even consider the post 64 push feeders as model 70's. they say that on the barrel but when they went to cast recievers, clip extractors, sweated bolt handles, cheap stocks and cheesy checkering, the model 70 died for a long time. if you make enough predictions, some of them will be right eventually. this is a good article about what the gov't was saying in '75. 'course i'm jest a inggernut rednek that don't know much, but i figgerd it wuz a gud artukl. it's just the weather. it changes by the minute. yesterday was as wet and gloomy as any day i've spent in oregon, washington or even alaska. but today is as pretty a day as they get. one thing weather always does, it changes. check out this article. it's a good one. and it's written simply enough that even a democrat can understand without obama 'splainin' it. talked to a friend yesterday morning as he was driving from showlow to alpine. said it was pretty bad then. he called later and said he made it home but that he wouldn't be leaving for awhile. the news this morning said that flag got 20 inches and that the old record for whatever time span it was was 5 inches. must be a good snow. we got over a half inch of rain at the rancho neglecto. my mule told he to get out his snorkel if it rained anymore. good to see it wet. been a long time. Lark.

there's a lot more to it than just 50 wolves. when you have a pack of wolves in your area, you can't do anything about it and you can't do much about other predators either. can't use hounds to catch a lion or bear because the wolves hear them and end up in the hound pack, killing your dogs. you can't use dogs to work cattle because of the same problem. and when the wolves in your area, you have to be there constantly to protect your cattle and try to move them to where they ain't. gov't trappers can't do anything because of the probability of catching a wolf. and wolves don't just kill something and eat on it until it's gone. tney'll kill everything they can when they can. may never consume any of it. i think they said they wanted 100 wolves. the way wolves hunt, that can add up 5,000 to 10,000 animals per year, conservatively. in a fairly small area. guess what's gonna happen to deer and elk tags in wolf country? they are gonna go away so the wolves can eat. i don't know what the azgfd's official opinion of the elk herd in places like the rim around uppper eagle and the blue is, but i know that folks that are in that country a lot don't see many elk there anymore. right now, you can't hardly find a deer, elk or bison in yellowstone. their numbers are down around 85-90% from pre-wolf introduction numbers. it's hard to go to yellowstone and see any kind of wildlife now. some biologists are concerned as to what kind of effect it's going to have on other predators there now, like grizzlies, black bears and coyotes, because of the lack of game. they are omnivorous, but still need protein in their diet. this is all in addition to the money this program costs. so far it's over $1 million per wolf. how much wildlife management could be done in Az and new mex for that kinda money? no matter how ya slice it, this mexican wolf program is not good for Az or new mexico. not just ranchers are getting screwed. it will get us all before it's over if we let it keep going. Lark.

i've spent a lot of time studying this situation. it ain't just ranchers gettin' screwed. if you take the numbers provided by the usfw about where they want the wolf numbers to be, there won't be anymore hunting allowed because all deer and elk are going to be is wolf food. there aren't enough elk and deer in any of the units to support the proposed wolf population, much less allow hunting too. i know that because i can add. used the numbers right ouf the usfw stuff. it was all in the paper at one time too. and there is money to compensate for wildlife loss, but they never get any of it. unless you have a video of a wolf killing a cow, you won't get compensated. they'll find some reason that it wasn't a wolf. and if they kill a horse, which are generally much more valuable than cattle, you don't get anything. because they're considered pets. same with a working dog. my cousin figures he's lost several hundred head to wolves. he's been compensated for a dozen or so. you wouldn't believe some of the crap the wolf people have pulled. folks can bash ranchers all they want for now. they're just first on the list to be ran off the land. me and you are next. wolf recovery has nothing to do with it. it is about power and control. just one more tool to pry folks off the land. everyone too. the birdwatchers, hikers and treehuggers will be last, but they will be eliminated from using the land also, if this is allowed to run it's entire course. the people who administer this program are liars of the worst order and if you believe anything they say you're a fool. the usfw manufacters whatever data they need to support their agenda. and their agenda is to push you and me off the land and eliminate hunting, fishing, farming, ranching, logging, mining, and eventually even treehugging. look the wolf recovery up north. it succeeded. they got the population to about twice what they said their target was. better results than they ever hoped for. (the reason they did is because they used real live wild wolves and not pen raised part dog curs) and what did they do? sue and sue and sue to keep control of the program, and the land, and tried to not let the states manage it, as was supposedly the original intent. like global warming, health care and cap and tax and any other thing the commies than think of, it's about control. of me and you. and you best pay attention to it. Lark.

while at the gunshow today i saw a remington stainless 700, synthetic stock, 7mm ultra mag, muzzlebrake, leupold rings and a big variable burris scope, $595. and the guy was wantin' to deal. he was in the big building that is farthest to the east, go in the west door and he was the first table, right in the doorway on the northside of the entrance. anybody looking for such a rifle, this is an incredible buy. anyway, thought somebody might be interested. Lark.

ain't a very big buck, 3 1/2 year old 3x3 muley. but one shot at 565 yards did it. the new barrel, scope and rangefinder looks like it's gonna work. Farkiller is back. c'mon elk season. oh yeah, we got 5 outta 6 on the hunt. my poor ol' octagenerian pop didn't get one. got a shot, but no deer. Lark.

what's the formula for calculating the base of a right triangle if you know the length and angle of the hypotenus? i have an old geometry book in the attic but don't wanna crawl up there. if i'm gonna do this long range stuff i gotta get me a little caclulator i guess. c'mon, somebody out there knows the answer. where's Mr. Fuller when i need him? Lark..

last sunday, 900 yards, one dead bull. there's a little more to the story, but one shot in the neck did it. made a good shot, but i ain't at all happy about it. my kids said i can't use it anymore tho. too far to pack it out. after i get all this angle stuff figgerd out, i won't even hafta leave my house to shoot stuff. is it ok to shoot across units? Lark.
-
i use the 3-4-5 all the time buildin' stuff. but when you're shooting a really long ways, you need to know as exact as possible where to aim. when you get that far out just being off 10 or 20 yards can make ya miss. bullets are going almost straight down way out there. i know that next time i'm usin' FARKILLER, THE RESURECTION, i'm gonna be more readier. thanks for all the info. Lark.
