JUST LOOKED, THEY'RE UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lark.
-
be very aware of your dogs whereabouts if "Chef" says it's a good lookin' dog. he cooks some wierd stuff sometimes. and never waiit until your dog develops a personallity to name it. that's why my last 2 were named "YOU SORRY #@$%^&* YOU CRAPPED ON THE FLOOR AGAIN" and "YOU ATE MY HAT AGAIN YOU PIECE O' @$#%" you'll think o' somethin'. you could name her CW.com and call her dot fer short. Lark.

"magnum" loads have more powder in em. look at the brass base. the higher the brass, the more powder it has in it. 3 inch shells typically have a little more powder and a little more shot that 2 3/4 inch. same with the newer 3 1/2 inch shells. they're a little hotter still than 3 inchers. your gun will be safe to shoot any factory load in whatever chamber it has. you guys ever take a good look at the folks that drive them things? ain't none of em got a full stringer o' fish. and their bumpers are all covered with greenpeacin', wolf lovin', global warmin', obama worshippin' stickers. they are morons. what i love is how they thing they're savin' the world with their little hybrids when studies say you'd hafta drive one about 20 years in order to make up for the amount of pollution that goes into the batteries. and the batteries are only good for about 5 years. but like i said, they're morons so it don't much matter. Lark. -
hey, all i can do is tell ya what's goin' on. up to you to verify. if ya don't believe me all ya gotta do is look. it's right there on the azgfd website. really, i wouldn't josh about a deal like that. Lark.

i just looked. the results are up! they really are this time. amazing. i finally got a sheep tag!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Lark.
-
i heard it on the radio this morning. i'm thinking there is a lot more to it than the azgfd wants to admit. seems like i read they think there are only like 6 jags north of the border. some real small number what ever it is. and they go and snare one, collar him up, and then retrap him and put him under. ain't they endangered? the azgfd hire jack kervorkian? if he was so old and sick, why did they put a collar on him? i think jags are pretty cool. neat as heck in fact. but i really disagree with trying to make some sort of sanctuary for them in the U.S. tho. they are a jungle animal that thrives in the tropic swamps. the ones we have here are transient animals on the very absolute northern edge of their range. there have never been more than a handfull in the states at anyone time. if they tried to do some relocation or reintroduction deal it would be a worse story than the wolf program. but the ones that we do have deserve to be protected reasonably. sending someone to snare one of the few we have and then letting it turn into the ridiculous story it has sounds criminal to me. i don't care what kind of story they have about what they were trying to do, they were there to snag this jag. i hope whoever the employee is and his supervisors are, are held accountable and i hope it is painfull for em. there was no call for the events that led up to this old jag getting the needle. a "collard" shirt? why not mustard greens or cabbage? oh wait, this is casey, he probly means "collared". then again, he might really have a shirt made outta collards too. and i really really love collards too. but i'd ruther have a bacon or a jerky shirt myself. ya gotta use them 'e's' casey. just like them commas. member? by the way amanda, if you wanna really sell a lotta shirts you could put a pitcher o' me on em. all the girls would want several. ya won't even hafta split it or nothin', you can have it all. in fact, they'd probly buy em by the box, so's they could cut out my pitcher and make masks for them ugly dudes they're married to, to wear all the time. it's a curse bein' so foxy. it really is. Lark. -

a good rule of thumb is .0010" (10/1000's) off the lands. if your freebore is where you say it is you might see some poor accuracy with the bullet as far back as your book says. i usually like bullets to just touch the lands. in small calibers i've had some problems with leaving the bullet in the barrel when you extract a live round from the chamber tho, so i usually load .22 cal .0050" off the lands. a lot of target shooters used to load their rounds maybe .0010" long and let the bolt seat it. that way they had positive lockup in the lands each shot should be real close to exact. but you have to make sure you shoot it everytime you load a round and it makes it a little hard to close the bolt. if you can get reasonably close to the lands you should be able to achieve good accuracy. the trick is to get the bullet into the lands soon enough that it can't start any kind of wobble and throw off accuracy. with the long neck of a .270 that isn't too hard to accomplish. reloading books give you a place to start. this is a lot like the .300 mag discussion. one thing to do is to shoot some at what the book recommends and see if they're accurate. 3.4+" COL seems a little long, but i don't know for sure how your rifle is made. all bullets have a different taper too, and this will affect where they catch the lands. i shoot 140 gr hornadys at 3.355 COL. this is a real tight fit with several thousandths of the bullet in the lands. makes a lot of pressure, but it is real accurate in my rifle. my rifle has also been shot several thousand times and i'm sure there is some erosiion moving the lands out some. it is also an old winchester and they seem to all have long throats. the newer rugers and remingtons seem to have really short throats and have to loaded accordingly. i'd load some at what the book says and see how they shoot and then adjust from there if needed. one thing to keep in mind, if you get them too long you could end up with problems getting them to fit in the magazine. Lark.

i say get a quail sittin' on a nekked woman. Lark. -
it's been my experience that some guns are kinda tricky to figure out where the lands start. i can't imagine a rifle with a throat as long you say yours is that would hit with any kind of bullet. not saying it ain't so, it just seems odd. i'd find somebody who could get you a good measurement on it somehow, either with a borescope or just somebody that really knows what they're doing. there's a lotta stuff that can go on in that little area, and it's all real critiical to accuracy. that or just sell it and get a .270. good luck. Lark.

i use h4831sc hogdon powder. loads a lot easier than 4831. i use hornady 165 gr btsp interlocks going 3250 fps. i don't give anybody but family powder grains because i use a lotta powder and don't want somebody using my load and having problems because of it. you'll hafta figure that out. when my kids bought me this new scope it was set up for 3250 fps so i actually had to drop my loads a little. i was spittin' em out at about 3350. there are bullets with better BC's and stuff, but i've always used the hornadys, i have never had one come apart and they have always been very accurate. my son can shoot inside an inch at 300 yards with it. you can't do much better than that. with my old eyes, wore out body and new shoulder i wobble a little after a dozen or so rounds so i get my kids to do the fine tunin'. the guy that did the barrel gave me a break in procedure and i followed it to the letter. don't know how much it had to do with it, but this is one shootin' sob. i tinkered with it in pig camp last weekend and smoked a rock less than a foot in diameter at 765 yards. just on the bypods on a camp table. no sand bags or other stuff that helps shoot better. i love it. if i would have known they were getting me this scope i might have had it set up for 180's but as it is it wouldn't make any difference. this thing is amazing. it oughta be illegal. heck, i can kill stuff so far away i hafta put salt on my bullets so the aminal don't spoil before i get to it. i still think there is something goofy with your throat. i think you may not be getting a good read on it. it can be kinda tricky to figure it out. good luck. Lark

huh? i miss somethin'? Lark.

how are you determining where the lands really are? if that's the case it sounds like a really screwed up chamber. if you determine that this is actually the case, take it to a gunsmith and have him move the barell shoulder forward a little and re-ream the chamber. i always paint the bullet in a few loaded rounds with a magic marker and see where the lands touch. they will scrape off a little of the ink. and then adjust from there. i have a rifle that sounds a lot like yours and it shot great, until i wore out the barrell. shoots even better now with a new schnieder. i shoot 165's. if you don't have enough bullet in the neck, you can have some real heartburn with bullets in the magazine coming out of the case. i'd do the magic marker deal and if you really have that much throat i'd have somebody measure it. you're gonna have some real problems with accuracy and getting loaded rounds to fit in the magazine if you have a throat that is that far outta spec. Lark.

You be the POLITICIAN
.270 replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
if my neighbor gets sick i'm gonna feel bad about it, but i don't understand why i should have to pay for it. i don't understand why anyone should have to pay for someone else getting sick. or not working or getting a crappy loan on their house or any of the other stupid stuff that obama wants to enable people to stay on the dole. the entire socialized system isn't for me. i'll take care of myself and don't want anyone else to have to or want to. i have my own way of paying for health care. but if this obama crap happens then the gov't is gonna have the say in what i can have done, who does it, who pays for it, when i can get it done, etc. and no matter what i'll have to buy into it. there isn't any socialized medicine that i want any part of. Lark. -

Lark.
