    Hunting Celebrities

i guess some folks have short memorys. a few years ago Az got hammered in the law suit by uso. a law suit that would have destroyed hunting for residents of this state and nevada. and they were gonna go after all the other western states in short order. wadell, the primos bunch, real tree, zumbo, jeff foxworthy, practically all these "hunting actors" were big supporters of uso and the law suit. several of them benefitted from the subsequent special draw that Az was forced to have that provided additional permits to these celebrities and others that used uso's application service. and it wasn't just these actors. there were Az outfitters lined up with uso and the safari club was too. even the nra rode the fence, leaning a little to the uso side, on the deal. there was a lot of speculation that some of these guys helped uso with funding to support the suit. when the firestorm hit and the azgfd, uso, and others saw the seriousness of the sportsmen in this state there were a lot of the celebrity actor hunters that said they cut ties with uso and stuff, but they still used them, especially in other states. and a lot of them still hunted here, only with Az outfitters that uso contracted with because they were pretty scared of even being in the state. they wouldn't even sell uso gas in williams. the uso guides took the signs off their trucks. it was a pretty time for everyone. luckily a bill got passed that stopped all that crap in future years. problly the only time harry reid was ever beneficial to folks that actually pay taxes. but the intent was there and a bunch of these guys that are heros to some, were in on it. and they still continue to use uso. i have a real hate for the guys that were involved. plus waddel is just a disgusting pile o' crap and i love to hate him. if you twirll him around a couple times real fast he's lost. i try real hard to not support anyone who was on uso's side. i know what little i can do ain't gonna make one bit o' difference when there are so many folks that think these guys are some sorta gods. but it makes me feel better. Lark.

    Hunting Celebrities

set it up. cage fight. only 1 rule. only the winner lives. no ref and nobody on the outside has a key. i might be beat up and old but i never had a day in my life i couldn't beat the heck outta him. if waddel kills anything he's guided to it, it is gutted and skinned by, his food is cooked by, his bed is made by, etc, etc his guide. he's a puke like 90% of the rest of em. i was watching one the other day with roger raglin, who i kinda like, and he said he almost died from guilian barre disease. spooky stuff. had to learn how to walk and talk again. if waddel ever got that stuff you would never know it, somebody does everthing for him anyway now. Bears and Deer

contrary to what most folks think, bears don't eat a lotta meat. even when they do make a kill, they ain't actually killing it for the meat. they might eat a little right then, but very little. then they leave it for a few days and come back and roll it around lick all the maggots off it and leave and come back when it has more maggots on it. i've seen em do this a buncha times. sometimes they will eat a lotta of the carcas, but most of the time they act like the maggots are the prize. and they are fast. they can tear up calves of alll kinds. i don't think i've seen where i thought one killed a fawn. i'm sure they do, but never have seen one. a fawn won't grow many maggots. Huntin' Jokes

one time these 2 youngsters wuz axin' me about huntin' and i was tellin' em about this man killin' lion i hunted down once. me and 2 other guys, 3 mules and 14 hounds. i told em how it killed all the mules, most o' the dogs then it killed one o' the other guys. then it got the other one. but i kept after it. sneakin' and trackin'. then i come around a bend in the canyon and this lion jumped out at me just feet away and he went "ROOOAAAR". and i said "well, i just $h!t in my pants." one o' the youngsters said "i'd $h!t my pants too if a man killin' lion jumped out like that" and i said, "no not then, i $h!t my pants just now when i said ROOOOAAR!". Elk bugles

sometimes you hafta sound like a bit ol' bull in order to get a reaction from the other bulls. but once you get in sorta close, cow callin' is what works. and learn to cow call. these stinkin' duck call deals they use on tv sound really stupid. sound like a rusty gate. cows make all kindsa different sounds, especially when they're close. you need to be learn to imitate them and have a sorta sweet sound to your cow calls. personally, i can use a triple reed call a lot better than anything else and can make cow sounds and sound like about any kinda bull. can't make the thin reeds work for some reason. and get a good tube. i use an old abe and sons with a diaphram call through it. 17. that's obamanation's answer to Az's predicament. they need to landmine the border. all these jackasses wanting to boycott Az, we need to boyucott DC and obama and take care of this crap ourselves. Lark.
  18. depends on how your barrel is twisted. 6.5/.264 cal. is real twist sensitive. with the swede i think i'd use a lighter bullet. Lark.
  19. just get a leica to start with. i bought the top of the line leupold and ended up taking it back. 350 was about it most of the time with it. really dissapointing. get a good one right off. miy leica will read 1300 off of shiny stuff. will do over 1000 on about anything. sometimes way over 1000. or you can really spend a lot of money and get a swarovski. Lark.

New Mexico Blue Range Wilderness Unit 23

main thing you need to be is tough. that is rough country. there good places to camp between the stateline and the highway on the blue post office road and then down by alma mesa too. it's a skinny area there, but there are some good bulls. on to the south of alma mesa there is some good elk country too. cow calls work real well. Lark.

New Mexico Blue Range Wilderness Unit 23

there will be big bulls in there for sure in september. as far as packing in, you can probly just camp at the end of a road and ride in each day, or even walk. be dang nice to have a horse to pack em out with. white streak mountain and all that country has big bulls in it. i know a guy that got one on the Az side 2 years ago that goes near 390. it ain't like some areas with huge herds of elk, but there are big bulls in fair numbers and you can hunt it. as far as feed, pack in a bag o' pellets. water will be your main concern. Lark.

    What Causes Seeps?

if it's in the desert, look for a cottonwood or seep willow or about any kind of trees or bushes that may be a little out of place. if there is just a little water, there will be some sort of vegitation that is a little out of place from the rest of the flora. in the fall is a real good time to scout for a seep or spring, because the leafs change colors and really show up, especially if your in a place with a lot of cedars or scrubby pines. Lark.
