I have an early hunt in 36B. Oct. 29th to Nov 1st. If anyone is down there, I'll be in a green 97 F-150. Good luck.

Being new to coues hunting and the area, I been trying to talke to people about there hunts. The more I talk to people, I've heard that a spotting scope can be invaluable for looking accross canyons. I've never used one as I grew up hunting Blacktails in the thick Oregon brush. What are some things to look at while purchasing a spotting scope? Magnification, durability, cost? What specifications seem to out weight the other? Any information would be great.

I'm hunting coues for the first time here in Arizona. I only have a 30-06 that I have used before for mulies and others. Does this seem to be too much gun for these llittle deer? I don't have the funds right now to get something a little small with a flatter trajectory, so is this gun fine or are there some things that I should woory about. couesnewbie

Being new to the region, I don't have a lot of knowledge of the terrain. I drew for the 36B hunt and was wondering if there are some good topo maps to get started in planning and scouting that area. Is there a forest service map? Are the standard topo maps good? What scaling is good to get started? Very detailed or general overall? If anyone has some of there own thoughts on this let me know. Thanks for all of the good info. I can see the point about binos being easier on the eyes. I'll have to get a pair and run and scout out 36B a bit the next few months as I have never hunted there before.

What is something usuable for a first timer, but not so expensive? Is a zoom good to have? AZpackhorse- hunted Willamette valley around same and the hills east of 1-5 north of Eugene

Be nice. You can read all over this forum for tips and methods to hunt, but if you just moved to the area, like myself, you have to learn general areas to hunt. There are books about coues hunting (see bookstore on home page)for tactics, but information about general areas to hunt, that is going to come from other hunters.
