Very nice looking antelope, and Congrats to you and your father! I enjoyed the excitement in the tone of your story. I'd be curious to know what he scores if you guys put a tape on him. It's not what makes an antelope special by any means, but will help future hunters who read your thread on here next year. You have cool scouting photos and field photos that, combined with a score, could be a nice example to use for judging. Nice story and thank you for sharing. -
I really enjoyed reading your story over coffee this morning. That is an awesome, awesome looking bull, and your set of photos really made it a good read. Congrats to you and your father, and thank you for sharing with the site.

Thank you for the info. It's certainly a special accomplishment.

Is there a place or someone who has an idea how long this list is?? Any documentation? I'd be curious to know the number. I know someone on it and have only ever met one other. Not trying to misguide the thread.. Congrats on a great draw and I hope you have the hunt of a lifetime!!

I messed one up one time....or at least the other guy thought so. A few years ago, I was scouting a new unit for an upcoming hunt. I was checking all roads and having a blast. As I was cruising through the pines on a marked forest road (not two-track), I pulled over to take a leak. After I finished, I noticed some recent monsoon rain water had collected in a (what I would call) soon-to-be-dry retention puddle in the middle of the road. As I walked up to it, I heard a 'hey' and looked up to see a guy sitting a tree stand directly above it. The only reason I didn't see him, was because its the last place I thought I'd see someone....on the side of the road in a pine. Anyways, I waved apologetically, but he continued to swing his feet in disgust. I would be surprised if he shot a deer that archery season. I have another story but I'm not sure what category to put it under... In the same unit a couple of years later, I was archery deer, turkey, and bear hunting. There was a very old two-track loggin' road that went for about a mile into a deep canyon behind my camp. For two days I walked that road and the neighboring ridges, without any other hunters. I saw a lot of game, and chased turkeys everywhere. Well on the last morning, I left camp decked out in my usual face-paint (gotta go marine when archery turkey hunting) and started my hunt. About 15 minutes down into the canyon, I hear the 'put-put' of a car idling down the road that I had walked in on. Through the trees I could see it was an old CJ-5 jeep with 6! guys in it. They all had bows in their hands, and personified the term 'road hunter'. I decided to mess with them, so I stalked my way back up to the edge of the road, from the canyon ledge I had been working. I stood, statuesque, next to some 6' jackpines right on the roads edge and waited for the jeep. As it rolled by me at less than 3 feet, the driver and front passenger did not see me....but one of the guys on the back sure did. I still laugh to this day at the scared reaction he let out

This is already a fun thread! The family has two new 'horses in the stall' .... both stock 3rd gen Duramax (LBZ's), under 45,000 miles. No Mod's yet, but I think some are soon to come after hunting season. Btw.. Speedy, the guy in the Audi A8 couldn't pass me coming up out of the Salt River Canyon even though I had a 22' travel trailer

Hey Guys, I have a couple of 4X4 Honda 420's that I need to get serviced. Any of you use an ATV shop that you really trust that does good work?? I'm located in the southeast Valley and would like to stay on the East side of town. Thanks for the recommendations in advance, 2FC

This is an interesting thread, and I agree with the aforementioned comment, that it is an example of the classiness of the CWT membership. I would like to share my perspective on the trophy hunter topic, as it has been an evolution of mindset over the past 15 years. Growing up ( 8-15 years old) harvesting any coues buck was the accomplishment in our family. Not that it isn't today, but 15 years ago, we did not hunt with binoculars on tripods or use scouting cameras. Flush 'em in the brush..... As I got into my teens, and harvested my first buck (a little forky fantex), the addiction set in. I studied them more in books, learned how to hunt with tripods and swaros, and found CWT.com. At the age of 16, I was listening to a seasoned hunter around the fire on a sheep hunt, and he said something that struck a chord, " If you want to kill big animals, then you need to hunt one or two animals". Trophy hunters know the bucks or bulls they are looking for, and they don't settle for less.....(enter Becker) I took those words to heart and over the next seven years, I pretended to be a 'trophy hunter'...who only was going for big, ole' bucks. But I lost sight of the big picture. Over those seven years I passed up several nice bucks (80's caliber deer) pursuing bigger 100" deer,... I would glass the bucks up but would not make moves on them, and when I found bigger bucks I was never successful in harvesting them. Last year I realized what I was missing... experience. I tried to go from a forky to a booner with nothing in between. These animals are unbelievably challenging to harvest, and I am going to need the intangibles to eventual get my big bucks someday. I need to put stalks on smaller bucks, and see how they react. I need to shoot more deer to learn how to control my breathing in that moment of adrenaline. I need the confidence, that comes with continued success, so I can be in the right mindset when I am after 110" deer. So now I take the 'PR' approach... I'm looking to harvest a personal record each year. Last year I did that with a 72" three point on opening morning. I am still scouting, putting up cameras, backpacking in, and doing the right things to find big deer; but if I see a mid 80's buck this year on opening morning, I will be pulling the trigger.

Hey Guys, I put this truck up for sale on here last summer, but had to take it down because I needed it unexpectedly....It's back on the market for good. I'm placing it up for sale here for a couple of days, before posting to Craigslist. Hope to sell it to a CWT member. Details: - 1990 Ford F250 XLT Lariat 200,000 miles with a 460 V8 - 4X4 with locking hubs - AC blows COLD - Brand new transmission put in last year for just under $3K - Set of BF Goodrich A/T 265/75/R16 with spare - Tow package with trailer break control under steering column - Had Ultimate Electronics install a stereo system that includes an Alpine Deck and Rockford-Fosgate Amp - Heavy duty rubber bed mat - Windows tinted - Bed rails and tail gate are lined with diamond-plating - Interior is clean This truck was given to me by my Grandfather as my first truck in 2005. Both of my sisters and I used it as a to-and-from-school vehicle through high school. This truck has only 35,000 miles on it in the last 8 years with regular upkeep. I'm putting my 1997 F350 460 out to pasture and want to get a newer diesel. Over the past few months I have been doing a lot of research, talking to mechanics, and test driving; and still I'm not sure what truck to get. Now I am coming to you guys for some opinions. And that's just what I want ....opinions. This is a polarizing topic (Ford, Chevy or Dodge) so I understand the variance in answers that I might receive. This is what I use my truck for: 1) Towing a travel trailer and quad/wood trailer into the woods for hunting season 2) Towing a 10,000 lb boat back and forth to the lake during the summer 3) Towing 2000 lbs of tree branches and yard trimmin's to the dump every month I want my truck to handle the tow-load and still be able to do 65 mph going up hill with the ac running in the summer time. I'm looking for a truck with no more than 75K miles on it..so that puts me in the more recent-year models. Everyone I know who has a Dodge swears by the Cummins. My mechanic is a Ford guy but says you can't beat an Allison transmission in a Chevy. I'm obviously a Ford guy but am afraid after the wide-spread problems associated with the 6.0 L produced from 2003-07. From what I read, the newer 6.4 and 6.7 Powerstrokes are good engines? I know all three make good trucks and that you can always get a lemon...so putting that aside, please give me your opinions with details and reasons. Thanks guys for the input in advance

Dad and I picked our bucks up from Clay at Mogollon Taxidermy this weekend. We are pumped to have them hanging. These are the first mounts that Clay has done for us and they turned out fantastic! Very regal. I took the best photos that I could with little natural light but they don't do the details justice... Here's the link to the field photos http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/37393-memorable-hunt/?do=findComment&comment=351637 Thanks Clay!

Thanks for looking and for the comments. Trophyhunter: We both already have framed photos and are planning on hanging them near the bucks. Your suggestion is on par with our plan.

Here is a good article posted today on Fox News' webpage. I always enjoy reading stories that celebrate our soldiers for their sacrifice. http://www.foxnews.com/us/2013/04/06/chaplain-gets-medal-honor-62-years-after-death/

Congratulations on finding your buck... As mentioned above, I'm sure its bitter-sweet. Finding his skull and immortalizing on a mantel or wall will give the buck the respect he deserves (better than under a log somewhere for coyotes to gnaw on).

Thank you for posting this video. It's outstanding! The Rocky and/or Californian (not sure which) that the hunter takes with a bow at the 3 minute mark is awesome. The ram shown at the 6:10 mark made me go "Whoah!" sitting in my chair at work. Fun to watch.... -

This made my Day. Love Godwin and the Ping umbrella' and the dude riding the duck decoy! Thanks for sharing -
Grong thanks for the reply. Great review. Like you, what I loved about the pack was the sensibility by which it was designed...straps everywhere for the hunter who carries a-lot of stuff. Your list of hunting essentials matches mine, so I'm even more positive that the comfort I feel walking around the house will translate to the field. Best of luck on your next shed trip. -2FC
