darrcolburn replied to darrcolburn's topic in Long Range Shooting
I have looked at the Zeiss. The problem with that scope is you are limited to one revolution on the turret. -

Sweet Setup! Hope you are doing well. -
If you guys can figure out the details and want to split the tripod and head thats fine. I really don't want to ship.

I would like to keep the tripod together and sell as one. Thank you.

I have a Vortex Viper 4-16X44 HS-T rifle scope with box and everything it came with plus Butler Creek flip up scope caps. This scope is in excellent shape and less than a year old. Glass perfect and the scope tracks great. Tiny rub mark in one spot (see pic) but other than that it looks brand new. Prefer face to face and will not ship at this time. Located in the north valley. You can't beat these scopes for the money! $450 firm and not interested in trades. Thank you for looking. Darr Colburn (602) 284-1722

I have 25 points for antelope going into the draw next year. I have applied for points the last couple of years. We have only had one antelope tag in my family in 30 years of applying with multiple family members. I need to shoot an antelope in AZ but I have a hard time getting excited about them. Seems like the quality of hunts and antelope taken has gone down a little the past few years. I know a couple of giants are killed every year though. I have waited this long so waiting a few more years doesn't bother me. I don't see things getting better though in the next few years due to the increase in predation and tag numbers. Do the serious antelope hunters think the quality of bucks has gone down in the last few years and do you see it getting better in the near future? Thanks

The unit 9 hunt this year was slipped in via the back door by a few of the commissioners last year with no public imput. They have no data to show how this will affect success rates or the age/size of bulls taken. It does not make sense to put the highest success rate weapon types in front of archery which is hands down the lowest success rate weapon type. Archery hunters had better let their voice be heard or be prepared to deal with the changes. Even with the advances in archery equipment most archery elk I would bet are taken under 50 yards. The mordern inline scoped muzzle loaders are capable of shooting several hundred yards easy. The success rates of the archery hunt will go down if the rifle/muzzleloader trophy hunts are before the archery hunt. I plan on attending the meeting in Mesa tonight. If you can't attend please email the commisioners and the department and let them know how you feel.

darrcolburn replied to Jay Scott's topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Thank you everyone for the nice comments. Paul is very excited and asked me when we were driving home how long it is going to take me to get his fan and beard mounted so he can put it on his wall. -
I have also used Ken as mentioned above. He is a great guy, super honest and a fellow coues deer hunting junky.
-
I would contact Russ Jacoby. He spends lots of time up there guiding for buffalo. He is a great guy and a weath of knowledge about the area. PM me for his info. Darr

new toy, what to build..?
darrcolburn replied to southernxpress's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I think you should build another 6.5 of some sort, 6.5 Creedmoor, .260, 6.5x47 or something else. I really like the 6.5s due to the mild recoil, great bullet selection, high b.c. and they are easy to load for. A McMillan stock would be great. Are Remington 700 parts interchangeable with that action? How does it compare to the 700 action? What are you thinking about building? Are you going to do a hunting weight rifle or a heavy bench gun? Have fun with the build! -
I have been wanting to get the RCBS Chargemaster Combo as well. Natchez has them on sale for $289 right now.

260 rem vs 7mm-08 vs 243 vs ?
darrcolburn replied to creed_az_88's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
You may take a look at the Weatherby Series 2 Vanguard in 6.5 Creedmoor. I bought one for my oldest son last Christmas and have been really impressed with the gun and caliber. I think the rifle was around $600. Factory ammo is about $30 a box and it is easy to reload for. My 8 year old loves to shoot it also. The recoil is like a .243 in my opinion. The 260 and 7-08 are also good choices. -

Nice work Todd. Someone got a great shooter! I really like the 6.5 caliber. -
Phil, I think my neighbor Keith Paffrath was on this trip. I loaned him a couple of my rods and reels. Looks like you guys had a great trip on a nice boat. It is really nice fishing with people you know on a limited load. The fishing this year has been off the charts good. Thank you for sharing.
