I dont know if they are still there or if they are if they are still decent but I used Mcagnos meats for years and never had a single complaint. Also, It doesnt matter what butcher I use, the backstraps AND tenderlions ALWAYS go home with me. I can cut those up easy enough any way.

I have done the exact same thing several times in the past! I get into such a habit of hitting redial then hanging up........I am getting an adrenaline rush just thinking about it!

I am very sorry to hear about your loss. I know I look forward to the days when John 5:28,29 are fullfilled when those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out and the days spoken of at Isaiah 65:17 when the former things will not be called to mind, neither will they come up into the heart. Hang in there. Michael

Congrats on an excellent ram!

My theory is that it doesnt always depend on how genetically big a buck or bull is rather his age, demeanor and temperment. Dominant bucks and bulls (typically older ones) seem to rub off and their necks swell much earlier than non-dominant bucks or bulls. Just like I have seen a very large bull (360ish) leave the area after a smaller 315ish herd bull showed up. Obviously the smaller bull was more dominant and or aggressive. Another example was during the September bow hunt. I used to hunt unit 21 just out of Phoenix. I had hunted there for quite a few years and observed that the bucks didnt rub off until mid October and many very young bucks wouldnt even into November. Yet one of the locals in early to mid September told me he had seen the local big buck and that he was already rubbing off. I laughed and thought yeah right. A couple of weeks later I was out scouting the area after the bow season and I jumped the local big buck. Guess what? Not only was he all stripped off, his horns were already darkened which means they had been stripped for a little bit already. Also his neck was freakishly huge. This was the first of October and the peak of the rut was near 3 and a half month away. My theory was that he had to be the "dominant" buck of the area. He was ready long before the other bucks were even dreaming of nookie. Just my thoughts and opinions.

This is the season! Thanks for sharing. I have found fresh rubs as well as velvet hanging from antlers as early as July 20th in 6A. Cant wait for my next elk tag. I should be due for an archery tag in the next 3 years or so.

I see moving the cammera back a bit helped. Now how about some pix from the "other" unit?????? Not to hijack the thread but I got those 300 grain pills for the Edge. The second group was .257" at 100 with good velocity. I will take her to 300 yards tomarrow and 700 yards on Monday. Ill let you know how it goes.

Planning on darting all of them are you Rex?

They must migrate back by January 1st. Never had trouble finding them then

Where'd you end up putting in NUT.... If you don't mind me askin' 22 Late WT 1st and Late muzzleloader mule deer 41/42 2nd choice. I want both equally so I let fate decide. I only put in for 22 WT 1st because my cousin talked me into it since he is also due for a tag in 22.

Educate me!! The research I have done leads me to believe that 8 points would earn me just about any deer hunt I wish SOUTH of the Colorado river. I did not apply for any hunts north of the CO river. So unless I am missing something here..................I just need to confirm I drew not hope I drew. 8 points pretty much means nothing ha ha ha. . . . that bonus point system they talk about is an urban legend. Youre all just jealous. I guess we will know soon enough. It has worked in the past..............

The last time I drew a good tag (2004) I screamed very very loud and for quite a few minutes. The neighbors where a bit concerned and my wife was embarrased. If I knew then what I know now (that is how the draw works) I would have known that with 6 bonus points there was no way I COULD NOT have drawn an archery bull 7E tag in the BP pass and I wouldnt have been so suprised. This year when I confirm that my 8 points secured me a deer tag, I think I will simply have a drink and continue dreaming of big rut crazed bucks.

1 hole groups at 100 yards in a factory 7mm RUM is not realistic. If you want ragged one hole groups, I would suggest a different caliber and or custom rifle combination. The 7RUM is capable of phenominal accuracy if it built properly. Just dont excpect premium accuracy out of it in a factory version. That said, I am sure you can beat the 1 MOA youre getting now. you will need to try more powders. Look at H50BMG and stick to the 168 VLD or the 162 AMAX. Also try the 180 Berger VLD. Pick your best load and be happy with it. If the best you can do with it is 1 MOA then be happy. You may be suprised what she'll do a bit further out. IMHO H4831 is a way too fast a powder for the 7RUM, at least with the heavier bullets.

I guess that is the nice thing about having 8 points for deer and no hunt choices on my applications that are north of the CO river. I pretty much know a permit is in the bag. ALRIGHT!! I admit it. THIS IS KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It has been the same old story for me for the last 17 years. Apply in May or June and then call like he!! towards the end of July.

8 weeks old or 8 years old, a dead coyote is a great thing.

Now that was funny!

You confuse heavy barrels with big calibers. Heavy barrels actually have several good purposes. 1: They add weight to the rifle and subsquently reduce recoil. 2: They ARE more ridged and subsequently more inherently accurate than spaggetti thin whippy barrels. 3: This extra ridgidity also cuts down a bit on the effects of "the cold bore shot." Something you may encounter on a December WT hunt.

Using a smaller bullet isnt neccesarily more efficient. You can get bullets of equal weight to go faster using a bigger bore than in a smaller bore of equal barrel lengths. The reason for this is burn area. A 26" 308 barrel has an approximate burn area of 8.008" where a 26" 260 barrel has an area of 6.864". It would take a 30.33" long barrel to get the velocity to equal the same weight of bullet using the larger bore. So we take advantage of this situation and use heavier bullets and higher BC's and make them go as fast as the smaller lighter bullets in the smaller caliber. This is how we get a 30 cal 190 up to the same speed as a 260 140 grain. I have vast amounts of experience with the cartridges in question both in the field and behind the PC using advanced ballistic calculators. You cannot out perform a given cartridge by sticking a smaller bullet in the same case. You can beat SOME factors but not all. About the only advantage the 260 remmy offers is a bit less recoil, a few less inches of drop and a few less inches of wind drift at 1000 yards where the 308 has nearly 150 more foot pounds of energy and a bigger wound track. At more practical game ranges such as 600 yards and youre within 3" of drop, 2 inches of drift to the 260's favor but the 308 shines with 300 additional foot pounds and a bigger hole. I am not saying the 260 isnt capable just that the 308 can and will hold her own against any other bullet based off the same case and do it with significantly more barrel life. The bullets used in the above example are the 30 cal 190 BERGER hunting VLD and the 6.5 140 BERGER hunting VLD. These are practical bullets for hunting applications. Up the anti a bit and use some of the GS bullets from South Africa and you cant touch the 308 using the 177 grain HV and its wicked BC with the 260 period. With the 177 HV you get a 200 pound advantage, 15" less drop, and 5" less drift at 1K. The only issue is the bullet requires at least a 10 twist barrel and many 308's are 12. For those with 10x barrels these bullets can be awesome.

Check your scale. Senderos and 700 Varmints dont weigh even close 25-30 pounds even with the largest of scopes, rings and bases, bipods and a full magazine. Closer to 12-14# 30 pounds is 50 BMG territory.

450 yards is just the beggining for the 308. The 308 is a much better long range hunting round than it gets credit for. Shot placement as always is key. High velocity doesnt kill, expanded bullets in the vitals kills. With the inherent accuracy of the 308 as well as low recoil, good shot placement isnt real hard. Sure using the right bullet for the job is a bit more critical than the big boomers but it can be done. All this couple with the fact that the 308's premium accuracy life is very long as is fairly economical to shoot, one can really get to know his weapon and make shots count. Sure it isnt sexy like the 300 RUM and such but she sure is practical. Big rifles are like big trucks. Expensive as he!! to operate and only shows the rest of the world that youre making up for something. A short list of a few of my 308's best shots: 2002 Dall sheep @ 763 yards. One shot fired one dead ram. 2003 Dall sheep (my buddy using my rifle) 604 yards. 2007 Moose (one shot flop) 438 yards.

This kind of reasoning is very sad. NR may put many many applications into YOUR pool but are limited to 10% of ANY available tags so even though we may have huge amounts of applications for YOU to compete with, you really have very little competition from us due to the few tags we get. We like you have to pick a number, get in line and wait our turn only we have to wait longer on average due to the cap. You should be thankfull that we donate our hard earned money to your state year after year. In the last 14 years I have donated thousands of dollars to your state and drawn only 2 permits and only one note worthy tag. An archery elk in a decent unit and an archery javalina tag. I think the money I have donated far exceeds any number of permits I have taken away from you. Your game managment and the quality of your hunts is due largely to non-residents money as well as yours but not just yours. Of course most of Arizonas best hunting is on national forest which belongs to you and the rest of non-residents equally. Not that that really matters. BTW, after reading the pdf file, I believe this is old news. This was the proposal for the last fee hike which has already happened a few years ago. Look at the current prices versus the "proposed" prices. Todays current prices are the old proposed fees and its last edit data was in November of 2005.

Good sheep spots are usually kept under lock and key. I can tell you that they are from the Chugach mountain range.

NR license = 85.00 NR tag = 425.00 Guide = 7500-12000 average for a decent guide is 10000 As a NR you are required to have a guide unless you can hunt with a resident who is 2nd degree kin.

What is the Ideal Arrow and Broadhead Choice for Elk?
308Nut replied to mulie hunter's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I would select the arrow that my bow liked the best and the G5 montec 100-125 would get my vote for elk 100% of the time. It is a perfect cross between a cut to the tip AND a chisel tip. No blades to pop out or aluminum cores to bend. When it comes to elk, they are perfectly designed. All IMHO that is.
