I think those three marks that look like nail marks are actually the lobes on the pad. Tracks going the other direction. Three lobes is definitely a lion.

Hyperwrx gives good info. I read many of his posts when I got started and I believe they helped me catch some of my first cats. You might also check out the archives on the trapperman forum. A wealth of knowledge there. If your ever up around flagstaff your always welcome to come with me on my high country trap line : )

Awsome job! My dad had the first peaks hunt and I had the second and neither one of us could get the job done.

This morning I filled my archery deer tag and was also drawn for 7 rifle deer. Whats the best way to gift this tag? Should I contact some one like Hunt of a Lifetime?

Skinner ridge and red butte are good starting places. If you are holding out for a big buck I would check the feeder canyons into the cataract.

How to dispatch trapped animal?
nateNAU replied to Coues assassin's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
I am fairly new to trapping and have never used a catch pole but am considering it this year. I just put a 22 short between the eyes. One of my biggest tips to a new trapper it to get out and learn the animals before the season. 90% of catching a bobcat is finding where the bobcat will be and placing the trap in front of him. -

Custom 223 DPMS AR15 tuber with desert tan finish, vltor stock, imitation aimpoint red-dot, and a new no slip grip. There are some chips in the desert tan finish but other than that the gun is ready to kill some yotes. SPAS 12 shotgun, ya the one clinton banned importation of, very hard to get these, converts from pump to semi auto with the push of a button. This has been in movies such as the Terminator, Jurrasic Park. The grip insert in the middle of the grip is broken but should be a cheap and easy fix. Get both of these and no predator stands a chance. Asking $1150 for the AR15 and $1250 for the SPAS 12. Offers for trades are welcome. Price drop: $1000 each

Not the bear I wanted but still a nice reward
nateNAU posted a topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Last fall while calling for bear this guy came in. I was calling into a deep canyon for almost two hours before he showed up. He snuck up to within 6 feet before I saw him! Right in front of me! I raised my rifle and he looked at me in confusion giving me chance to shoot him with a round from my 7mm mag in the chest. He hit the ground, and then leaped 6 feet straight up before taking off. Ray charles could have followed the blood trail. I knew he was hit hard. About 50 feet down hill I walked past an oak thicket about 10 feet in diameter with thick under brush and heard hissing. As I would move around the thicket he would move to, never giving me a shot. I decided to sit and wait becuase I knew he was hit hard. After about 45 minutes I stepped into the thicket and as soon as my foot hit the ground inside the thicket He lunged and latched onto my steel toe. I kicked him off and tried to put him in my scope sights, but he retreated into the underbrush again. I manuvered around until I was finally able to give him a finishing shot. One tough guy. I saw my first shot skimmed him under the chest and exited his rear leg. such a small animal taking two rounds from my bear rifle before going down. He wasnt a bear but i still consider it a very sucessful day. Cant wait till he gets back from the taxidermist.
