That's probably all you need to worry about, what shoots and feels best to you. Here's my opinion. Currently I shoot a 345 grain arrow for speed, which I really like and it puts my pins very close together. There are many that say bows shoot better near IBO, others say a heavy arrow is the only way to get enough energy for larger game. I used to shoot larger broadheads 1.5" width with a arrow around 400 grains and didn't like it. Mainly because I thought the arrow didn't penetrate as deep even at longer distances and the arrow flight was slower. I've had the best results with the lighter arrow, and broadhead widths smaller in the 1"-1.25" range. I've noticed the lighter arrow doesn't loose the energy that many people say at long distance and it seems to penetrate deeper, which I like because I would prefer a pass through if possible. A couple buddies shoot the heavy arrow, large broadhead combo and really like it. Everytime I shoot with them no matter what distance the lighter arrow will penetrate a couple inches farther in the target than the heavy arrow. They still insist their arrow has more force... Whether there right or wrong I don't know I just haven't seen a benefit from a heavy arrow....Either way shot placement will be the key, so practice a lot and you do well. Good Luck and I hope you have a great hunt!

I think it looks like Bigfoot!!

Coosefan/Josh.... After I posted the photo I realized something didn't seem right either. I thought maybe if we switched the antlers on the live bull it would resemble the shed a lot more. Either way a great shed and it's kinda scary there's more than one of these five points running around. It sure did look impressive in the meadow with the long thirds and nice whale tails. Monty he might want to hang onto that shed forever, you don't come across those everyday!

Monty I got video of that bull!!! If I knew how to copy from a video and post a pic that would be cool. The other side looks about the same if you find it!!

Those sheds just blow my mind....Amazing!!!

I guess deer are just starting! Don't really know I never look for deer sheds, just happened to see this one fall off the head! Last week I saw four bucks running together and all had antlers. Biggest about a 24" four point. Yesterday I saw a total of four bucks also. Two small four points then later the two together, one that had lost his antlers and then one 2x3 which fell off right in front of me!

If you drew or didn't draw how many points did you have for Bull Elk!! You can vote for more than one or many if you applied for different weapon choices!! It will only let you vote once so put all choices down right away! Try not to Vote on the Title icon make sure to vote under bonus points only. You must VOTE in Each CATEGORY for it to count!!! I hope you have some friends!!!

Yeah maybe!! Bone dry, drier than a pop corn fart....ok I'll stop...I know you hate those words when you have an elk tag!! After getting a dreeeeenching today those elk still have a shot!!

That's all that's on my mind also after three years of elk tags. I consider the Kaibab a fantastic consulation prize to all of us who don't draw an interfering hunt early in the year. Even though I remember seeing very few bucks in 03', there's no other place I would rather be that time of year...

What an Absolute Toad of a shed Josh!!! After being out three times this year and not finding one shed, I finally got lucky this afternoon and found a nice one!! About a 330 type bull antler with a few inches missing off the first and the seventh top point missing as well. Also while driving out of the area I saw two deer standing about forty yards off the road. It appeared one deer had already lost both antlers and the other still had full head gear. We sat there for about five minutes watching while talking about how we wish his antlers would fall off. Finally we had enough so I ran straight at the two deer and the deer popped it's head around with a quick jerk and off went the anlter. I watched them trot off and it appeared he lost both but I couldn't find the other. Probably the first and last time that will ever happen to me!!

Bonus Points it took to draw or not draw Elk

Nope it didn't go through, your just going to have to get lucky one of these years! -
Indeed the early rifle tag is a top notch tag, but a 400 class no less is very very tough standards! Especially on a drought year!

I was looking back at 05' draw data, and it's tough to find anybody with over 12 points that applied for archery elk. The people that did were all drawn also, and of course some were non-residents. The unit your trying to draw now may have more max bonus points than they did in 05'. Or the unit may have less permits than in 05'. Either way your dang close to drawing, so stick with it next year and you will have an archery tag!! -
