WHAT RIFLE WILL YOU BE SHOOTING THIS SEASON?
AZBob replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Remington .270 Mountain Rifle -
This is a long shot, but thought I'd try.... I've misplaced my Outdoorsman Binocular/Tripod adapter, and they are out of stock at Outdoorsmans. My binos already have the stud attached. If you have an extra one you'd be willing to sell, let me know. Thanks, Bob

I don't know how I missed it, but here's the story. Thanks for sharing! http://www.coueswhitetail.com/forums/topic/43166-love-the-coues-but-could-not-pass-on-this-muley/

I hope you'll paste your story into this thread, I'd love to read it. That's got to be a tremendous feeling to complete a 40-year quest. I shot my buck of a lifetime (the one in my avatar) early in my hunting career, so I've kept trying to upgrade my #2 buck for the last 30 years. Congrats on a great buck!

I've got a Vortex High Country tripod I'd trade for it. Let me know. Bob

Old Buck, I went through the link he provided for sheep hunts in his other post and I found 20 successful applicants who drew with maximum points, and if there were 177 max point holders last year, the 157 remaining would be exactly right. I've got max points, too. The odds are getting a little better each year! Bob

Congrats Tom! I've got a few more points and I'm still waiting. Hope you have a great hunt!

Check out this old article: http://news.google.com/newspapers?nid=861&dat=19660323&id=dItLAAAAIBAJ&sjid=Q38DAAAAIBAJ&pg=6316,2872172 It was in the Victoria Advocate (Texas)

According to the Arizona Wildlife Trophy book, Louis R. Dees took a 187.0 ram in the Kofa Game Range in 1965. Both horns were over 40" long. Looks like it would have been #1 in the AZ record book when it was first published in 1970, I believe.

What tag did you draw? The thumbnail screen shot you attached looks like you are referring to Hunt #3117 which has 350 permits. A 20% bonus point pass would take up 70 of the available permits with as many as 35 available to Non-residents. Need a little more information to figure it out.

Looking forward to it, and am bringing a buddy who hasn't been to the event before. It's an incredible collection of antlers. Bob

My son had a civilian tag over 10 years ago. There seemed to be a total disconnect between the personnel at the gate and the person in charge of the hunt. We showed up to scout the unit several times and only got the opportunity to actually go in once. Rifle hunters could only hunt the outer rim of the property, and the elk weren't stupid, they knew where they were safe. This was a September hunt, and it was great to hear a lot of bugling....but they were all off limits. We might have been able to score, but we couldn't close the deal in the limited time my son had away from school. Lesson learned: Don't bother applying again. Too much of a hassle trying to deal with people who could care less about the time and effort you were trying to invest in an elk hunt.

I got this from ADOT this morning: ADOT reopens roads to lakes in White Mountains for summer season SHOW LOW – The Arizona Department of Transportation has reopened several highways in the White Mountains that are closed each winter after the first snowfall, beginning today. The following highways have reopened: State Route 261 between Eagar and Big Lake State Route 273 between Sunrise Park and Big Lake State Route 473 between State Route 260 and Hawley Lake

Best Mexican Restaurant-they didn't do their research!
AZBob replied to biglakejake's topic in The Campfire
Big Lake Jake, I can't believe you left Licano's off your list. They're practically in your back yard. It's our favorite Mexican food in the White Mountains. Sounds like I need to try El Rey in Miami. Bob -
Did you see this one?: http://www.24hourcampfire.com/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php/ubb/showflat/Number/7398517/Searchpage/1/Main/523753/Words/alaknak/Search/true/Hunting_tent_and_wood_stove#Post7398517

I won this rifle at a Deer Association banquet several years ago and have never shot it. It's time to go! Comes with a 10-round magazine, a set of scope rings and the Instruction Manual. Camo stock, blued metal. $125 Firm, picked up in North Phoenix.

This is probably from before many of you were born, but here's a Kaibab buck I took in 1983 with multiple droppers.

New Rifle: Tikka T3, Weatherby Vanguard S2, or Savage 11
AZBob replied to kazpilot25's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Tikkas cycle shells smoother than anything else I've tried, and their trigger is a lot better than the Vanguard. I have an old Savage that doesn't have the Accu-trigger, so I can't compare it to their current model. I'd vote for the Tikka, too. -
You're probably not going to find a great bull on the late hunt, so for me, I wouldn't hesitate to pull the trigger on a 300 bull on the first day. If you haven't taken a bull of that size, I'd think strongly of taking any 5-point or 6-point bull that gives you the opportunity. There are still great bulls out there in November like those we've been seeing posted from the archery hunt, but they are a different animal after the rut, so don't set your expectations too high.

Your M77 is the first generation of Ruger bolt action rifles and was manufactured until about 1992. Your model is commonly referred to as a "tang safety" model. After that date, they started to produce the M77 MK II, which was recently followed by the M77 Hawkeye. I like the old tang safety models and have a .338 I bought in 1984 that has taken a lot of animals over the years. I never had to mess with my trigger on it like I've had to do with other rifles I've bought since. They were a good value back in the day because you didn't have to pay extra to have a hinged floorplate like you did with a Remington 700, which you needed to upgrade to the BDL version to get the hinged floorplate, and they also came with scope rings that fit directly on the receiver, and didn't require you to buy bases and rings like the Remington.

Looking for a new tripod? These are great!!
AZBob replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Other Hunting Gear
Amanda, It doesn't appear that the Promaster has adjustable leg angles. Am I correct on that? Bob -
Red Rabbit Doug, How did you find out you drew a leftover tag? Bob
