I wish I knew why....But I haven’t the slightest clue.....I’m sure lance could provide some insight....But I know several benchrest shooters that have had the same experience...

Several yrs ago I played with barrel lengths and what effect a shorter barrel had on velocity’s. Long story short. I started with a 26” barrel on a 7 stw and cut one inch off at a time. From 27 inches down to 23 inches I lost 60 FPS....Then a funny thing happened....From 22 inches all the way down to 18 inches Velocities returned back to what I was getting with a 26 inch barrel. No powder or bullet changes and all testing was done under the same conditions. I have confirmed this several times over the yrs with different calibers....

Wife = 21 elk points...23 south early rifle Daughter = 14 elk points...She starts her masters program the first week of September so she teamed up with her brother to give them both 9 points. 27 early archery first...3B early archery 2nd choice. If they draw she will donate her tag and get her points back. Me = 9 elk points...23 north early rifle and 27 early rifle. None of us has many points for antelope so we all did single apps and unit 10 and 5b Should be a great year in my family....My wife has 22 deer points. I have 17. My son has 16 and my daughter has 17....Should have one strip tag and at least one late kaibab tag...

We use radios almost every time we’re in the field....

The more you do it the better you will get. It helps if you and your spotter talk about land marks... what is north-south-East and west. What the difference is between above and beyond.... and have the understanding that EVERYTHING looks and is different from what the spotter is seeing. What looks like grass is actually 6 foot brush...What looks like nice easy rolling hills and cuts are anything but....The list goes on and on.... It helps greatly if you use the same guy on a regular basis....and yelling in into the radio he’s right f####ing in front of you how in the f###k can you not see him is of no help....

Run several full customs with Swarovski X5 scopes and a few with nightforce scopes. Your welcome to look through them. You can find a scope to fit ur needs under 3000 dollars absolutely no reason to spend 5 grand.....
