Not mine and I have no idea if it works, but theres a walk in freezer/cooler on Craigslist in Cochise County. http://sierravista.craigslist.org/bar/2474234881.html It looks like he wants $400 and a couple of goats(??) I have no idea what a goat costs (maybe you have a spare goat you are willing to part with), but you may be able to negotiate it down a bit as I think this has been posted a couple of times without selling.

Lark, I don't think the store has burned. Everything I have read or heard is that the fire went to the east side of Big Lake by the lookout tower but has not made it down to the lake itself. Obviously there is good access in there so I am sure the crews are in there in force.

I don't have any pictures, but I love the ones that have been posted already. Usually this time each year I head to the west fork of the black river for a week. This year I was delaying it due to a scheduling conflict. I would have been up there now normally. I doubt I will be able to go at all now. I have been horribly upset for the last couple of days. A family tradition that I look forward to all year. We also made it a tradition to visit the big lake fire tower, which I understand has burned over already. The woman that manned the tower (I cant remember her name) always remembered us. The pictures of Crescent lake are fantastic. Coincidently last year in mid June, the hill in the picture (behind the store) was on fire when I was up there. Crescent was always my dads and my uncles favorite place when I was a kid. I have never been in a place where the wind blew so much and was so cold all the time though (even in June and July). Some of my favorite memories were freezing to death in a tiny boat with my dad, uncle and cousin on the eastern side of the lake, fighting weeds, watching for storm clouds and lighting and catching trout.

Quite a few of these "ramp trucks" have been encountered and seized over the years. I personally was involved in getting one about 10 years ago. Unfortunately since the truck is on the south side, the Mexican authorities actually takes them. All too often, the smuggling organizations simply show up and drive it away from the Mexican impound yard since most of the Mexican cops are bought and paid for.

I used one of these a couple of yeaars ago on my Rem 700 30-06. Instead of just a drop plate, you would actually have a magazine (which I prefer). Straight drop in conversion. Took about 15 minutes at my kitchen table. http://www.cabelas.com/product/Shooting/Firearm-Components/Magazines-Clips%7C/pc/104792580/c/104717880/sc/104442480/Kwik-Klip-Remington-Model-700-Clip-Conversion-Kit/741478.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fshooting-firearm-components-magazines-clips%2F_%2FN-1100238%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_104442480%3FWTz_l%3DUnknown%253Bcat104792580%253Bcat104717880&WTz_l=Unknown%3Bcat104792580%3Bcat104717880%3Bcat104442480

A few weeks ago I drug an old CJ5 up to the house that had been sitting out in the back of the place for about 2 years. After opening the hood with the intention of getting it started, I realized that a whole platoon of packrats had been busy. I think they must have hauled every mesquite bean for two square miles into the engine compartment and shoved them down into the carburetor and any other orifice they could find. What a mess. I do love the video. Makes me want to get out the old Red Ryder and wait for them.

Shooterpar, Its been many years since I entered the agency and many things have changed. I would reccomend you visit the website honorfirst.com . There is a whole bunch of guys that are in the same boat as you and will be able to answer your questions. Good luck. PM me if you still have questions. Naturebob, You seem to be an expert on this subject. I am impressed. I am not sure where you get your information from but I can assure you that the agents are not lazy nor scared. I work with many agents that will track a group of illegal aliens or dope smugglers for 10 to 14 or more hours ON FOOT (are you willing or able to do this every day?). It is quite often many of these groups walk around 80 to 100 miles to meet their ride. It can take several shifts and dozens of agents to apprehend the aliens. Amazingly enough these agents are following the tracks over the mountains and hillsides (shocking isn't it?). Quite often through snow that is a couple of feet deep and then down into the desert floor. Temps can be in the teens to over 115 in the summer. You are correct that they also travel in washes and I can assure you that many are apprehended in those washes since the agents also track them through the washes. I am glad that you have all of the answers. Maybe you can work as a consultant. As far as those agents driving around. If they are driving slowly and looking out the window, then they are signcutting and looking for evedence that someone has crossed a road. Since the inception of the agency in 1924, many thousands of agents have discovered this to be a much more effective way of working than just wandering around the area blindly. As far as looking through the binoculars, I would imagine that you use the same tactic to look for deer on the side of a mountain. This is also a tactic of detecting people instead of wandering around. Amazingly, working as a Border Patrol Agent is very similar to hunting deer. Which do you think is more effective, walking around a hillside or canyon and looking under each bush, or standing on top of a ridge and using binoculars? I can assure you also, that quite often you have been see without even knowing it. It always amazes me that the people that spend a few days of even a few weeks a year in an area have all the answers. While I will be the first to admit that there is alway improvement to be made and politics will get in the way, the people that know how to do this are the guys that are there 24 hours a day every day of the year. These are the same guys that have to balance the complaints of the public that there is criminal activity then complain that the agents are intrusive and have no right or authority to be on their property (they are wrong) I often hear that people only see the agents driving around. Thats because most people have no desire to walk back into the canyons at 3:00 in the morning to actually see what an agent does. The same people complain that the checkpoint has delayed them for 10 minutes but in turn the next guy complains that there are too many aliens around on each side and north of the checkpoint. Some people complain that the Border Patrol should be ON THE BORDER, but other complain there are aliens in the foothills. One polititician complains about something and another complains about something else. The guy caught inthe middle is the agent you see leaning against his truck looking for a group of aliens through his binoculars. Sorry for the rant, and although I should not, I personally take offense to your statements. Next time you call a agent lazy, consider the guy that tracks 20 miles or so all night by himself and after apprehending the group of 10 to 40 people (again by himself, which would scare most people), carries a six or seven year old kid another four or five miles to the nearest road. Very rarely does this stuff get noticed by the public.

I have the same question but for providers in the Sierra Vista or Tucson area. I am attempting to talk myself into Lasik. Being I am in Sierra Vista, the Phoenix area is really not convenient. Tucson is a little over an hour from here and that is reasonable. I am encouraged by everones sucess stories. I know that the procedure is minimally risky, but I still don't like the idea of someone cutting up my eyeball. My eyesight is not that bad, It is just so inconvenient when I am hunting or doing anything else. I am hard on eyeglasses (lots of scratches and always dirty)and would like to eliminate that annoyance. My last exam, the optometrist told me I was a candidate but he POd me about some other stuff and I did not discuss it further with him (he doesn't do it anyway).

Thank You for the quick reply. I am very familiar with the 100 club. Since I did not recognize the number, I did a reverse phone number search and it came back to a Verizon cell number. Also, I looked at the website and it has a phone number of (602) 485-0100. They may have another number that was not listed, or that may be the number of one of the chapter heads. Please don't take this the wrong way, but in this day and age we all must be cautious. That being said, the 100 club is one of the most respectful organizations I have ever encountered. There are also many other excellent organizations provide similar assistance. There are a few members of this forum that wear the green uniform of a Agent every day. I am one of them. Let me be the first to say that the outpouring of support for him is absolutely amazing. I knew Brian well and worked with him many times. As with any law enforcement agency, the death of a Agent is a tragedy. I must admit that while writing this, as it has been so many times today, I am a bit choked up. May he Rest in Peace.

What organization is this?

Call the Willcox BP station (public number is 520-384-7200) and ask for their community relations officer. Depending on where you are actually hunting you may get the info you need or be referred to another station.

Not a rattler, but I saw a garter snake in Unit 1 last week at about 8,000 feet. It was probably about 55 or 60 degrees and he was on the rocks sunning himself. He took off when we came through, which I appreciated since I was cold and wanted to sun myself on the same rock.
-
If he was so smart, he would not be walking around in the sun when it is 116 degrees outside. Sorry, I don't post that often, but that one I could not resist. I gotta admit that he is a good looking dog. I also think that the lab pup is pretty cute. I am already dealing with a pup and I don't have enough unchewed shoes for another, otherwise I would love to have him.

Great photos. My dad was also born in Warren (Bisbee) and always called them "Sonoran fantails". He also told me that when he was a kid, they were only found on the highest mountain ridges and no one hunted them. Everyone wanted a big mule deer. Its good to see that someone actually was hunting them.

Wow, You actually hunt in areas covered by five different offices. Your best bet would probably be the centralized number. FYI, GPS coordinates are the best thing. eg: "I last saw them 200 yards northwest of N---------, W ---------- twenty minutes ago" Good luck

You can call 1-877-USBP-HELP. Yes it has one additonal digit than normal numbers, but that is the one for the public to call to the Sector dispatcher. 911 will connect you, but really, the 911 dispatchers have more important things to deal with. Really, the best thing you can do is directly call the station that has the responsibility of that area. While the centralized Sector dispatcher will get the information, things get diluted and confusing when the central dispatcher relays to a station, who then relays to agents in the field. If you want to let me know the general area you are hunting, I can tell you which station to call (Its not as simple as you would think). If you do end up calling the wrong station, the info will still get sent to the correct office, but again the info gets diluted.

The BLM maps are pretty good at showing fed/state/private land. I would suggest visiting your local BLM office. The only problem is that they may not have any outside of their area of responsibiltiy. Also, check out the Arizona state land office website. You can use their online map to see where all of the state lands are. Unfortunately their website is not very user friendly (actually its pretty bad). http://www.land.state.az.us/maps/server_he...online_maps.htm Do you have a general idea where in the unit you want to hunt? I am fairly familiar with the unit (at least the west side) and know of quite a bit of public land plus a few ranches that are part of the sportsmans access program (some with some decent deer).

Yamaha 2400. I personally have one and you cannot go wrong. I pulled mine out from my fifth wheel just the other day and ran the AC on it for an hour or two since I had not run it in a while. It uses extremely little fuel. When I shut mine off to store, I turn off the fuel valve and let it run out of fuel (so gas is not sitting in the carb for an excessive amount of time). It will take a good five minutes for it to finally shut down. I understand that Yamaha specifically designed these for the RV crowd to run ACs. Starts on the first pull 9 out of 10 times. Starts on the 2nd pull if it has been sitting for 6 months. It weighs about 70 lbs and is no problem for me to load by myself. I know that some people like the smaller Hondas since they are lighter but you need two to run the AC. It is so quiet that me and a friend stood with it running between us and had a conversation in normal tones with no problems. Your camp neighbors will appreciate it. I have had several compliments from fellow campers. I bought mine about three years ago. I don't remember where I bought mine (internet somewhere), but I believe I paid about $1200 at the time.

One thing about G&F is that almost everyone they deal with is armed. Since it is known that the "kid" has a weapon, that is probably the reason they had plenty of officers on scene. Also, I imagine they had the local manager, the supervisor, and probably an evidence collection team. Its also traditonal (courteous) to have the local PD on hand when serving a warrant in a municipality. That being said, I am curious to see what the outcome of the charges will be. As most of us know, game violations are historically (unfortunately)met with minimal punishment. This is a nationwide issue, not just AZ.

While I cannot go into details, I can assure you that about 90 percent of that first post is incorrect.

If it was customs, they were probably running the number in NCIC (which contains a list of reported stolen property) to see if it came back stolen. Most likely there was a 12ga that was reported stolen at some time with the same serial number.

Older article, but it shows what happens when companies knowingly hire illegal aliens. Company president, ten others, charged in worksite probe of Arizona drywall and stucco firm Case is first Arizona worksite investigation resulting in criminal charges TUCSON, Ariz. – The president of a Sierra Vista drywall and stucco company and 10 others face state and federal criminal charges today following a multi-agency probe into allegations the business knowingly hired illegal alien workers and conspired with counterfeit document vendors to obtain fraudulent work authorization cards for those employees. Those charged in the case include the president and seven other employees of Sun Drywall and Stucco, Inc., as well as three individuals suspected of supplying counterfeit work authorization documents to the company’s illegal alien workers. The charges against the Sun Drywall employees include conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens and conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens. Those accused of supplying the counterfeit documents face state charges of identity theft. The criminal charges, the first ever brought in a worksite enforcement investigation in Arizona, were announced today at a news conference in Tucson held by the agencies involved in the 16-month probe, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Customs and Border Protection Border Patrol, the U.S. Department of Labor Wage and Hour Division, and the Arizona Fraudulent Identity Task Force (AFIT). The Cochise County Sheriff’s Office and the Sierra Vista Police Department assisted federal agents with today’s takedown. U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona Daniel Knauss stated, “These serious charges should send a strong message that we expect all Arizona employers to start taking federal immigration laws seriously. I would like to extend our thanks to all the federal and state agencies that worked together to bring this case for prosecution.” Six of the suspects charged in the case were taken into custody today as federal and state authorities executed search warrants at several sites related to the investigation. Those locations included the company’s headquarters in Sierra Vista, the home of a Sun Drywall foreman, and residences suspected of housing counterfeit document mills. During today’s operation, authorities seized employee records, computers, and other evidence related to the case. In addition, agents also served search warrants at eight Sun Drywall job sites in residential subdivisions located in the Sierra Vista area, where they arrested eight unauthorized workers on administrative immigration violations. The illegal workers, all of whom are from Mexico, are being processed and detained by ICE. This morning, ICE set up a hotline for persons trying to locate family members they think may have been apprehended. The hotline number is 520-266-3975. Bilingual assistance will be available on the hotline. “We intend to search out employers who knowingly or recklessly hire unauthorized workers,” said Alonzo Peña, special agent in charge of the ICE Office of Investigations in Arizona. “ICE will use every authority within its power to shut down businesses that exploit an illegal workforce to turn a profit.” The defendants arrested today include: •Ivan Hardt, 44, of Sierra Vista, president of Sun Drywall, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; •Carol Hill, 42, of Sierra Vista, human resource manager for Sun Drywall, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; •Jose Gutierrez-Tapia, Sr., 50, of Bisbee, foreman for Sun Drywall, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; •Joaquin J. Neave, 42, of Sierra Vista, a manager for Sun Drywall, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; •Efrain Silvain-Avechuco, 36, of Mexico, block manager for Sun Drywall, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; and •Omar Reyes, 25, of Sierra Vista, a Sun Drywall employee, charged federally with conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens; and conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens; The investigation into Sun Drywall began in November 2005 after ICE received information that the company was engaging in illegal hiring practices. In December 2005, ICE agents reviewed the Form I-9s for 115 Sun Drywall employees and determined that 11 of them had used counterfeit Permanent Resident Alien cards known as “green cards” to obtain their jobs. Sun Drywall was provided with a list of the unauthorized workers. A subsequent review of wage reports subpoenaed from the Arizona Department of Economic Security showed that Sun Drywall continued to employ several of those workers, even after ICE advised the company about the employees’ illegal status. The multi-agency investigation also revealed that several of Sun Drywall’s unauthorized workers possessed counterfeit “green cards” bearing numbers belonging to other people. A conviction for conspiracy to knowingly hire illegal aliens, a class B misdemeanor, carries a maximum penalty of six months in prison in addition to other possible fines. A conviction for conspiracy to harbor illegal aliens carries a maximum penalty of five years, a $250,000 fine, or both.

I have no problem with the spirit of this law. It will eliminate "sanctuary cities" along with problems with politicians that tell their police chiefs and Sherriffs not to report illegal aliens that they encounter. I personally think that the law will be challenged in court, and be overturned. Not because it is a bad law, but because the idiot lawmakers have no common sense. They wrote the law saying that they may question anyone they suspect of being illegally in the country as to their citizenship. Since they wrote it that way they have left it to the discretion of the officer to articulate why they believe they are illegal which WILL lead to racial profiling. If they had written the law to say that every contact they have (vehicle stop etc..), they must question EACH occupant as to their citizenship, then there would be no basis for profiling since they have to do it to everyone. By reading the above comments, it is obvious that many people are not exactly sure what this means for Arizona. Many are complaining that Border Patrol will be increased. There are also complaints about Border Patrol Checkpoints. This has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Border Patrol. BP is a federal agency not a state agency. As far as the people that complain that all the agents do is drive around, you have obviously never spent any actual time around any. The reason that people complain about seeing them on the roads is that most people are not walking the canyons and mountains where they are working on foot. (Most wear out a sole of a pair of boots every six months) (By the way I will be the fist to criticize the BP) One last comment. The people that use the term "looks Mexican" need to rethink that statement. This is exactly what the organizations that scream racism are complaining about. I am probably one of the most politically incorrect person around, but this is just an ignorant term. If someone can explain to me what a "Mexican" looks like, please let me know. If you go to Mexico City, many are fair skinned and have red hair. Many of the illegal aliens in the US are Mexican Citizens, however there are also the El Salvadorans, the Guatamalans, the Hondurans, etc..., in addition to that are all of the illgal aliens that don't "look Mexican", such as the Canadians, Germans, French, etc... (and yes there are illegals from those countries) Many years ago, I had a friend that was from Poland that was here legally. He admitted to me that before he was legal he lived in the US illegally with no problems since most people had the attitude that all the illegal aliens were brown. Sorry for the rant, but this is what happens when we associate race with the laws that need to be implemented and enforced.
