Excitement in Greer this morning
Jcubed replied to billrquimby's topic in Black Bear or Grizzly Bear hunts
Good to hear that. I was actually up at the Grayling campground this weekend and heard the dogs baying EARLY on Saturday morning. The dogs eventually moved out of hearing distance but as I was hiking down from Sheeps Crossing towards Greer, I briefly heard them again. One thing about hunting with dogs is that you really can't control where they decide to follow the scent to. Beautiful country up there, even after the burn. Sure does look different than a few years ago though. My only complaint was that one of my friends backed out at the last minute and we didn't have two cars, thus we couldn't hike from Sheeps Crossing all the way into Greer. -
Women's Coues Hunting Camp Nov 9-11, 2012

Just wondering if anyone out there in cyber space picked up a leftover tag in order to attend this event? -
Things your huntin buddies do that drive you nuts : )

Driving in the truck incessantly...seeing what is away from the roads is a major reason I hunt. It forces me to be in places others humans will never see. -
Did anybody get drawn for 36C for Mule deer?

Women's Coues Hunting Camp Nov 9-11, 2012
Jcubed replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Was just down in these units and the recent rains have really greened up the desert and mountains. It is substantially better than last year imo at this time. Things are looking good for this camp. Let's all pray for some good hunting weather during the hunt. As always if anyone wants to go hiking and scouting in any of these units let me know... -
Just about any pack you can attach a kifaru gun bearer to. It's a nice piece of gear and also has the benefit of allowing you to access the rifle with the simple pull of a tab. Look at the universal at this link: http://www.kifaru.net/gunbearer_hunt.html

Women's Coues Hunting Camp Nov 9-11, 2012
Jcubed replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
I don't think that there is an exact location of the camp, at least not that I have heard about. However, based on the info provided that the camp will have easy access to 36c,b, and a I would have to think it will be somewhere off of the 286 or arivaca rd. Either of those roads have camping areas close by and will also allow for easy access into the 36 units which will allow the ladies and gentlemen in attendance with tags in different units to camp together and share experiences. I'm going to be kicking my scouting into high gear in 36c shortly and if anyone who will be a mentor or huntress in this camp would like to go let me know. I'm currently living in Tucson so it's not that far for me to get to the units. -
Looking for help with a GREAT problem
Jcubed replied to mtn-memories's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I think I would start with what tag is my number one priority to fill... The flip side is will you be able to pattern either species so that you can have one on the ground quickly and then focus on the other species... With the deer hunt lasting longer, I would probably focus on the elk tag first. -

Well, I just sent off the application. I can't wait for the cooler weather to come around and be roaming through the hills. Hope to meet a bunch of you down at the camp. -
Don't tempt me with a good time!

Wow! That is a shame. If I was up in Phoenix, I would have jumped on them...I should have thought to alert one of my friends!

Do you lose your bonus points when you pick up left over tags?
Jcubed replied to SDHunter11's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
No loss of points...some may call it a strategy! -
I'll hopefully be sitting behind the glass on the lucky few who were able to draw elk tags. With any luck at all I'll be putting some heavy quarters on my back and helping with the work! Also, I'm going to be at the CWT ladies hunting camp and hopefully help on getting a lady on a deer in the unit I'm scouting pretty hard since it's close to my new home. Good luck to all those with tags and good eyes to those helping out!

Younggunz, I would love to help out with the camp. I live in Tucson and will be scouting those units pretty extensively. Let me know how I can help! -
Rod, Depending on my school schedule next semester, I might be going down to 36c for one of the hunts. Not the most experienced whitetail hunter but I can glass and plan on scouting a decent amount over the summer and fall. I would be willing to share camp or whatever suits you if our schedules work out.

Well, here's how it all started. Slowly I have been getting my girlfriend more and more involved in outdoor and shooting activities. After I put in for the fall hunts, I asked her if there was anything she would like to try and hunt... I was absolutely floored when she said she wanted to hunt turkey. Well, having missed putting in for the draw I explained that we may be able to get some leftover tags but that the units probably wouldn't be the best. She said she didn't care so we put in for and drew 6B turkey tags in the leftover draw. Well long story short, I have no idea what I am doing in respect to fall turkey hunting. We've been out scouting a few times so far and have only seen a couple sets of tracks at water holes. I know that the fall hunts arent during the breeding season so calling is not an effective technique. So any advice on how to hunt these birds? Should I focus on finding water somewhere far from the roads and just have her sit it all day? Can I pattern turkeys or are they too nomadic in their territories to know where they will be at a given time? I've explained to her my lack of turkey knowledge but she is still really excited so I just want her to have the best hunt possible. She's really adventurous (her first camping experience was a backpacking trip into the west clear creek wilderness area) and I never thought I would have a gf who would share my love of the outdoors. Thanks in advance for any advice on hunting turkeys in the fall.
