Dirty tactics once again from the AZGFD! Now you'll know why to never trust them
Jcubed replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
Thank you Shawn. Once again people on this forum jump to conclusions without knowing the facts. Surprisingly they don't learn from their past mistakes and posts. -
Great looking buck!

I hunt that unit a pretty good amount and helped others on a few different hunts last year. The October hunt is warm to say the least. Terrain varies from decently rugged mountains, rolling hills, to large flats. Deer numbers are ok but it isn't a guarantee you will see multiple bucks in a day. Amanda and Young Guns do a women's hunting camp in those units. I have heard it is a great time and you get the benefit of camping with others. Let me know if you need more info.

JLG figured I would see you name in this post!

Hey all, Quick question for the experts. Has anyone fished the Colorado River from the New Hance Tral to the Grandview Trail? I'm going backpacking and was wondering if the extra weight of the pole in my pack would be worth it. Thanks in advance.

Coues Hunting in Arizona. . . questions from a beginner
Jcubed replied to bigfatbeginner's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
Glass glass and glass some more...also helps to be in good shape to hike the hills and get to glassing locations. My best piece of advice would be to see if anyone will let you tag along on their hunt or help you out on your hunt. You will learn a lot more from people who already know how to hunt coues. I know that I have helped out on a lot of hunts and will continue to do so as it allows me to get out on more tags during the year than my single deer tag. Good luck and listen to the people on this site, there are some real experts lurking around here. -
I was down there today...lots of expensive gps survey equipment out in that unit

Arizona Game and Fish officer under investigation
Jcubed replied to bonecollector777's topic in The Campfire
What a joke...you claim they think you are guilty until proven innocent...yet you are ready to pronounce guilt before an investigation has even been conducted! Can't talk out of both sides of your mouth and still be credible. -
Innocent until proven guily. If you believe otherwise, well, we have bigger problems...

36-c semi realtime updated hunting trip
Jcubed replied to idgaf's topic in Bowhunting for Coues Deer
I know that buck! Good job on the javelina! I'm about to head out on the same hunt... -
The hikes will be for photographing the alpine flowers. I hope there is a good snowpack this winter, as last year's led to a poor bloom. I should throw the flyfishing gear in the truck this year also. Have a great canyon hike. I think that is the best way to see it. What trails are you hiking? We are planning on the Hermit down, Tonto on the Bottom, and then Bright Angel up to the lodge. Should be a good time with good friends.

I understand the benefits of a trailer but it is hard to pack a trailer on your back into wilderness areas! Different setup for those that want to get away from the roads and crowds yet still have the ability to sit out weather in a comfortable way, also helps to keep the morale up for those who aren't the die-hard hunters when the weather strikes. Put it this way...my girlfriend's first camping experience was with me and we backpacked into the West Clear Creek Wilderness in December. After the first day, weather turned bad with snow and howling wind. However, with the tent and the stove, we were sitting inside drinking hot chocolate in 80 degree weather! Pretty sweet set-up. Without that tent, she may have never camped with me again. Luckily for me she continues to camp, backpack, and is turning into a hunter!

Funny you said that azslim...I have a 6-man Kifaru that makes life in snow, wind, and rain a dream. I highly recommend their gear. American made, durable, and constructed with the backpack hunter in mind. Wish I knew how to post pics lol. If anyone ever wants to check out Kifaru geaer in person, let me know and maybe we can set something up...we took out the tent and stove on Thursday and Friday for a one night camping trip and the weather turned to snow and my roommate's 6 year old son was toasty warm and happy through the entire time.

If the gf draws an elk tag, I will be scouting HARD for that hunt. Also, I want to focus on either taking a bear or mountain lion this year. Leftover deer tag again (want to draw a 13B tag once in my life) so will be spending a lot of time in that unit again. I think some friends are planning on coming down next year so camp should be more entertaining than just myself talking to my shadow on the mountain. Other goals, doing the Grand Canyon in March...more backpacking trips and helping out some others on their hunts next fall and this spring... Oh yeah, almost forgot, need to matriculate from the graduate school! Redrabbit, Is your trip going to be a photography outing? Any fishing? The San Juans are somewhere I have always wanted to go!

I agree on the bivy especially when camping for long periods of time and the weather hits. Hard to sit up, cook, and stay sane in a bivy. The tent is worth it when the weather hits. Unit 33 is a unit I have wanted to do the same sort of hunt...backpack into areas where no humans have been in a while and enjoy the solitude. I constantly catch myself looking up at those mountains on my way to work or school and the planning churns through my head... Congrats on getting out and doing it! Also, congrats on a great trophy that will constantly bring back the memories of the hunt!

Late December Coues 1 out of 2
Jcubed replied to deserttacoma84's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
Congrats on the buck guys...I know how hard you worked for it. Sorry we just couldn't put it together on the second tag. It was a pleasure hunting with you and spending time with the both of you and your dad. Hopefully, more adventures to come in the future! Keep in touch...
