Back country backpack trip for Coues
DesertBull replied to AZ_SAWBUCK's topic in Rifle hunting for Coues Deer
I would not even bother with a bivy sack on an October hunt unless there is rain in the forecast. Sleeping bag tucked under a juniper or a rock outcropping. .300 for sure -
So the first day there some no job havin', welfare queen, douche bag busted into your locker? That sucks.

White house says gun control will stop violence in Baltimore
DesertBull replied to murfys69law's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Here is a deal. Lets pass more gun control Laws in Baltimore on the premise that everyone that works in the White House, including Dear Leader and his family, will move there without secret service security. Yeah..didn't think so. -
White men can't jump?

The guys cutting off their CLA are claiming it is not cut square to the bore so it's doing exact opposite of what it is designed for. You can buy new factory TC barrels from Midway. Maybe you just have a dud barrel because a 5 inch group at 25 yards sounds like more than just a bullet / powder problem.

I drew a deer tag in Utah after 13 years of applying. Will probably just buy a deer point here in AZ .

Where were the hand wringers and PC fanatics when this was displayed as "art"? Pretty sure no one got beheaded or shot over this. http://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/2012/sep/28/andres-serrano-piss-christ-new-york

If they really wanted to make the liberals lose their minds they would be chanting to the Muslims "stop killing gays" and "stop abusing your women".

There are some companies making replacement ML'er barrels for the T/C http://www.bullberry.com/black-powder-barrel-details.html I have also heard of guys taking their barrels to a Smith and having them cut off the CLA and recrown the barrel. I had good luck with Precision Rifle Bullets in my Knight. They also make CO legal conicals. https://www.prbullet.com/ul50.htm

New Low for Boy Scouts
DesertBull replied to Non-Typical Solutions's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
The Boy Scouts are a private organization. They should not have to fear discrimination lawsuits. The WNBA & LPGA are two examples of legal discrimination. Discrimination is only illegal for the state, not private organizations. -
L.E. utah elk tag - Manti central mountains
DesertBull replied to azpredator@work's topic in Elk Hunting
Sweet. How many points did you have. -
I like the Garmin 62 series. You can import free maps, game management units, trails, roads etc. The base camp software and any other number of third party programs can import the Google earth kml files.

Go to Walmart or another big box or even better a pawn shop. $200-$500 Get a Savage long action (110,116, etc not Axis or Edge) or a Remington 700 For the Savage you can Spin off the barrel. Remington, probably best to have a smith take off the barrel unless you have the tools. If you bought new, sell unfired barrel and lug nut for $75-100 and stock for $25-50 Go to Shilen or McGowen website and order a Savage prefit barrel and barrel nut and recoil lug in what ever twist, length, contour you want. If you have a remington action, buy the "Remage" barrel and barrel nut. $300-450. Spin on new barrel (it is easy, if my non-mechanical self can do it, anyone can) Go-no gage and barrel wrench - $60-80 you can resell the gage and wrench and get most of your money back. There are easy techniques to set the head space where you will get maximum life out of brass and very little brass trimming required. Get a nice stock - HS precision, Bell and Carlson, Manners, McMillian etc $250-800 Price varies widely, but the HS stocks are nice for $300-ish. You can often get them on Ebay used. Paint it or get it coated you can't tell the difference between used and new. You have a solid action with a custom barrel and upgraded stock for under $1000 with a little bit of work. 7Mags can burn through barrels relatively fast but with this set up you can change out the burnt barrel in less than an hour. I bought a 700 and sent it off to get blue-printed, re-barreled with a Brux SS, HS stock - skim bedded...the whole 9 yards. Cost me $1200 plus shipping and I bought the action. It shoots great but not any better than my garage built Savage for less than $1000
