    Looking for a spotting scope

Nikon Fieldscope is good glass in that price range. The 60MM model fits nicely in my pack, but the 80mm is too big. Not a fan of the Nikon Sky and Earth, but some people like them.
  2. In a country with a poor economy, any opportunity for money counts... even if it includes being a DRUG MULE. You can be poor and still have your dignity.

Long story short. It was brutally hot. I followed this buck and four does for 3 miles before getting a shot. It was a LONG hot walk back to the road. He was a dumb buck.

Do you have a digital video camera? If so, you will most likely need a firewire card and cable to download the video. Once you have this, you should be able to just hook the cam to the computer. You probably have a CD or DVD that came with the camera that has the drivers you need to install so that your computer can recognize the camera. I will be in 7W this weekend with a friend from CA that drew the tag. Maybe we will see you. We'll be in a silver extended cab F150 with Cali plates. Good luck.

Dumb buck - I call it smart hunter AzP&Y There's a story to tell, but I don't have the time right now. Let's just say Decoy + Dufus Buck = bloody knife.

  12. I didnt mean "hobby hunters" to degrade anyone. I just know people that go buy a bow and shoot it twice and then get an archery tag and head or the woods. Last weekend we saw a guy on a quad with his son on the back. His son who is a teenager had his bow WITH an arrow nocked driving a road. It was in one of the units that would be a draw. Come on thats a joke. I think people get what i meant when I said that. In these units people that draw them will not have to deal with a bunch of the bs that goes on. I understand.
  13. No, you should be good for Jan/08. The earliest anything could change would for the early fall 08 season(s).
  14. Why stop there? Why not stop hunting with scoped rifles, Compound bows and limit binocs to 10x magnification. Make it illegal to shoot over 200 yards. How about no shooting after 12:00pm to give the animals a chance to water and feed in the evening without pressure? How about no camping in the forest. Get a motel or stay at the KOA? Why are we hunting antelope and sheep at all? Their numbers are falling fast. You are right, we are our own worst enemy, but not because of the hunting methods we choose, but because we are constantly putting each other down for the methods we choose. Again, if you have a moral problem with these issues and choose not to use any or all of them, I applaud and respect you and your choices. Please do the same for others.
  15. There is nothing wrong with "hobby" hunters. You shouldn't have to breath and crap hunting 24/7 in order to be able to enjoy it. In fact, I think they get more fun out of it a lot of times than the so-called "serious" hunters who put so much pressure on themselves to kill a monster that they often don't enjoy the hunt at all. Most people start out as "hobby" hunters and progress into more advanced, skilled hunters. You don't come out of the womb slaying 200" muleys on public land. People always want to weed out hunters until there is something at the ballot box that needs our attention. Then they plead and beg for all the hunters to join us in this great cause so save our great sport. You can't have it both ways. There is also nothing wrong with killing a spike. It's your tag, do with it as you wish. I think the draw for archery has good and bad points, but mostly bad.
  16. "Money talks and something else walks" as the old saying goes. Boycott might be the only answer. 1 year of license / tag sales at an 80% decline might get their attention.

    Trail Cameras

As far as using attractants go, I think that is way overblown. As an example, assume a mountain you hunt is in prime Coues habitat. On that mountain, there might be 3-5 places all the deer on that mountain can get water year around. Yet, they can get food just about anywhere on the mountain. So, is it more ethical to hunt a pile of corn, which the deer do not need to survive, or the water hole(s), which every deer on the mountain will visit on a regular basis? Just a point to consider.

    Trail Cameras

For the record, I do not have anything against guides or the hunters that use them either.

    Trail Cameras

A camera looks at a 50 sq ft area on the surface of the earth. 10 paid guides using planes, trains and automobiles to scour every square inch of land is quite different, in my opinion. At least the hunter using cams has to take his own time and money to purchase, hang and maintain them. It takes some effort on the hunters part, unlike sitting at home waiting on "the call".
  20. Here's an even better idea. If you don't like bait, don't use it. If you don't like salt, don't use it. If you don't like "silly spy cams", don't use them. I don't like mechanical broadheads, therefore I don't use them, but I don't try and tell others not to. I don't like big, stinky, noisy diesel trucks, therefore, I don't drive one, but I don't tell others not to. I don't shoot doves, because I think they taste like poo, but I don't tell others not to. See the pattern? I agree that they should leave the archery hunts alone, and also let hunters choose the way they wish to hunt without more rules and regulations. There is no reason they cannot do it on a quota system like the OTC bear hunts.

Dove hunt turns into archery deer hunt!

    ROAD HUNTERS!

You should have whipped the 12 ga out from behind the back seat and walked right up to the deer doll and blown it's head off.
