Best place to hunt in Unit 22 or 23? Give suggestions.

Try Pete's Place near Star Valley. -
It's a beautiful video, but to tell you the truth, the slow motion gets to be really annoying after awhile.

of coarse it increases the odds. So does a 4wd truck and 15x56 Swarovskis and laser range finders. It's hard to take them seriously when they give out 700 rifle tags for the same units they are claiming bowhunters took 30 extra deer.

So, alI I had to do was post a few links with FACTS and SOURCES, and now I am the problem? And I am not a happy Camper? This is typical G&F, when someone presents the facts, that person is all of a sudden the problem... How dare I question the allmighty and all knowing G&F... Like almost all Gov't agency's, they eventually evolve into a group that forgets who they work for and who gives them the power they have.

Liberals don't like handguns. I think we should just hunt with cameras.

If the baiting ban is passed then I would hope that a ban on shooting over 400 yards is also in the works. That should lower success rates and allow more hunters in field also.

Why not take unit 22, as a test case, and start a short, draw only season where baiting is legal (say 25 tags) and keep the unlimited OTC archery hunts where no baiting is allowed. You could try that for 2-3 years and then analyze the results.

I don't mind a debate on baiting but let's call it like it is. It's about reducing the number of deer killed, not about disease. I would say that the improvement in equipment, better educated hunters, more people taking up bow hunting because it is getting harder to get late season rifle tags and more people targeting whitetail has as much to do with the increase in bow hunter success on coues as baiting. 20 years ago you could get drawn for December whitetail almost every year, even in units like 27, 32 and 33. Now the odds are better of drawing a kaibab tag. A lot of people took up bow hunting after the tags became hard to draw, so they could hunt in December When I started bow hunting, a 40 yard shot was considered on the far edge of effectiveness for 99% of all bow hunters. Fat aluminum arrows, steel cabled bows, most sights had only 3 pins. Now 70-80 yards is not considered all that far for those that dedicate themselves to practice. Most of us can routinely get within 70 yards of a deer. Consistently getting under 40 is a whole different game. Cheap and effective pop up blinds, bows that shoot hunting arrows and broad heads at 280+ fps, 7 pin sights, cheap laser range finders, etc all bring up the success rates. We won't even get into the rifle hunters that now take deer at 1,000+ yards regularly due to computers and 1600 yard range finders. I believe these are the reasons are why we are being "sold" on the disease aspect. There is no way to regulate technology, so we have to find other ways to limit success without limiting tags. Just my opinion. If you don't it like, I have others.

Couple of questions. Can someone tell me how many cases of CWD in whitetail deer have been documented in Texas. A state that has more corn flingers per square mile than other? Tonto, can CWD live in water?

awesome buck. Congrats

Is it a factory rifle or does it have a custom barrel? Some guys ask for a tight chamber then turn the necks of their brass.

You have the right bare arms whether there is a hunting season or not.

They know it's a problem but Obummer agenda trumps theirs.

What they need to be worried about is the tons of trash that "immigrants" are leaving in their precious jaguar habitat. The environmentalist never utter a single word about that.

Yes you are correct. I was talking about hunting in general not referring to baiting. I could be wrong but hunters 20-30 years ago seemed to get along much better then they do now days. Having the internet might have something to do with that but that's a completely different topic. Back to baiting as coues & sheep pointed out earlier baiting tends to be getting more and more popular over the years and this could be causing baits to be less effective. I'd still like to know if any of you have also noticed a decline in the effectiveness of baiting over the past few years as coues & sheep has? maybe because they were not worried about how other people hunt?

baiting was legal 30 years ago.

I have to dail appx 12 MOA to get to 700 yards with a 7 mag and 162 grain AMAX at 3,100 FPS. That is with a 200 yard zero.

uhm.....ok

No, I would not use a helicopter. Even though it is legal in some states. I also have no interest in chasing hounds around the mountains but don't tell anyone else not to do it. I have no interest in jumping in a river and catching fish by hand, but don't tell others not to do it. I have no interest in shooting prairie dogs or anything else I cannot eat, but would never tell anyone else not to do it.

Understood, but my personal philosophy is to not participate in activities I do not believe in or have interest in and try to refrain from telling other people how to pursue game. If you have a tag, you are legal to kill an animal.
