I am curious why you can't substitute that data? If it is the same weight, why does it matter? Even if the bullet looks different, it is the same weight and caliber so shouldn't it push down the barrel the same? Are you worried about possibly the jacket being to soft and exploding inside the barrel or something? I don't mean to hijack your thread, and ill start another if you want, but I haven't heard you can't substitute data like that before.

Looking for advice on a 6.5x284
deserthntr replied to JMP's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
BML has a LRH in 6.5x284, so he can tell you more about that. but 6.5's are considered some of the most accurate calibers, and mine shoots 1/4in groups at 100 yds using the berger 140gr VLD's. it is an awesome gun, and you have everything covered from coyotes to elk with it. i have mine set up with a savage 111 action, 27 in. douglas barrel, sss trigger, and a ultimate varmit choate stock. but i am changing the stock cause it is pretty heavy. it cost me about 950, without optics. -

270 long range bullets
deserthntr replied to azcoueshuntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
ive heard good things about them, supposedly they have the highest BC for .277 caliber bullets... but havent heard much else. -
On the cheap end of the spectrum. While it's not a .30 Cal, my 6.5x284 is a 1/4 MOA gun that I built off a 111 action, Douglas barrel, and right now it wears a ultimate varmit choate stock. But I'm gunna get dif of.that and get a laminate soon, and it has a sss trigger.

if the sign in the first place you went was plentiful and recent, stay there, the pigs are somewhere close. time behind the binos is what produces the most results for me. imagine yourself checking out every piece of grass, when you have done that, slow down some more and you will find pigs, they can hide behind the smallest bushes. but ive never hunted the area so i cant help you out there

i definately perfer a ffp mildot with target turrets. this way i can use my mils to hold for wind easier and dial for my yardage. or knowing where my mils are if i have to snap off a quick shot when i cant dial. my buddy smoked his pig at 352 yds this past weekend with my 6.5x284... he forgot to hold for wind the first shot but the second i could tell him hold 1 mil, an exact dot not him guessing what distance he would be holding off the pig, for wind and he smoked it

If you have a 6-284 I would get a 260 or 264. I shoot a 6.5x284 and absolutely love it! But I see a problem with mixing the brass also

It is official. I have joined the dark side.

You don't think that with the short action and the 6.5s liking to be seated way out there will affect feeding issues and fitting in your box? I have my 6.5 built on a LA and my bullets are seated at 3.163. My case has plenty of capacity to seat these shorter but I squoze my accuracy by seating out farther. -
all depends on caliber. for my 6.5x284 i am using h4831 sc. go on hodgen website, look up your caliber and it will tell you what powders and how much you can use. some people like alliant also... just preference, caliber, and what shoots good in your gun

I just recently got one and love it! Shooting 51gr H4831sc with a 140 Berger. A mild load at only 2880 but.missed a squirrel by about 2 in. Yesterday at 1010 yds. Sweet shooting and verrryyyy accurate -
I shoot a versapod. Real steady for me, clips on in 2 sec. And swivels so if the animal runs you can follow it easily

Berger VLD vs Barnes TTSX
deserthntr replied to azcoueshuntr's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
Go with Berger. I've had great success with them. But some people like a more solid bullet that expands and exits with good retained weight. That's how my dad is and so he shoots a nobler partition. I like the bergers because they essentially explode and all the energy goes into the animal. Every animal I have shot or seen shot with these just have chunky soup for vitals. Plus they have great BC -
Go Norma. I shoot lapua but Norma would be my second choice. If not Norma .......nosler I have heard it can be soft tho depending on the batch, so watch for split necks. But that occurred after brass were on their 3rd or so reload. Never shot either Norma or nosler, just repeating what research I have done.
