i worked at discount tire for over 3 years, and am not a fan on bfg at's on heavier trucks, they tend to chunk real easy and low mileage, i hardly ever saw a tire get over 30k, unless it was a light truck( like a colorado) or jeep.the km2's are great tires, but they dont last well on mileage either. toyo's or nittos are definitely the way to go. although those cooper atp's are making a name for themselves... i put a set on my cousins truck and he loves them, says they are quiet and do well in muddy conditions and have held up great, he only has about 10k on them so far tho. michelin at2's tend to start chunking quickly too once you get them on rough road conditions, although they are great for people who spend most of their time on road with the occasional off road. i just put a set of 35x12.5 toyo mt's on my truck, and so far they ride super smooth and are great off road... but i only have 500 miles on them. i dont think i have ever heard anyone complain about toyo's or nittos, unless it was that they were noisy, but they had mud terrains which you gotta expect noise from. all in all i think nitto or toyo makes the best all terrain tire for mileage, grip, and smooth ride. and you cant beat discount tires free replacement warranties, and they price match any quote. i dont work for them anymore so im not promoting them from an employee point of view, but take my opinion as a grain of salt.

These youth camps are definitely great camps!! i went to them when i could still get youth tags, and now take my turn mentoring these kids! its alotta fun to watch their faces light up when they put their first animal on the ground. just as fun as pulling the trigger yourself!- 2 replies

my mistake, for some reason i was thinking of a britt, maybe i can blame it on 6 hours of straight reading for a college class? one of the first things i would do is work on snake training, especially if you plan on using her during dove season and for flushing quail. it could save your dogs life and you alot of heartache. im sure your parents wouldnt be too happy on me suggesting using a live rattlesnake, but maybe your dad would be comfortable helping out on that, otherwise kill one and use it, although it will have a slightly different scent, the dog will get the point if you do it correctly. i use a shock collar at its highest setting for this. but i like to let the dog get downwind and start to investigate. then hit the shock collar at full blast. DO NOT say a word when you do this. the dog has to think its coming from the snake and not you because you told it no, or stay away. i hardly ever use a shock collar besides for this, because the dog can learn its the shock collar causing it, and not the snake, and the dog will hate wearing the shock collar, and sometimes not want to perform because it is afraid of doing something wrong and getting hit with the collar. good luck with the dog, and have fun. i got my first german shorthair when i was 14 and its a blast to put in all the work training and watching it all come together. also, dont push the dog too hard during its first serious season. let the dog have fun and learn from the wild birds, this may mean you get less shots, but it is a sacrifice worth it in the end. the second serious season the dog has is when you need to start enforcing commands seriously, and making the dog do what you want it to do, not what it wants to do. i really believe once you get the basic commands down, the dog will virtually train itself the more wild birds you get it on. -
well i have a little bit of extra cash from my taxes after buying tires for my truck, so i want to re-duracoat my gun. Any suggestions of someone who does good work in the valley? Or other options besides duracoat youd suggest?

to help out we need to know how far she is trained. does she hold her points? is she broke to wing and shot? how is she on her commands? do you have her snaked trained? etc... -
i did notice that the duracoat chipped pretty easy, and i wasnt all to happy with it. sounds like beastmode hydrographics or cerakote is the way to go.
-
i was thinking about going through beastmode and i like the options i have... but how well does it hold up compared to a duracoat? and does the duracoat spray paint hold up well since you wouldnt bake it on?

there is ammo! just hard to find, i bought that gun in november and i love the cartridge... just not overly impressed with the gun itself. if you want one id honestly wait until savage improves the quality of this gun, or another company makes it. the barrel wasnt free floated like advertised, and the plastic stock is super cheezy. i would have ground down the stock to float the barrel but the stock is weak enough as is and i dont want to weaken it more. i can move the forend of the stock around with little effort, and all my screws are tourqued to spec. acurracy is decent, but im getting about 1- 2 in groups at 100. which id expect tighter from such a light recoiling gun. but cant complain its hit all the squirrels and rabbits its been pointed at so far. but the gun definitely doesnt stand up to the savage name. could be i had to high of standards for it tho...

Ill have to see if i can find it and post a pic of it on here! -

i have a under armour "armour storm" jacket that i bought with the intentions of going to visit a buddy in wyoming to hunt geese and waterfowl... due to work i never made it up. its a 260 dollar jacket before taxes, looking to get 200 obo or trades for??? it is in a wetlands pattern. never wore it but to try it on... still has tags on it. size small, but it fits me well and im 5'11 160 lbs for size reference. would love to keep it if it was a different pattern. has a zip on/off hood, and an internal primaloft layer that zips out as well, with tons of pockets. will text pics if you message me your number. and will post pics tomorrow when i get back from hunting.

saw an 04-05 body style black gmc on ellsworth and elliot around 400 oclock today, was waving at you in a work truck that said on track garage doors on the side, but not sure if you saw me...

its fun and good practice... if you only look for animals moving and not the ones standing still you are missing alot of animals. and if you dont like it dont participate in the game?

How many animals have you harvested in Arizona

as of this past friday ive glassed up 13 and called in one while turkey hunting with a buddy a few years ago, a big old tom in to hen yelps! him and 2 others have fell to my guns... the rest have either been shot at by others or no shots presented for others. at 19 years old hopefully ill have a few more killed in the next few years! -
i actually just had this conersation a few days ago with a very good game warden buddy of mine when i glassed a lion and called him so he could come shoot it as i didnt have a rifle or a tag. he said if there is any flesh or hide you are supposed to report it, if they determine it was of natural causes it is yours to keep. if there is any question in the investigation about whether it was shot or died of natural causes and they cant for sure determine it was natural causes then it belongs to the state... the game wardens dont get to keep it, but obviously there are game wardens who arent trustworthy, but for the couple that i know they would not pull such a stunt... but as sated before i dont think they would bat an eyelash at a javelina skull

Well i was able to head out and try to kill a buck with my bow new years eve... glassed a doe and fawn first thing, and then didnt started to get discouraged till i glassed a forky muley pushin around 6 does around 10 am. I got to 100 yds when this coues buck came in and chased off the muley and stole his muley does! I got to 60 yds while the coues was chasin the muley buck away and then a doe led him to 40 yds from me. i drew down and smoked him, so he decided to make a 150 yd death run to the bottom of the canyon of course... watched him go down and watched him a few min to make sure he was down for good. He's nothin huge but I am very happy with him, and was able to continue a 7 yr deer killing streak, hopefully this next season makes 8! the pictures were taken with my phone so i hope the quality is good. i have 3 more deer i helped get killed this year ill post up when i get the chance to type up a story.

Dont skip out glassing mid-day... alot of the bigger bucks ive found have been mid day, getting uo to stretch, feed a little, and move to better shade. This is in august as well, just cause its hot doesnt mean deer wont move in the middle of the day, and because of the cooler weather deer activity during the day definitely goes up. I truly believe alot of bigger bucks bed at first light and get up to feed in the middle of the day when most hunters go home or back to camp for lunch. As for glassing I like to glass at a slightly faster pace then slow wayyyy down for when deer are bedded, and stay slow until I think movement picks back up for the evening. If you can see alot of country, or you know deer are on a certain mountain, stay in your glassing spot all day and memorize and look behind each blade of grass. If I am reglassing a hill and dont remember previously looking at the same spot the first time through, youve gone too fast. I know that goes against my previous statement of glassing quicker... but thats just a quick scan of the country in front of me looking for deer in the open or moving around alot. Then ill slow it way down and go over the country again

Savage BMAG and 17 WSM
deserthntr replied to kazpilot25's topic in Rifles, Reloading and Gunsmithing
I would have to agree with yotebuster... I bought one and it does not stand up to savage's reputation... my barrel that is supposed to be free floated isnt, and it doesn't even run down the center of the stock. I am disappointed in the gun with accuracy as well... I love the cartridge tho, just waiting till there is options to throw a different stock on and get some accuracy out of it, and I think they will be perfect fox and coyote guns -
I killed a lion with a 223 55 gr soft point at 400 yards 5 years ago... I don't think a coues would take anymore than a lion.
