308Nut - Hunted 21 the last two years, quite a bit of pressure in the Table Mesa Road/New River area in November, but December is different of course. Some big bucks in there, I've seen big boys running around in Late December and January. I'll be hunting south of the New River Mesa this November, I'll let you know if I see anything big if you decide to hunt the NR Mesa area.

This is a question I've been wondering too. I guess it depends on the deer, the area, water and feed, but I've seen some desert deer on camera and then have never seen them again. So i'm assuming they travel a lot. Sneaker brings up interesting point about the terrain, but I do not have experience glassing them.

Yes, I agree. I have not bow hunted the area but had issues getting into the unit compared to other units. If your planning on back packing it might be just what your wanting, because of the access issues, you could get away from the crowds, but very few entry points. Are you sure they didn't recommend unit 33?

Elkiny, I had a whitetail tag in 23 the year before last. Didn't see any Muledeer up by the rim. Three other hunters and I were on that dead end road (can't remember the name) off the 260 just past the campgrounds, that heads south and then back west a few miles along a ridge. Met three other hunters in there, few WT does, 1 WT buck...too many elk. No Mule deer. Saw some Mule Deer Does around young. If I drew a tag in that area again I would backpack into the Sierra Anchas Wilderness on the East Side of the road to get away from the people There has to be some Monsters flirting with the National Forest and the Rez. But if you had luck up between Young and the Rim than maybe try that area again. Love that Unit for the size of public land.
