  2. When you fish a Cicada you cast out and hold on tight because the rises are often ferocious! The Green River fish seem to be in great shape and it was definitely a great trip. We stayed at the Flaming Gorge Resort and the staff their are always so nice and genuine. View the full article
  3. With our waters in the Roaring Fork Valley still just a touch high, my friends MJ, Jack and I headed to the Green river below Flaming Gorge Reservoir. The rumor on the street was the Cicada hatch was in full swing and the flows had come down. We fished for 2.5 days and it was unreal! The guys fished Cicadas all day and caught some unbelievable fish. My hands and arms are a bit sore after working the oars but it was an amazing trip. I took a ton of photos of the beautiful fish and the historic canyon. The takes were explosive on the surface and often came with a loud splash! I will be posting several days worth of photos over the next few days. The Green Drakes and awesome caddis hatches are just around the corner and the fishing in Colorado is about to get real good. Check out the awesome reminder of God's creation in the sunset below. View the full article
  4. Summer in Arizona means hot temperatures and rutting Desert Bighorn. It is amazing to see these sheep running around in extreme heat like it doesn't even phase them. We have been doing quite a bit of scouting for these awesome animals during May and June and the anticipation for the rutting season is increasing with each day. Rams seem to come out of the woodwork this time of year. Colburn and Scott Outfitters guide, Darr Colburn, has been capturing some great video and photos of some of these rams. We are excited for the upcoming sheep season this fall! Make sure to get your name in the hat for the Arizona Super Big Game Raffle Desert Sheep permit because the drawing is coming soon. Check out the sweet video footage below captured by Darr Colburn in June 2014 of some rams butting heads as they prepare for the rut. June 2014 Photo by Colburn and Scott Outfitters guide, Darr Colburn In 2013, Claude Warren purchased one ticket in the raffle and his name was drawn! He hired Colburn and Scott Outfitters and harvested the largest Nelsoni Desert Sheep in the State of Arizona's history! Buy your tickets and this could be you! View the full article
  5. The rivers are finally starting to clear and they seem to dropping daily. The water level in the Eagle and the Roaring Fork are still high but great days are just around the corner. Starting to see some caddis in the evenings and the adult green drake hatch is on its way soon. View the full article
  6. I went fishing today with my friends, Jack and L Dean, on the spring creeks. The brown trout were plentiful and eager to come to the net. The water in the creeks is still a bit off color but just about perfect. The big river is still rolling and probably is at least a week out. I am very thankful for good friends, cool streams and brown trout! View the full article
  7. The fishing is starting to heat up in Colorado! Danny Bright and I went out on the Lower Eagle yesterday and floated the raft on her maiden voyage for the year. My hands and shoulders are definitely feeling it today! Dano caught a few nice fish but the river is flowing over 2850 cfs and the shots were few and far between. I bet in another week the clarity will be much better and the pockets will open up. Check out my friend L Dean's photos of a couple of big rainbows he caught here in the Roaring Fork Valley. My net looks little compared to his big rainbows! It is great to see the rivers flowing big and healthy. Over the next week to 10 days things should really open up. 8. We arrived in Colorado to much cooler weather than what we had in the Arizona desert. The snowpack this year is above average and the river flows are still real high. I have been out checking different waters and getting the boat ready. I slipped out today with friends Danny Bright and L Dean Tucker and we managed to find a few fish. Should be a great fishing summer here in Colorado! View the full article

  10. I just returned from a humbling trip on the North Coast of France in the region of Normandy. 70 years ago today the Allied forces set forth to liberate France from Nazi Germany. No words can really express my gratitude for what these men did during those days. This is a trip that I wish every American could take to get a sense of what was done here. June 6th 1944 was a historic day for sure. God Bless the USA! Thanks to all of our Troops and their families for their sacrifices! View the full article
  11. I have been wanting to upgrade the quality of my digiscoping photos for some time now. Back in the fall of 2013, I began eyeballing the Swarovski 95mm Spotting Scope. Just prior to Brian Rimsza's Arizona Rocky Mountain Bighorn sheep hunt last year in Unit 6A, I purchased the Swarovski ATX and 95mm Modular Spotting scope. I also picked up a Canon SL1 to use as the camera for my digiscoping system. Cody at the Outdoorsmans and I went back and forth as to the ATX (angled) and the STX (Straight). I chose the ATX for the sole reason that I thought the downward pressure of the TLS APO adapter would be better for digiscoping. I took the brand new setup up on the hunt and was able to capture some great images of some Rocky Mountain sheep. My optimism was high for the setup and I was able to capture some high quality images compared to my old setup. Let me say that the optical image from the Swarovksi 95 mm is by far the best I have ever experienced. I have owned the two prior models of Swarovski spotting scopes and they continue to lead the industry in optical quality. After using the digiscoping setup for several months, I have come to the conclusion that I need the STX (Staight eyepiece). Here is the main reason why.....When I sit down to glass and find an image to photograph, while on the tripod I can't see the image on the LCD screen. I have to glass from a stool or kneel on my knees. Both can be cumbersome and uncomfortable at times. I should have known and Cody tried to talk me out of the ATX for my application. I can be stubborn at times. I can see the screen perfectly when the post is completely bottomed out but when I switch back and forth to view through the scope with my eye then I need to twist and move the setup. Also, when switching from my binoculars to the spotting scope on the tripod, it is necessary to move the post up and down. This takes time to recapture the image and makes for inefficiencies. I have been out scouting for Desert Bighorns lately and really enjoying my new STX eyepiece. In my mind, I have the best digiscoping system that is currently available. Let me be clear by saying that there is no optical difference when looking through or from my photographs between the ATX or STX. Just a difference in the setup and execution of taking and viewing the images. The light gathering of the 95mm is unparalleled in my opinion. It also amazes me how good the photo is when I crank the zoom up to 70X. I think another hidden gem in the whole setup is the Swarovski TLS APO adapter. I can't wait to use the new digiscoping setup this summer and fall to capture some incredible images. Jay Scott with Swarovski STX and the 95MM topped with the Canon SL1. Here I am using the ATX on Brian's hunt The next three images are through the new Swarovski STX This image was captured through the ATX in December. View the full article

  15. Check out this Arizona Gould's turkey hunt video of Darr and Parker Colburn. We had a great hunt! Darr was able to shoot a fine Gould's turkey with his bow and arrow at 11 yards. More photos and video to come soon. View the full article
  16. I had a ball with Darr and Parker on the Arizona Gould's turkey hunt in Southern Arizona this weekend. We managed to get the bird harvested prior to the big storm that came in. What a blessing that was because I imagine Saturday would have been real tough hunting. Darr made a perfect shot with his Hoyt Bow and the Gravedigger broadhead was absolutely ruthless. Fun Stuff! Mexico Gould's is our next adventure here in a few days with www.GouldsTurkeyHunt.com. Should be a fantastic couple of weeks of hunting. 17. Darr Colburn Check out yet another great product from the guys at KUIU. These guys keep adding to the line. I am totally sold on this company, the people behind it and the products they put out. You will not find better stuff in my opinion. I can't wait to get one of these tents. I think it will be perfect for a back country AZ coues deer hunt! View the full article
  18. By Darr Colburn I picked my boys up early from school on Thursday after a long week of AIMS testing. We headed up for the opener of the AZ Juniors turkey hunt. We drove 3 hours to camp and unloaded the Ranger to go try and roost a bird for the next morning. Just before dark a bird started gobbling across the canyon from us and we headed over to try and pinpoint him. We roosted the bird and marked the spot with the gps. We got within 150 yards of the bird the next morning. The bird started to gobble on his own and then I heard two different UTVs driving the roads. Just before the bird flew down I gave a soft tree call on my slate and the bird never made another sound. We saw the bird fly down and he seemed to be all alone. I was baffled. We started hiking up the ridge and worked our way over to a big canyon. I called and a few minutes later some jakes answered. We moved over towards them and got set up. I told Parker I thought they sounded like jakes. Three jakes came into to 20 yards and looked around. I hit the call and they gobbled. Both boys smiled from ear to ear. Paul asked Parker why he did not shoot and Parker told him he shot a jake last year and really wanted a gobbler. We headed back to camp to eat lunch and take a nap. That evening we headed back out and roosted another bird right before dark. I crept out to the edge of a point and spotted the gobbler up in a tree about 60 yards from the lip of the point. I marked the spot and headed back to the ranger. The bird was roosted in a great spot and I knew we had a really good chance in the morning. We woke up a 2:40 am the next morning in order to get back to where the gobbler was roosted. We got the Dave Smith jake and hen decoys set up and waited for it to get light. The bird started to gobble and we could hear him spitting and drumming on the branch in the dark. It started to get light and a hen started calling to the left of the gobbler. I reached for my slate just as the gobbler pitched out of the tree. I was not ready and he caught me off guard. I quickly hit the slate and the bird gobbled as he hit the ground. A few seconds later he popped out right in front of Parker and he shot him at 25 yards. I really enjoyed the hunt and camping with my boys. They are growing up so fast. Paul will be ten next year and is already talking about turkey hunting next year! View the full article
  19. It was an awesome Resurrection Sunday here in Scottsdale! The Lord has risen and we celebrate it every day. Darr and Parker got out and did some scouting for Darr's upcoming Arizona Gould's turkey hunt that he drew in Southern Arizona. Listen to Parker call at some of these turkeys. We are excited for the opener next Friday as Darr will be attempting to get his Arizona Gould's with his bow and arrow. I am going to film it and Parker is going to be in charge of the decoy setups. Should be an awesome adventure and a warm up for the Mexico Goulds hunts that are right around the corner. Enjoy and Happy Resurrection Sunday! View the full article
  20. Check out this awesome hunt we had this weekend. It was a special weekend hanging with some of my friends and their families. It never gets old spending time chasing gobblers in God's great creation. Watch as Daniel Franco and Brian Rimsza put the smash on a Merriams gobbler! View the full article
  21. On the second evening of the hunt we came across a bear and Brian made a great shot. It is his fourth bear that he has harvested. It was pretty cool experience because his step-son Jarron was with us. View the full article
  22. Water was crucial for finding turkeys on this trip. If we found water we always found turkeys. Turkeys need to drink every single day. Daniel Franco, Brian Rimsza and I had a great morning on the third day of the hunt and I was able to film Brian shooting a turkey with his bow. Those guys are always fun to needle and joke around with. View the full article
  23. DSD Jake and hen decoy. Talk about realistic! Here are some photos of our Merriams hunt in Eastern Arizona on the Ft. Apache. I had a great time hunting with Brian and his step son Jarron. It was amazingly dry up there which is very scary because it is normally one of the wettest spots in the state. Our camp boss, Josh Parker and his wife, absolutely cooked up some fantastic food. I sure hope the monsoons come early and big this summer. We could use an El Nino pattern................ View the full article
  24. Check out this awesome encounter we had this weekend while hunting with Jarron on his first turkey hunt! The DSD's got pummeled. View the full article
