  3. We had a fun time hunting Gould's Turkeys in Mexico with friends Bob and Carole. Bob got his Gould's on the first afternoon with his bow and Carole got a double the next afternoon. Bob's video is unreal with the Magnus bullhead shot to the neck and the blood that is squirting out all over the DSD jake decoy. Pretty Wild! Go to our sister site GouldsTurkeyHunt.com or on our Goulds Turkey Hunt facebook page for more photos on our exciting hunt. 6. By Darr Colburn My mom and dad both grew up around Kearney, Nebraska. My grandmother who will be 88 soon still lives in Kearney. My boys had never been to Nebraska and I wanted to show them our family roots. Last time I visited I could not believe the amount of turkeys I saw. A trip was planned to visit family and take my boys turkey hunting, two things that are very important to me. We flew into Denver and drove the 5 hours to Kearney. We saw no less than 30 different gobblers on the drive! We got in around 7pm and ran out to meet my friend Shay McGowan who invited us to hunt on his property. We met up with Shay and roosted a couple birds for the next morning. The first morning my brother and his son headed to one blind while Parker and I went to another. It started raining right after first light and my brother texted us that he had shot a nice gobbler with his bow. Parker got his chance around 9:30 am when a gobbler and hen came into the calling and decoys. The bird saw movement as Parker drew his bow and was walking when Parker shot. The arrow sailed high right over his back. The weather turned bad so we headed back for the day to spend time with the family. The next morning a bird was gobbling on the roost and we set up in a blind about 300 yards from the roost. Again as it got light the rain started. The birds stayed in the tree a little later than normal but eventually came in to my calling. Paul made a great shot and we had the second bird of the trip down. We called in a couple more birds but Parker never got another shot. The property we hunted was an island on the Platte River. The river was about 200 yards across. To access the property we had to ride a gondola like platform that hung from a couple of steel cables across the river. The gondola was powered by a Honda motor located on top of the gondola. The gondola hung about 15-20 feet above the river. We had a great time on our trip to Nebraska. While watching the news the night before we left I noticed that they have an outdoors section on the newscast that they show hunting pictures and fishing reports. I believe more kids are exposed to hunting and fishing due to things like this. We will definitely be back to the Heartland of America where the people are friendly and the turkeys are plentiful! Old barn and farm house out in the country. Gondola loaded with Paul's Gobbler about to head back across the Platte River. There were lots of ticks out. We sprayed down with OFF before heading out each morning. Paul's Nebraska Rio Grande turkey. Parker "Getting Serious" in the Double Bull blind waiting for a gobbler to show up. Nebraska Gobbler Albino bearded hen we saw the last morning on another farm. Happy turkey hunter Paul Colburn with his Nebraska Rio Grande turkey. Looking across the Platte River towards the island we hunted. View the full article

  8. I had the fortune of helping my good friend, Casey Brooks, on his Arizona Auction Gould's Turkey Hunt for 2015. We had a great hunt and many laughs were shared. Casey harvested a really nice Gould's turkey that came strutting into the Dave Smith Decoys with his Hoyt bow at a distance of about 12 yards. Casey is one of the most distinguished bowhunters in the world with over 63 archery bull elk and a Archery North American Super Slam under his belt. We recorded a podcast episode for the Jay Scott Outdoors Western Big Game Hunting and Fishing Podcast on archery elk hunting that will be airing soon. Check out the video below of Casey's awesome hunt. Cabelas Spring Thunder will be featuring the hunt in its entirety on this Monday's episode. 10. By Darr Colburn We had a great time hunting turkeys this past weekend on the White Mountain Apache reservation. Michael Turner who won the raffle Gould's tag had purchased tags along with his friend to hunt out of the Sunrise camp on the White Mountain Apache reservation. Michael shot his Gould's early the first day with Jay and headed to the White Mountain to hunt. They arrived several days before the hunt started and a family member had some health issues so they headed home. They offered the tags to Jay but he had already committed to go to the Maverick camp with some other friends so he offered the tags to my boys Parker and Paul. We jumped at the chance to go up and hunt the reservation. My boys were so excited for the opportunity! We packed up and left Thursday afternoon to hunt for three days. Paul connected on his first turkey right off the roost after he came in strutting and beat up the Dave Smith jake decoy. Here is the video of Paul's hunt. I will post more pictures and the video of Parker's hunt later. We had a great hunt with our guide Bernard and his son Brandon. View the full article

  12. I am proud to announce our partnership with Cabelas Spring Thunder, which is a weekly webisode all about Spring turkey hunting. We have contributed video footage from our spring turkey hunts for several years to our friends who produce the show at MidwestWhitetail.com. Aaron Warbritton is the host of the show and he does a fantastic job of creating a entertaining, informative and very educational show. Aaron in his own right is one of the best turkey callers and hunters in this country. In the March 2 Episode of Cabelas Spring Thunder, titled Scouting Homework, he features a some Gould's turkey hunt footage from some of our hunts last season at GouldsTurkeyHunts.com. Watch below. My nephews, Will and Jay Pyburn, and I head to Central California this coming week to hopefully bag a couple of Rio Grande gobblers on the California Spring Turkey Opening weekend. We will be filming the hunt and hopefully be able to capture some good footage for the show. Make sure to follow Cabelas Spring Thunder this season! 13. Ok I guess I will bite...If my one elk client a year (maybe 2 if I am fortunate to book a early rifle hunter) is single handedly ruining elk hunting in Arizona by working hard and harvesting a nice bull then I guess we are all doomed. I know a lot of guides in Arizona and for the most part they are some of the most honest and hardest working individuals that I know. I am not sure what spurs your bitterness but I think everyone is entitled to an opinion. Good Day!
  14. Guys I appreciate the support! I am a proud sponsor of this site. Flastaffer, I am a sinner just like the rest, I have done many wrong and will continue to do so because of my sinful nature. I am saved only by the Grace of God. You can say whatever you want behind a anonymous title and get your thrills but those that know me take some good with alot of bad and for that I am grateful. Again I wish you the best.
  15. flagstaffer, I am sorry you don't like what I do. I am not sure who you are but I wish you the best.
  16. I had the pleasure of tagging along with KUIU President Jason Hairston on his archery elk hunt in Montana this September. This is the professionally edited version of our hunt. I brought my video camera and filmed most of the hunt. Great time with Jason and guides Jack Anderson and Cody Wetmore. The credits list me as a guide although I was just there as a friend and video guy. The laughs on this hunt were plentiful. View the full article
  17. Today has been a weird turn of events. There are some things that happen in life that you just cant understand or explain. Sometimes it is best to just scratch your head and keep plugging. These photos below are from our second week of coues deer hunting in Mexico. Dan Boyd harvested a real sweet 4X3 buck at 252 yards. Make sure to check out the video below of Dan's hunt. Master Chef and guide, Darr Colburn, kept us well fed with backstraps from the deer. We saw two lions on this hunt. I saw one of them which makes my 38th mountain lion I have seen in the field. Awesome people, great country and good times! View the full article
  18. As I sit here and write this blog post I cant help but think about the upcoming elk season this fall with the Arizona Elk and Antelope draw due to come out soon. Credit cards have already been hit and most people know that at least they have drawn a coveted tag. The question that most are wondering is whether they drew their first or second choice. I thought I was guiding a hunter in Unit 9 for the archery hunt but my hunter had his plans change so my September plan is still in limbo. The anticipation for the upcoming season is always high! Especially with some of the timely storms that have fallen in the last couple of months. Even though winter was mild, us optimists are hoping that mild winter with early and late spring rains will produce better antlers than last year. Only time will tell to see how it shakes out. I had an awesome time with my nephews, Will and Jay Pyburn, this weekend for the spring turkey hunt opener in California. We drove roughly 600 miles to have our hunt last about 10 minutes. We had gobblers roosted and four of them flew down and came right to our Dave Smith Decoys. They actually knocked the DSD Jake and Strutter over and had their way with the hen decoys. Watch the video in this post to see the action unfold. We had a very special time as always with our gracious hosts and friends Craig and Ronell Ainley. They are actually coming to hunt Gould's turkeys with me in Mexico in May this season. We are all really looking forward to that. I found a turkey mouth call that I really like from Pollard's Elite Calls called the Original Pollard Batwing. It is real easy to use and makes me sound better than normal. Check out the video of the boys hunt in California! View the full article
