  5. This is a great video depicting the AZGFD and their efforts to sustain and relocate desert bighorn sheep. Special thanks to the Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society for all of their contributions and support! These sheep were relocated in October of 2012. I got to see there efforts first hand while scouting in Unit 22 for Ernie's hunt. Helicopter surveys are extremely valuable to our herds. These sheep were relocated from Unit 22 and 24B by Canyon Lake to Unit 37B in the Mineral Mountains. View the full article
  6. Check out this awesome hunt with friends Brian and Tyler Davis of Fowl Play Taxidermy. This is Tyler's first turkey. My nephews and I have had some great hunts with Craig and Ronell over the years. Both Tyler and Will's hunts were featured on Cabelas Spring Thunders weekly show. Their hunts are at about the 9:15 mark. The host of the show, Aaron Warbritton, is doing a great job with the series. View the full article
  7. Check out my nephew Will's 2013 California turkey hunt. Will showed great poise letting me get some footage of this good looking bird as he struts up to the Dave Smith Decoys. Also, I am putting a APB out for a Arizona Unit 9 archery elk tag holder to guide. I guess I got a little snobby and turned down many other guiding opportunities in other units hoping for the prized jewel of elk tags in Unit 9. I am available to guide on the archery elk hunt! 9. Darr and I had a great hunt and adventure this weekend in Sonora, Mexico for Gould's turkeys. Our hunter, Bill Wohlers, from Iowa harvested two beautiful Gould's and completed his Royal Slam. The birds were not quite completely fired up but both of these birds came in to our calls. The Gould's are notorious for their white band on their tail feathers. I don't think there is another turkey that compares in beauty. We look forward to more Gould's adventures in a couple of weeks. Congrats to Bill on his Royal Slam! View the full article
  10. By Darrr Colburn I was down at the Outdoorsmans yesterday and picked up a great new gadget if you have an I Phone 4/4S. Kowa is making an I Phone adapter that comes with rings that fit my Swarowski Spotting Scope and Swarovski 15X binoculars. They are also coming out with a ring that will fit on the Kowa Big Eye 32X binoculars. The Outdoorsmans has these adapters in stock and they are $82.99. I will post some pics and video over the next few weeks as I get the setup out in the field. Thank you to the Outdoorsmans for staying on top of the latest and greatest gear and providing amazing customer service. View the full article
  11. My nephews, Jay and Will, and I, had a great spring turkey hunt in Central California with our friends Craig and Ronell. The gobbling action was fast and furious. We were also joined by Ronell's daughter and son in law, Brian and Tyler Davis, of Fowl Play Taxidermy. Tyler got her first turkey. Stay tuned for some great videos of our hunt. View the full article
  12. Below is the next exercise in How to Field Judge and Score Bull Elk. These photos were taken by Colburn and Scott Outfitters. There are several different angles from this Arizona Bull Elk. What is this bulls gross score? What are his point measurements? What are his mass measurements? How long are the main beams? How about Inside Spread? How does the rack look compared to his body? Post your guesses and scores here by clicking the post title, "Field Judging Elk and Scoring Elk Antlers 4" or go to Colburn and Scott Outfitters Facebook Page Left Antler Angle Right Antler Angle Front On Antler Angle Rear Antler Angle Click the post title above to leave your guess or put your score on our facebook page. I will post the results in a few days. As much as I love to pour over the numbers and analyze data it is important to keep in mind that the thrill of the hunt, getting to enjoy God's creation and spending time with friends is the thing that keeps us coming back for more. Try to not let score determine whether the hunt is a success or failure. 13. By Darr Colburn Well it is that time a year again when the temperatures are warming up here in Phoenix. The desert is very green and beautiful because of all the rain we have had. My boys Parker and Paul have spring break this week so it was time to make our first fishing trip of the year. We have gone on a fishing trip the past 4 years on spring break. My dad always took me fishing on my spring break when I was growing up and those trips produced some great memories. I love keeping family traditions going so we decided to head over to Roosevelt Lake for a couple of days. We stopped in at The Tackle Box in Tonto Basin for some minnows and a current fishing report. We were on the lake by 7:30am and headed to the north end to try for some crappie. We trolled around with the other boats for a couple of hours and did not do any good. We only saw a couple of crappie caught so we moved down the lake to try for some bass. We fished for bass the rest of the day and caught a few but the fishing was a little slow. The boys took turns driving the boat to different spots and we just enjoyed being out on the water. We pulled off the lake just before dark and grabbed a burger at the Butcher's Hook restaurant for dinner. The next morning we were on the lake at 7am and started trolling again for crappie. Parker hit the first crappie of the day just after we started fishing. Parker had the right setup going, landing 3 fish before Paul and I hooked anything. We trolled around for a couple of hours and picked up a few crappie and bass. Mid morning we moved out to some main lake points and fished for bass before heading home in the afternoon. The boys and I had a great time on the lake and I look forward to many more trips together. View the full article

    Unit 9 Guide

I have obviously been watching this post and I completely agree with Jim. I am really concerned that this topic and thread could start to get "chippy". It is obvious everyone has their favorites. CWT is the best site on the web so lets not open this up to a "can of worms". I feel all the guides/outfitters mentioned are very qualified and good hard working guys. I think everyone that has been mentioned could give a great hunt but lets not turn this into one of these threads that we see on other sites that spirals downward. We (Colburn and Scott) are honored to be mentioned but lets keep this post moving in a positive direction. Gobble Gobble
  16. This is an exciting time of year because hunters that apply for Arizona Elk and Antelope start getting credit card hits and the anticipation of the coming season begins to build. We too are eagerly awaiting the elk draw to be finally released. We feel that this year will be a good elk year because of the timely storms that we have had. Obviously some other guys felt the same way judging from the first Arizona Auction Elk tag that was purchased for a whopping $385,000.00 at this years RMEF convention in Las Vegas, NV. The second tag will be auctioned off this Saturday at the Arizona Elk Society's annual fundraiser. We keep getting asked what tags are we looking forward to the most at Colburn and Scott Outfitters, our answer is simple, Unit 9 Archery and Unit 9 Muzzleloader. If you are fortunate to have drawn one of these tags we would like to hear from you. In the meantime its back to GOBBLE GOBBLE..........
