AZ Gould's Turkey Scouting Pics
Jay Scott posted a topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
By Darr Colburn Parker and I went down to Southern AZ to do some scouting for my Gould's turkey hunt in a few weeks. We arrived mid afternoon and found a nice gobbler with hens at our first stop. We soon heard our first gobble of the season. We headed off to another spot and found a group of jakes. I let Parker do some calling with his new diaphragm that he got at the Desert Christian Archers turkey seminar. Parker was able to call in the jakes to about 40 yards. The jakes gobbled several times. Parker was excited that the birds answered his calling and came in. He is hooked on calling and commented that this is how turkey hunting should be. We ended up seeing several gobblers and found some good spots to hunt. We had a great time and are looking forward to turkey season. Parker has a juniors tag in two weeks and my hunt starts the weekend after. We will be busy chasing gobbles in a couple weeks. We slept out on cots under the stars. Temps were in the 30's Our good friend Tyler Hall joined us on Sunday View the full article -

CA Turkey Hunt Photos with my nephews
Jay Scott posted a topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
I had an absolute ball with my nephews this weekend on the California Spring Turkey hunt. We had a once in a lifetime experience when two gobblers got so close they ran into the video camera while locked up fighting. If you didn't catch it check out our video on the post below. My cousins son, Clayton hung with us and it was great to see our good friend and host, Craig. California is in a severe drought and it is sad to see the hard times that have fallen on ranchers and farmers in the area. I really hope the Good Lord sends some rain quick. We were covered up in strutting gobblers and the gobbling was very good. Will got a great bird with his shotgun and Jay missed one with his bow. The DSD jake got his head pecked off by some bullies. Love this time of year. Mountain merriams are next on the target list.......can't wait! View the full article -

My wife Jeanne loves it when these sweet little beauties need a bath in her kitchen sink. It is one of my favorite times of year again and the festivities begin tomorrow. I am headed to California to take my nephews Jay and Will on our annual turkey hunt. I have been busy with real estate and I am a little behind in my preparation. The DSD decoys love to be washed in warm water and patted down with a soft cloth. They actually start purring every time I do it to them.................... Its on like a fat kid on a cupcake. Gobble Gobble! Stay tuned for photos and video of the great adventure! Look how little these little turkeys were at one time. They sure have grown into fine young men and I am very proud of both of them. We are going to go thru a side a beef a day with these two eating. Should be a great time enjoy God's creation! Spring Break Bass Fishing
Jay Scott posted a topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
By Darr Colburn Paul Colburn and Parker Colburn with the first bass of the day. Well its that time of year again when the desert is starting to green up and my boys are on spring break. This means it is time to go fishing! Parker, Paul and I decided to head to Roosevelt Lake for some bass fishing. We stopped in Punkin Center at the Tackle Box to see what the fish were hitting. The owner got us dialed in and showed us a couple of tricks to rigging up. We got on the water a little after 7am. The temperature was in the 40s and a little chilly when we started fishing. Senko rigged wacky style with a ring to make it last longer. We started catching fish in 5-10 feet of water. The water was clear in parts of the lake and off colored in other parts. We caught fish in both. We only saw a couple of fish on their beds. There were quite a few boats on the water. The weather could not have been any better. The temperature stayed nice due a little cloud cover. We fished the Windy Hill area of the lake. The boys took turns driving the boat. The fishing was steady all day. We got off the water about 6pm and headed back home. Another great day spent in the outdoors with my boys. Paul with a large mouth bass Windy Hill shows how low the water level is Four Peaks in the distance Smallmouth release Parker caught this fish on a Texas rigged lizard in the brush.Parker with a nice smallmouth bass. If you are a student of the game like I am, you will get a ton out of this video. These guys can flat out call. I went in 2013 personally to hear them and was blown away at the skill level of some of these guys. ) View the full article -

The official score of Claude Warren's incredible AZ Super Raffle Desert Ram is in! His official gross score is 185 3/8 and 181 1/8 Net. I believe this makes his ram the largest Nelsoni Desert Sheep ever harvested in the State of Arizona. Honestly, this ram never ceases to surprise me. It was an honor to video and photograph him and then get a chance to hunt him. He did his best to vanish and zig when we zagged but we were very fortunate. Darr and I would like to thank Claude Warren for putting his trust in us with his coveted tag and being such a great guy. Thanks to Fred Ashurst for his friendship and hanging with us. We would like to thank the AZ Super Big Game Raffle, Arizona Desert Bighorn Sheep Society and the Arizona Game and Fish Department for taking care of our precious wildlife. I can't wait to see Claude's ram once it is mounted by Clay Goldman of Mogollon Taxidermy. Official Measurements: Right Horn-40 0/8, 16 0/8, 15 4/8, 10 4/8, 10 0/8=92 0/8 Left Horn-38 7/8, 16 1/8, 15 1/8, 13 6/8, 9 4/8=93 3/8 185 3/8 Gross and 181 1/8 Net An interesting thing to note is that the 2nd quarter on the right side fell smack dab in the deepest part of the chip and he loses 3 2/8 on that measurement alone. I would be lying if I said we knew this sheep was as big as he is. The simple fact that sheep even close to this big aren't known to be in this unit. It would be like a 440 bull elk coming out of Unit 4A. When I first saw him, I was just trying to get good footage so that we could evaluate him later. I can tell you that the last time I saw the ram right before Claude harvested him he looked like a monster. This hunt was so much more than score but it sure was exciting to get to be a part of a once in a lifetime experience. Lord willing we will be back on the mountain chasing sheep soon! I finally finished editing the video of Brian's Arizona Rocky Mtn Sheep hunt in Unit 6A. Matt Cutlip, a very accomplished hunter and Brian's friend, was able to capture the awesome hunt sequence where Brian shoots the ram at 23 yards with his Elite bow. Thanks to Matt and our other friends for all of their help on this hunt. The live pre-hunt footage of the ram was filmed by Brian and myself while scouting. I hope you enjoy the video! It was a great pleasure to Coues deer hunt in Mexico with KUIU's President and Founder, Jason Hairston. After getting to spend all week with him, I quickly realized that his passion for his business of creating Ultralight hunting gear is unparalleled. Jason was up for anything when it came to searching for his deer and we covered lots of country until we finally found the buck that he harvested. Nate Simmons, of Western Hunter TV captured the whole hunt on video. It was exciting to hear of all of the new products in the pipeline and all that goes into each piece of KUIU gear. The technology, breakthrough fabrics and Jason's passion are what set KUIU apart from all of the others. AZ Archery State Record Rocky Mtn Bighorn Sheep Video
Jay Scott posted a topic in Jay Scott Outdoors/Colburn and Scott Outfitters
Brian Rimsza had his AZ Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep panel scored today and it ties the current state record at 176 4/8 Official Net and 178 1/8 Gross. This is a great honor for Brian who is a very accomplished bowhunter and he worked really hard on this hunt and I am very proud of him. He put in lots of time scouting and was totally prepared for this hunt. He literally "left it all out on the field" on this hunt. His goal from the beginning privately was to find a ram that would rival the awesome current state record ram held by another very accomplished archery hunter Barry Sopher. I have to say that the wind was let out of our sails a bit when both our #1 and #2 rams were harvested on the first hunt. We thought that the #3 "Long Ram" was going to be very close but we were really worried about the large chip on his left horn. Check out the awesome video below that our friend Jed Larson produced for Brian of his hunt. Congrats to Brian and Nicole Rimsza for this accomplishment and thanks for letting me be involved with your adventure! View the full article -

I am selling two of my Swarovski products: Swarovski 15X56 Binoculars with Outdoorsmans stud installed (Asking Price $1350.00) and Swarovski STS 80 HD Spotting Scope with 20X-60X eyepiece (Asking $2250.00). Both are in great condition. I have attached photos of each item. Please send me an email at jayscottoutdoors@gmail.com if you would like to view them in person. I am confident that the new owner will like their condition. The spotting scope glass is very clean and free of scratches. The eyepiece was recently sent back to Swarovski because a small piece of the rubber had some wear on it. They replaced the rubber eyepiece. The scope looks new. The 15X56 binoculars below are in good condition and were sent back to Swarovski because on the left objective their was a small nick in the rubber. They replaced the whole rubber coating on the binoculars and they even smell brand new. I am the original owner of these binoculars and spotting scope. They have an Outdoorsmans stud already installed and included. The black bag looks a little dirty but is on good condition. The binoculars always go in that case and then in my pack. I am in the Scottsdale, AZ area. Please email with questions or offers jayscottoutdoors@gmail.com View the full article
