The Federal Government’s efforts to reintroduce the Mexican Gray Wolves into the wilds and forests of western New Mexico and eastern Arizona has not become the success that wildlife managers had hoped it would. Twelve years after Mexican Gray Wolves were reintroduced into western New Mexico and eastern Arizona, their dwindling numbers are putting the population “at risk of failure,” says a recent report by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Factors such as the rigid borders of the endangered wolves’ recovery area, removal of wolves to protect livestock, and illegal shooting of wolves are keeping the only wild population of Mexican Gray Wolves from growing, says the “conservation assessment,” released last month. The known population of wolves hit a high of 59 in 2006 but then began dropping, falling to 42 last year. The project has cost taxpayers $20-million or more since the wolves were first released in 1998. Now officials and others are seeking a way to move the wolf program further from its origin as a way to rescue the subspecies, and instead create a viable wild population. The Wolf Recovery program is planning to release several more wolves sometime this summer in an effort to continue to grow the wild Mexican wolf population. Mysouthernaz.com

San Carlos rez permits are based on a calendar day. I have an annual for the rez already but a special use permit is required for black river which I think is $20.00 and it is only for day use, no camping.

I am thinking about going up through the reservation on Saturday. Has anyone been down by the pump station this year?

I kinda liked the "nickname" SPEEEEEDGOATS! I also like carp deer, gray ghost, smallies etc. No disrespect. Good luck on your tag. The one pictured above is a brute! 16 bonus points and still no tag. -

+ 1 on adding some hand calls or even nothing but hand calls. Try the cottontail call by primo. Works great when you spot varmits at a distance and need to get them closer. Or even start with it then go to the Varmit call. 2 cents -
Nothing like good prompt service!

squirrel

Unit 31 has alot of Abert's or Tassel Eared Squirrels. Try Trip Cannon anywhere past Dick's Cabin all the way to the top. Dick's Cabin no longer exists but there is a concrete slab still present. Driving up the mountain near Riggs is also good. 10/22 with a scope is alot of fun! Take alot of ammo cause they hide well in the trees. 12ga is ok but lacks the sport of picking them off. -
Which unit are you trying to get drawn on

DITTO from buffhunter! December! -
I have some of the new MRE's and they are great. Not all of them but most of them are good. It is nice to have a hot meal up on the hill. I also like to pack jerky and Walmart trail mix.

I checked out Kipor on the internet and I did not find anything real negative about these generators and the cost was anywhere from $500 to $900 cheaper then the Honda with the same options. Thanks

Well I have purchased an RV and need a generator. So what do I go wth? The cheaper loud industrial type or the expensive compact quiet units like Honda or Yamaha?

Dec. rifle or bow is the only way to go but as you say the tags a hard to draw. I have hunted alot in Nov. which is almost always my second choice. If the weather is cool then your chances of seeing a good buck are better but when it is warm or even hot your chances I feel are diminshed due to the bigger bucks moving more at pre-dawn, dusk or even at night. So if you want to get a chance at one of these bucks you better be set up early and be out late. Last year I found bucks rutting pretty hard by Dec. 19th and finally took the buck on my Avatar on Dec. 26th. Just like 308nut said it took a long time and alot of work due to the deer moving all the time chasing does from one ridge to the next. I took my first big buck in Nov. of 99 but the weather was unseasonably cool. Good luck on the draw. my 2 cents.

Thanks for the response I am not set on the indusrtial as of yet. I did pull up the specks and the honda's and Yamaha's use half the fuel for the same run time. I will look at the other brand mentioned and see what they are all about. My biggest thing is having enouph output to run the A/C.

I do not like the noisey generators either and have sat in camp listening to the neighbors run all night. But on the other hand I can not see spending an extra K for a generator that is queit. I need at least a 3K to run the a/c if need be.

Great catch Standman! I was also on Apache over the weekend but did not have near the luck you did. A day on the water is always better than any other day unless I am chasing big game!

The crappie bite for us was no where to be found so we went bass fishing. It took us awile to find bass only caught three and missed a few, but it only took one fish to make the trip worth while. 8 lbs even then released for another day!
