Info on 23 Jr deer camp

I've been a serial "Lurker" here for years and have told myself this is the year I become more active, so here it goes. I just watched "Wild and Raw" on the Outdoor Channel for the first time, and was a bit surprised at what was a blatant unethical and illegal hunting practice being portrayed. It's not the first time that I've seen this type of "Hunting" on a tv show and am curious on how others feel about it. Here's what happened: The host's wife is shown hunting Mule Deer in South Dakota, and they locate a herd with a decent buck in it. They show her in the prone position and her husband giving her a range of 360+ yards, she shoots and clearly misses. They then show her picking up her rifle and running towards the truck so they can obviously drive to another spot to attempt to gain an advantage and get another shot at the deer. They obviously were successful in getting to a better location because she ended up killing the buck. So I went to the South Dakota Game and Fish webpage and looked up the 2010 regs and sure enough I find in the regs the following: "No one may use a motor vehicle to chase, harass, intercept, pursue or disturb big game" just like we have here in Arizona. My opinion is that the editors of these shows certainly aren't doing hunting any great service by showing this type of behavior. More importantly it certainly doesn't qualify as "Fair Chase". Any thoughts?

Great job to all. It just doesn't get any better than that, does it?

I was at Cabelas last night and apparently the ammo shortage is over. At least it is at Cabelas (for now). Just a heads up if anyone needs any.

I filled my tag with this guy Sunday afternoon. The bugling was sporadic at best, but seems to be picking up. I will be going back up Friday and staying until the hunt is over. Looks like I will be camp cook and pack mule for the rest of the season and be happy to do it.

I have too many packs and this one needs to find a new home. It is an older model 2200, but is in excellent condition. Very little sign of wear. I'm in Chandler. $110. SOLD

What a disservice to such a majestic animal.

Ditto to what DotShot said. I too was in the Mildred Peak area with my sons (one of which has an October tag and the other has a December tag). We hiked 2 miles into the "foot access only" area on the Santa Margarita only to find that there were 5 atv's in there. With my boys work and school schedules we were only able to get away for a few hours on Sunday to hunt. I did glass up a buck at about 1200 yards, and we put a stalk on him but things didn't work out. Hopefully in December the traffic in the "foot access" area will be by those traveling on foot and the results we be better.

36C December whitetail....... crapped out on everything else. Certainly could have been worse.

I have one as well. It is hard on the shoulder and the wallet, but is well worth it. If you add a muzzle brake it really tames the beast.
