I was born and raised in Yuma and grew up hunting the KOFAs. I cut my teeth in the KOFAs and it used to be phenomenal mule deer hunting until the lions moved in 5 years ago. They have desimated the sheep and deer herds. Because the KOFAs are a "national wildlife refuge" you are not allowed to hunt the lions.

Ditto! What goes around comes around. Everyone gets there comeupins.

This is great. I love seeing people get all spun up. The only thing better is when someone posts a picture of a game camera thief.

Mexico is planning to release five wolves near AZ
yumabowhunter replied to jcarter's topic in The Campfire
This is GREAT! Now we can pop any wolf we see and just claim its a non-native Mexican wolf. Should be blessing in disguise. -
We just got back from a great antelope hunt this last weekend in northern New Mexico. It was me and my oldest boy, my cousin and his boy and two good friends. We were seeing antelope, elk, deer, turkerys and bears. We probably looked at 30 antelope bucks a day. On the third day I finally found one I wanted. After a couple warning shots the buck made a fatal mistake by not running for the next county. He decided to stop broadside at 380 yards and that was all it took. This is my glassing crew perched on the crows nest. Every now and then they would lose their focus but they were having fun. Two blood thirsty little boys.

It doesnt get much better than this! We spent 5 days turkey hunting with all the family along. Had a great time. A couple more years and he may not need dad's help. Almost lost the help when I told them they had to take a bite. Had a WHOLE LOT of this going on between calling spots.

2010 Unit 10 December Archery deer hunt.
yumabowhunter replied to elkaholik13's topic in Mule Deer Hunting
Let me start by saying that I hope you get your antlers back. After reading numerous stories like this Im inclined to think that if Im ever in your situation there is no way Im calling a game and fish officer. I know it sounds horrible and Im not advocating poaching or any activity that is unethical but it just is not right what the game and fish is doing to you guys. You should be commended for putting in the time and effort for trying to retrieve your game and not abandoning it. I think its great that you kept after it and should be praised not penalyzed. This is yet another example of the ludicrous government intervention in our lives and our sport. I will definately take the other option is ever in your situation. Good luck I hope it works out for you. Mitch Ford -
Poachers beware
yumabowhunter replied to archerycrazy's topic in Political Discussions related to hunting
Nice to see Yuma in the news for something positive. I think stiffer penalties is a great idea for the idiots wanting to poach. -
This was the best hunt we've had in a long time when it comes to the rut. The first two days of the hunt, which was Saturday and Sunday, the deer were FIRED up! The bucks were chasing does from sun up to sun down. Of course it probably helped that the temperature never got over 35 degrees for those two days. During those first 2 days we glassed up at least 10 different bucks each day. After that the temps started to rise and the deer slowed down a little bit but it was still good hunting. This was a buck we found within the first hour of glassing. He was so excited he just kept chasing the hot doe in circles on the mountain. This mountain had a lot of deer on it. I glassed up this small 3 point sound a sleep on the side of a mountain. Steve (left) shot this great buck opening morning. Found this buck in some lower country with a couple does. I shot my buck above the clump of trees in between the binocs and rifle. He had 2 feeding does with him. This was the first time I had used the "claw" and it was great. He started out as a 3 by 3 but ended up as a 3 by 2. After the first shot the deer hunched up and dove forward behind a juniper tree. I waited for 30 minutes before heading up the mountain feeling sure that he was done. Well..........when I got to where I had shot the buck and was standing there looking at the blood trail I heard something. It was the buck getting up from underneath a tree above me. The shot had gone into the low shoulder and into the brisket but he took off on his 3 good legs. He was headed around the edge of the mountain so I went to throwing lead. The first shot was high and took the point off his right side. The next shot caught him behind the ribs and went forward to the opposite shoulder folding him up.

yumabowhunter replied to Longrange shooter's topic in Coues Deer Hunting in Arizona
D West is an AWESOME unit. I hunted it 2 years ago and have that tag again this year. Its a rough unit with big country but it hold a lot of deer. Out of all the units we have hunted up there it definately held the most deer. Good luck it should be fun. -
Ive saw 2 of them on the San Carlos during a spring turkey hunt. It would sure be a shame is one them wound up on the wrong end of a bullet....crying shame.

"Officer......Im serious that guy got between my bullet and the deer!" -

I bought one 2 weeks ago in the .223 caliber. I love it. I put a Leupold 4.5-14 Vari X III on it and it shoots excellent groups. I just smoked a coyote this morning with it @ 200 yards. It was not an expensive rifle and you get what you pay for. The action is not real smooth but for the money it seems to be a great varmit gun.

Left at sunup last Sunday to take the wife and kids quail hunting. We had some beautiful weather and lots of birds. Who needs bird dogs when you have 2 little boys Bodee did not want to part ways with the rabbit. He was convinced it could be our new pet. Doesnt get much better than eating lunch under a tree in a wash. Dont ask me why they felt they needed to take their shirts off. Teaching Tayt to shoot his .410 Couldnt even make it home before all 3 crashed out.
