    San Carlos Bear Unit C

Where are all you guys headed this year? Myself and a couple of buddys are headed to unit27 a couple of days before the opener to get in a little scouting and hopefully find a few 400 pounders to bag on opening morning! See ya'll out there. Scottyboy
  2. Today, I was working down south of Arivaca off of Tres Bellotas rd. At about 2pm,I was sitting on the side of a hill glassing for illegals. Of course I was also looking for big bucks too!!! Anyway, I saw this stock tank about 500 yards away and began to glass around it just for the heck of it. There happened to be 2 coues does down there at the waters edge. I bagan to watch them and I saw something that I had never seen before. They would get into the knee deep water and begin jumping around in the middle of the tank like bucking horses!! They would run full tilt into the tank and spin around and around! They would jump sraight up and see who could make the biggest splash! They would chase each other around the tank and then they would both bounce into the middle. They did this for about 30 minutes.I think they were just happy to see a little bit of water in the region. It was quite amusing to say the least! They reminded me of a couple of baby goats the way they were playing. Have any of you ever seen this type of humorus behavior in deer before. It was something that made my day. Scottyboy

Thanks boys for all the replys. Sounds like I got more info. than I know what to do with!!I am going to give it another month or so to cool off a bit and start scouting for sure. I am headed to unit 27 in a month to try and bag me a nice bruin and get my mountain legs underneath me for this fall. On a side note, while all of y'all are out this fall in the hills looking for bucks, keep a sharp eye out for some coveys of Mearns for me!! I, honestly, would almost rather get out there and chase those birds any day over a buck! Now don't get me wrong boys, I love a good buck as much as the rest, but I have a passion for quail hunting behind my dogs. So, if you happen to come across a fair # of them somewhere out there, don't forget about me!!! Again, thanks for the info. It will be used. Scottyboy

Hey guys, I've been lurking around this site for awhile now and figured I'd finally throw out a post or two. I know many of you from the MonsterMuleys forum, so not everyone here is a stranger. To the rest, I just want to say hello. Anyway, I guess that you figured out that I drew the aformentioned tag for this fall. I have been in the unit a number of times Mearns quail hunting up in the Catalinas and have seen alot of deer and a few good bucks. But, I've never been up into the Rincons. I've heard that they hold some good bucks if you know where to go. So, my question to all of you is -- if you have any info on this unit and hunt, any you can spare would be gratly appriciated. I am not looking to kill the next world record, just a good, respectable buck that I would be proud to hang my 1st AZ tag on! Thank you and good luck to all of you this fall, Scottyboy

    Email response From Primos

Check out this e-mail I just received from RealTree!! Scottyboy Dear Scott, Thank you for taking the time to share your opinion with us on the resident and non-resident draws in Arizona. We appreciate your input. We understand your concerns and we take them very seriously. Please be aware that we're currently in the process of withdrawing our sponsorship of USO. We have not been party to, nor have we endorsed, USO's lawsuit over the availability of tags in Western states. Like you, we care very deeply about the outdoors, hunting and wildlife. Realtree contributes financially to conservation groups each year, and we'll continue to sponsor groups like Ducks Unlimited, the National Wild Turkey Federation, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Quail Unlimited/Dove Sportsman's Society ? groups that share our goal of ensuring a bright future for the hunting and shooting sports. Best regards, Bill Jordan

    Residents vs. Non-Residents

I agree with DesertBull. NR or Resident, we are all out to have an enjoyable hunt as possible, regaurdless of where we may hang our hat. Scottyboy

    Is it just me?

I kinda feel in a way that this topic is, in a way, directed towards me. The reason that I came to this site is because alot of the folks that I have come to know through the MonsterMuley forum also chat here. I figured I'd come to this site and find some helpful info on my upcoming hunt. And I did from alot of you and I thank you for the info that y'all shared. I am in no way looking for an easy way out to bag a buck this fall. I am fairly confident in my ability to put a pack on and leave the rest of the road hunters in the dust. I think I can hold my own in that department. I guided for 6 years in New Zealand, Africa, TX, and Mexico and so on, and so on. Just because you ask for info does'nt mean you are lazy. I was only looking to get a general idea on where I could start MY SCOUTING (sarcasum intended). I am in no way looking for someone to hold my hand and walk me to their secret, magic, honey-hole that no knows about!! Just an idea on where to start. because technically I am a resident of AZ but only because I have to be because of my job. I have only been here a little over a year and needed a little guidence on where to start so I can have an enjoyable and hopfully sucessful first coues deer hunt. Again, thanks to all the members who have given me a heads up for this fall. I think several of you already have said exactly what I would like to. We are all sportmen here and I don't see any harm in sharing our sport with one another. heck, who else really wants to know about stuff like this execept hunters like ourselves? Not alot of people that I know! Most of the public could care less! I think we should try and stick together on certain things like this. I would have no problem in sharing any info I could give about areas that I am familiar with back in TX or anywhere else I may know about. If you don't like the fact that many people come to sites just like this one to give AND RECEIVE info on hunts and to share hunting as a whole, I can't help that. But please, not look down your nose at the rest of us just because you don't agree with it . Scottyboy Any body else have an opinion on this ??????

    Email response From Primos

I received a letter back from Realtree. They basiclly said that they were debating on whether or not they were going to sever their ties with USO. I did e-mail them back and told them that I appriciated that they replyed back to me quickly. Scottyboy

Thanks guys for the replys. The areas off Reddington pass is where I was seeing Coues buks every time I was up there Mearns hunting. As for the other potential area mentioned, I;m going to be wearing out alot of boot leather in search of that 100 incher this fall!!! I'll see ya'll out there, Scottyboy
