    California Condor pic

AWESOME pic!! Thanks for sharing that one! I saw took this pic 2 years ago while we were at the Grand Canyon on the south side. My wife and I were standing on one of those rock outcroppings with all the other camera clicker tourists soaking up the sights.. I saw this bird coming near us from out over the canyon and at first I just thought it was just a buzzard. But the thing kept getting bigger and bigger.. Finally the thing flew right over us! And the Ranger kept right on yakking away and never looked up or said a word about it. I thought that was a little weird that a Grand Canyon Park Ranger wouldn't mention a condor if one was seen. The second time the bird flew over I said to him, "hey, isn't that a Condor?". This time he excitedly stated "YES!!" started to let all the people know just how much of a treat it was to see one and how rare they are and so on.. But he never even would have seen the thing had I not said something to him!
  2. nice pics Ernesto!! Looks like a great time up in the high country! Thanks for sharin' with us.

    Murphy's Guns in Tucson

I'll have to agree with this one.. I bought a shotgun there a couple of years ago. They made me feel like they were doing me a favor by purchasing the gun from THEM.. Never again. Very rude people and no customer skills at all in the whole store. It's gonna come back and really bite them in the butt one of these days with all of the great stores that are popping up in the general area with great customer service. I say screw 'em... they can keep their rude additude and stick it....

    started scouting this weekend

yep.. checked a couple of water holes the other day and put the glass out for awhile and saw a bachelor herd of 5 bucks near the water hole. Nothing huge, though..
  8. well said Amanda.. if you don't like reading about ALL types of hunts, then don't read them! This is a hunting site, not just a coues deer site. Granted, most of the topics are about coues deer ar coues deer hunting, but that doesn't mean that everything HAS to be a coues deer topic. I like reading about everyone's summer fishing trips and scouting trips, the first dove hunts of the season, the results of everyone's tags from the fall hunts.. no matter what the species, elk photos, goat photos, and so on.... I'm the first one to admit that I enjoy posting topics with pics on here that aren't related to coues deer hunting at all ( African safari hunting, Mearns quail hunting, Mt. hiking, etc..). But hey, thats because I don't get to coues deer hunt nearly as much as I would like to. Once a year if I'm lucky. If that was all we were to post on, MAN would there be some boring times had on here in between hunting seasons!

    Cabelas

They cleaned me out the other day. I dropped $1,300 in there before I even knew what the heck happened. I just couldn't pass on getting the triple points on the CC. Bought a new pair of Meidels, a great book by Craig Boddington, a Cabelas metal 2-gun case for airline travel, and the doozy.. a new gun safe. I've been in the market for one for awhile and I figured that I better at least buy one while I'm here and get the points on the CC instead of waiting till next month and not scoring on the triple points and the good sale price. That sold me. Now, I've got to go back up there on Mon. to pick the thing up in my truck. We were in my wife's car and that thing wasn't gonna make into the back seat!

    Unit 33

never woulda guessed it Bill! At least not in recent times. I could see those mountains being covered in them back in the days before everybody and their brother moved here to AZ. Now the question is.. Are these birds Merriams or Goulds? Kinda right on the line for either species.. I've seen Goulds several times down near Parker Canyon Lake and once in the Chiracahua mts. as well. Heard that there are some birds on Mt. Graham as well and that they are Goulds. And, can you hunt these birds in the Catalinas?? I've never heard of anyone seeing turkeys in there much less hunting them.. In recent times, of course...

    Anybody else gonna be there??

Az, glad your wallet was left untoutched cuz mine took a whopping hit.. Got a new pair of Meidels , a new hard gun case, an expensive book that I've been wanting for the last couple of years ( by Craig Boddington), and the biggest hit of them all, a new gun safe. I figured that I might as well get it today cuz I was already going to get one in the near future, and if I bought it today, I get the triple points on the CC. It was still a bad sting when that total came up on the register.. Tons of "VIPS" there today.. I figured half of Phoenix was a qualified " guest of Honor" today at around noontime! Man was it crowded... But, it was cool to see all of the mounts and get to finally see a good store move into the area. I am glad they didn't put that thing in Tucson. My bank account would be in serious jepardy! Gotta go back on Mon to pick up the safe cuz we took the wifie's car..
  14. Just wondering if any of ya'll are gonna be there on Wed at the pre grand opening? It's triple the points on the Cabelas Credit card that day!! Can't beat that!! I'll be there, anybody else???

    Anybody else gonna be there??

Outdoor Writer, I think you're right. I think there are going to be several of these so called "grand openings" throughout the week. heck, they already had one of them on Monday!! Must have one every night so that all the "VIP's" don't over run the place all at once!

    Anybody else gonna be there??

sounds like you didn't get an invite. cuz if you did, you'd know its from noon till 9 PM on WED...

    AZ CREDIT CARD HITS

I don't have any hits on my CC... thats cuz I don't put in with it!! I still do it the old fashioned way. Paper, Baby!! Its the best and most fail safe method of getting that tag!

I've been wanting to do that climb since I can remember.. Hook me up with some info if ya can find it and POST SOME PICS OF THAT CLIMB!! Just PM me about the boots and we'll get together..

    Another one down!

Well, we conquered the mountain!! We did a quick trip up to Flagstaff to see if we could put Az's highest point under the belt.. It was great weather and a great day for a hike. Beautiful forest and was a welcome relief from the raging desert heat. Even heard a few male blue grouse "hootin" from the treetops! We almost got pushed off a couple of times by monsoon storms, but they moved on and we made it to the top before any more decided to move on in.. With Humphreys under the belt, we now have done AZ @12,633 ft Humphreys Peak , NM @ 13,161ft. Wheeler peak, and TX @ 8,749 ft. Gudalupe peak.. Next on the list is a big one (14K+) in either CO or CA.. Here we are at the start of the climb. Here is a pic of a helo coming for a rescue mission. The gentleman had fallen and split his knee to the bone and was the worst cut I had ever seen in person before. It was over halfway around his knee and was over 2 inches wide. His kneecap was fully exposed. But, he was in good spirits and just had to catch a quick ride in the helo to get that thing stiched up! Just a scenery pic from the trail.. ON TOP OF THE HIGHEST PEAK IN AZ!! The bad part of this trip was my feet. I have been trying to get a pair of Meidels broke in since Feb.. I thought I had them broke in enough to finally do a hike in them, but that was not the case. I got the worst blisters I've ever had from these boots. I will never buy another pair of Meindels again and will stick to either my Vasques or my Columbias to do any more of my hiking in. If anybody wants an almost brand new pair of Meidels, just look in my trash can. They're all yours!
  24. Here is a pic that I took about a month ago and then forgot to show it to all of ya'll on account of the honeymoon trip plans. Anyways, I found this buck while at work while walking up in the hills and from the looks of it, he met his end from a Mt lion in the area. There were puncture marks in his throat and there were paw marks all around him. I think I caught the cat getting ready to bury his catch by the amount of debris that was up against him.. Just thought I'd share the pic with you guys.. Too bad, I bet he would have been a really good buck come this fall.. He had some really massive bases. BTW, I took the pic in the southern ends of unit 36B..

    Another one down!

hunter4life, you lucky devil!! We are planning on doing a fourteener either in CO or CA as our next big hike either in Sept or next spring ... In the meantime, I may go and do Guadalupe again for the fun of it. There are 4 of us that are seriously looking at a trip to Tanzania in 2008 to knock down Kilimanjaro. That is a mountain that I have dreamed of climbing since I was a little kid. How was it?? A great expirence?? If you could give us some info on who you went with and all that, that would be great as well.. A far as the Meidels go, they are basically brand new.. They are size 11, but these came sraight out of Germany and they say size 10, but that is the Euro size. They are crampon adaptable as well. Friggin' awesome boots, but they just don't fit my feet right for some reason.. They are the true Perfekts form Germany. Not the ones from Cabelas. You can't buy them in the US, but I found a company in Vancouver, British Columbia that sells them. Let me know if you are interested. Cuz I sure ain't gonna be wearing them again!!
