Kilimanjaro replied to Foundry Man's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
very nice!! I have always wanted to do a bronze.. I started the clay on one and still have it in the works, but I just have never gotten around to going ahead and finishing it.. Yours looks like it came out great!! The one I sarted on is a bull tahr running downhill on a really steep shale slide.. its gonna be about 18" tall when done.. if I ever get it finished! thanks for sharing! -

Casey, if I should decide to ever put in for one of those stinky little devils here in AZ, and should I actually decide to shoot one, I'll be sure to give you a ring!! I cannot stand even the smell of javies.. I can't think of a time I could even stomach the thought of eating one!! Every single one I've ever taken was GLADLY given by me to the welcoming arms of the local ranch hand population!! And they were just as thankful to receive them as I was to give them!! BTW Jim, they always wanted us to shoot at least one or 2 of those weener sized piggies for their spit roast!! They loved them that size!! -

ahh, the old Corsican mounts!! Any exotic hunter worth his weight in salt has a couple of these hanging around somewhere!! I love em! I gotta post you a pic of me when I was 16.. My first big game kill with a bow.. I was WT hunting and had a couple of big Corsican rams come in.. I smoked the bigger of the 2!! I was excited to say the least!! -

yeah, a little high. I was shooting downhill and hit him a tad bit higher than I wanted.. but he dropped like a sack of po-tat-oes.. I still cringe at those downhill shots.. i missed a 180+ muley 4 (yep, I said it) times one year with that same shot.. and the only thing I got out of the deal was a scoped brow and a baddly bruied ego.. I'll never forget that buck!! come to think of it, I missed that coues as well with the first one!! A good 3 ft over his back while he was munching on some barrel cactus fruit!! Call it buck fever if you will!! I get it bad sometimes! I'll be the first to admit it!! I'm outta here.. I'll be on some hill practicing my downhills if ya need me!! -

Here ya go Casey!! The South Africans don't call them Bleu Ap (pronounced Blow Opp) in Afrikaans for nothin'!! Directly translated, it means blue monkey and boy do the males live up to their name!! It was quite the expirence coming up with a paint schedule for those bad boys when I mounted him! -

thanks Jim, I did that tahr and chamios piece for the National Taxidermy comp back in '02.. or was it '03?? Anywho.. I took home a first place ribbon with it.. It has since been beat to a pulp with several moves across the country to various shows and from TX to AZ when I moved here, and then it survived a nice drop on the trailer floor to add to it's "character"!! But its mine and I still love it!! But thats why I got into taxidermy in the first place. To mount my own critters and then if I mess one up, RE-do it!! Casey, I guess I'll have to give everyone the "full frontal" money view!! I really didn't think of it at the time, but I'm sure everyone would get a kick out that one! -

I wouldn't call it a "trophy room" by any means, but here is where I kick my feet up in the evenings and call it a place to sleep!! Here are a few of the mounts hanging in my pad.. also have the zebra rug on the living room floor, but everyone knows what a zebra skin looks like, so I figured no pic on that one.. I have a ton of euros that don't get displayed.. they live in boxes in the garage... the wife says the euros are too creepy looking to be put in the house!! Glad you got the photo thing figured out Bowhunter.. you've put up alot of good pics!! What "lives" in my computer room.. kinda a mixture wall, pigs, muley, WT, etc... a Blackbuck and Gemsbok. These are the only euros allowed in the house!! A steinbok and a vervet monkey.. the wife's BB,and a Blesbok.. and the living room and den areas.. and here are a bunch of masks I have collected from various indegious people all over the place.. South Africa, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, Aussie, etc.. I also have a few bird mounts... a pair of Gambels, Scalies and Mearns, a Chukar, and a pheasant rooster, but Ya'll know what those all look like!! thanks for lookin!! Let's see some more of ya'lls!! -

I don't know of any places that "specialize" in bowhunting them, BUT I do have several friends how own places that have some great BB hunting. The ranches are set up for bowhunting as well, so getting one with a bow wouldn't be too much of a stretch.. I've taken two and the wife got one off the place over the years.. one was 19 1/2, the buck my wife shot was a old busted up fighter with a super long 23 1/2 good side with a broke off other side, and I took another one that went a hair over 22.. so there are plenty of good bucks running round on the place! you want to hunt them in the winter. The buck's coats will be at their blackest then.. In the summer, they lighten up considerably.. -

nice fallow Bowhunter!! I still haven't got me one yet! I have a buddies place back in TX who has some real monsters on it.. One of these days I need to go and get me one!! They can be a blast to hunt during the rut. They are by far the most aggressive deer out there. -

Dinosaur Tracks?
Kilimanjaro replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
not "looks like" dino tracks, they ARE dino tracks!! here are a couple of more pics from the State park itself, which is about 4 miles from the ranch where the first pic was taken.. I think you'll be able to see these a tad bit more clearly!! here you can see where they walked down the creek.. these creek beds are solid rock with these prints embedded into them.. and here is where a few of them must have stopped.. if you are ever headed to the Dallas area, take a few hours and detour to GlenRose, TX which is a couple of hours south and go to the Dinosaur Valley State Park.. It is really neat to see in person!! -
Dinosaur Tracks?
Kilimanjaro replied to COOSEFAN's topic in Miscellaneous Items related to Coues Deer
heres a pic for you guys.. One of my best friend's family has a ranch back in TX that is only about 4 miles from the Dinosaur Valley Sate Park near GlenRose, TX.. These tracks are literally everywhere over in that area of TX.. We found these down near the creek bed on his place a few years back while we were fishing down on the creek.. I think the dino was called a Theropod.. I've been to the park before when I was a kid, and they said it was like a mini T-Rex.. about 10-12ft tall.. there were THOUSANDS of tracks within the State park!! Theropods, duckbilled dinos, and a couple of others.. very cool to see in preson.. -
Christian, I think that may be a different Rainier than the one in WA.. looks more vertical and shorter than the one in WA, but I may be wrong and this might just be a different angle of the mountian. And BTW, we've already got our trip booked, plane tickets bought and legs in shape for Rainier!! We're flying out to Seattle on June 1st and we'll be climbing Rainier on the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th.. We're the first group of the summer season and they are telling us that the snow pack is DEEP this year and that will make for some super good travel on the glaciers.. it also keeps the crevasses more predictable.. now if I can just get used to that 15,000ft. air I'll be just fine!! If we knock Rainier out with realative ease, than Denali in AK will be in our sights within the next few years.. It is a mighty big undertaking though.. both in cost, time and common sense!! Its almost 21K ft.. We've got tenative plans already to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro in Tanzania in either '08 or '09 so that will come first before Denali. Should I decide to do those, I'll have to unfortunately put the brakes on the hunting for a few years.. Those big hills get mighty expensive after awhile!! BTW, you took some really great pics on that trip of yours!

I guess its time for a few piggie pics with all the Javie pics being posted up. here is my first warthog boar I shot back in 2000. and a second one from last year. and how 'bout a bushpig from Zimbabwe?? here's the biggest pig I've taken so far.. weighed on a cotton gin scale at 432lbs.. I was muley hunting back in TX when I came across this brute.. and here's a pic of a Javie hunt we did way back in college.. My fraternity leased a ranch in west TX one year and we did a weekend hunt and took a chunk outta the local Javie population.. had to dig around awhile to find those pics! Man, those were the days!! -
