Great lookin buck!! And with a muzzleloader at that!! -
I go through those feelings from time to time.. Mine usually shows up when hunting stuff that isnt at the top of my wish list, but I've drawn the tag. I felt the same way on my Oct hunt in 32. I just wasn't in it. Fortunately, its a passing feeling and it doesnt last!!!

What Is Considered A Big Bobcat?
Kilimanjaro replied to Hunter X's topic in Predator Hunting and Trapping
Ive probably shot around 30 or so bobkittys and the biggest Ive ever taken was on a ranch near Post, TX in the panhandle.. It went 37lbs. We were up there on an aoudad hunt and decided to do a bit of calling once dark. We called that cat in from over 1/2 a mile away and I ended up shooting him at around 10ft!! Most of the cats I've shot were an average of 17 to 20lbs. The biggest cat Ive ever seen came from Comstock, TX right on the TX/Mex border. My buddy is the gov't trapper for that county and is paid to keep the cat and lions in check in that part of Val Verde county. He caught one in a lion setup that went 48 or 49lbs. I cant remember which it was. Either way, the cat was unreal. He had been giving that ranch all kinds of problems. He was a goat kid killing fool. When Jack caught a cat or lion, he usually just took the cat down to the county Ag. office to get the bounty $$ and then just hung them on the fence at the ranch where he caught them. This cat he had lifesize mounted. -
Who’s ready for some quail!!!!
Kilimanjaro replied to IHunt2live's topic in Small Game, Upland Bird, and Waterfowl Hunting
Took the dogs out this afternoon because of the much needed cooler weather.. figured we'd chase a covey or 2 of blues or gambels. Got into 2 BIG coveys of blues late in the afternoon.. Made a TRIPLE with my O/U on the first covey (doubled on the rise and then scratched down a late flyer). Got some good dog work with a nice point and retrieve on all 3 birds. Headed back towards the truck and found another covey and made a long poke on a late jumper. Virgil brought him to hand and I saw that it was a really young bird, so I let the rest of them be. 4 was plenty! Sorry, no camera today!! Mearns season is almost upon us!! -
Good job guys!

If you guys could, just keep my family in your thoughts.. I'm not much of a religious person, but a thought or two would help us out. Yesterday in Deming, my cousin was killed my a trucker on I-10 while he was on his motorcyle. He and my uncle had done a ride out to San Diego to see my other cousin(his older brother). My uncle had headed back the day before. Jacob decided to stay an extra day to hang out with his brother for an extra day. He stopped here in Tucson for the night and got up the next morn to make his way home. He was on I-10 in Deming and there is a constuction zone that slows traffic way down going eastbound.. He was behind a Tahoe and out of nowhere, an 18 wheeler came up. The truck never even touched the brakes. He was hit from behind from the 18 wheeler going 80 and smashed into the butt end of the Tahoe. He never knew what hit him. 2 others in the Tahoe passed away as well. Of course, the trucker was unharmed. Jacob was only 23 and had a 1 yr old baby girl. The State of NM is charging the trucker as I type this.. Should I found out he was high or drunk, there'll be helllll to pay for him when he gets out of prison. My blood is boiling as I type this. Nobody should die like that. This is the 3rd death we've had to deal with in just the last 2 months.. My Grandfather passed away in late Aug. Then my Granny passed just 2 1/2 weeks ago from a sudden stroke.. I'm tired of going to TX to bury my family. Its been a rough patch for us.. thanks guys.

Big 2 Point!
Kilimanjaro replied to azcouesandelk's topic in Photography of Coues Deer and Other Wildlife
agreed Brian... I cant see any G1's.. 2 points and no mass wont add to much of a score. But he is wider than normal. I'd give him 73 as a conservative score. -

It was a bust hunt in some really good looking country.. We went in quite a ways up into the range, and were in a great glassing spot that you could see ALOT of great country, but we only came up with one tiny little 3X3. When that was the only deer we saw in an all day glassing session, I threw in the chips and called it. No sense in staying for that.. I wont be trying that unit again.. Guess I'll stick to the 36 units that I know well. At least it was fun to see some new country and climb around in it, so it wasn't all bad! It sure felt good to get out and deer hunt! Not all's lost though.. I've got a Mexico hunt in Jan!!

By the time I was out of college, I had already been guiding for 3 yrs with guiding expirence in TX, WY, Mexico and even a short stint in AK. After getting out of school, I decided I want to be a full time guide. I ended up in South Africa for a full yr with an apprenticeship under a PH. I got to do things and see things I would have never got to as a client. A lifetime of memories packed into one year!! After working in Africa, I somehow pulled a gig in New Zealand/ Australia. Again, I spent a full yearr over there and got to do things I never would have otherwise. I had another gig lined up in Spain after NZ, but I had a serious climbing accident in NZ and that put a halt to that. While I was back in TX in rehab for the injuries, I got to thinking about what I really wanted. Being around hunting ALL DAY, EVERYDAY had really begun to take the fun out of it for me. It had become just more work than fun. Dealing with some(more than a few) of the clients became a pain and the money wasn't very good. I wasn't making any money really. More like just breaking even in the end. All of that made me really nervous. I was starting to dislike the very thing I loved more than anything!!! So, I decided to give it up and keep hunting as my passion and hobby, NOT my career. Those times were some of the best of my life and I wouldnt trade them for anything, but I'm glad I didnt stay with it. Id be totally burned out of hunting by now for sure.

At about 4 yesterday afternoon, I made it back here from a 5 day trip back to TX. I had the evening off and decided to be a couch potatoe and order a pizza and have a few frosties while watching the Mon. night game. I called Blackjack Pizza cuz they're just down the road and ordered a pizza and 10 hot wings. Chowed down and was just watching the game when I got that "feeling". Stomach started rolling and all those goodies. For the sake of saving all of you the graphic details, I end up in the ER at 4AM with the worst case of food poisoning I've EVER had. I had lost 13lbs of water weight by the time I decided enough was enough. I really wanted to die. Had 3 liters of saline put back in me and a meriad of nausea meds and dirrhea meds pumped in me. I was cut at around 9 or so, and have litterally felt like someone has beat me with a lead pipe all over. All because of some little chicken wings. I haven't felt this bad since.... pretty much ever. Just a heads up guys!! Word to the wise, DO NOT EAT THE HOT WINGS FROM BLACKJACK PIZZA!!!!!

Went out Fri and the pups found a covey of Gambels while looking for Blues.. Got 2. It was so warm though that the pups said no more after about an hr and a half. We (they) took a nice dip in a stock tank and we called it an evening.
