Who needs New England? Color right here in the Pinals!
Kilimanjaro replied to CouesWhitetail's topic in Non-hunting trip reports
Great pics, Amanda.. The colors were really starting to show off while I was in 27 last month.. Escudilla up in 1 was INSANELY beautiful! -
I've done it, and will do it again... So, yes!!

Way to make the most of a HARD tag to fill!!

I have a good buddy who, for some odd reason, thinks that I like to throughly enjoy torturing myself in the name of all that is manly, and testostorone filled, just like him.. ie. mountain climbing high peaks, shark diving, running marathons, etc.. In short, the whole sado masachism type of torture that is those types of activities! In the last two weeks while I was out of touch elk hunting, he has since taken the liberty of putting together a group and signing us up for this race in England for the 2011 race... I had never heard of it until he let me in on it.. It is INSANE! It's named the Tough Guy Challange!! It's all that it says it is.. I must say, it sounds like a crazy good time to have! A good "boys" trip to England and maybe then France to run a crazy race and take in the sights and local scenery for a few days!! Check out the race pics from earlier this year!! As I said, INSANE!! I can't wait!! The pics in the link are awesome.. They capture the mood of the race to a tee.. And some are HILARIOUS! http://www.boston.com/bigpicture/2009/02/t...lenge_2009.html Any CWT.com takers??

Agreed! I should have been watching the weather forcast.. A super nice morning with great humidity for the pups.. We just dont see too many of these types of mornings during quail season..
-
It felt like you WERE there, Scott!! We were danged sure glad to have you along.. I was keeping Scott up to date with info as much as I could, as often as I could via phone.. Thanks Scott for all the help! Thanks guys!

It will be another good Mearns year.. They had a fairly decent monsoon down there.. As for the Tucson area Gambels and Blues, I would say they are in for a rough winter season.. They spring moisture was awful at best..

Ive got awhile to get ready for this one.. Looks like we're England bound in Feb 2011.. Now how to figure out how to train for something like this!! That dude in pic 14 is NUTS.. Literally!!

It's TOTALLY a straight up man challange!! He called me out in abstinencia!! I am all over this!
-
NRS, yep.. those sheep were just down the road a couple of miles from the campsite.. There was 1 in the herd I saw that was a hammer of a ram.. The other was going to be in a couple more seasons and the 8 others barely had milk off of their lips!

Thanks guys! I totally agree, Busted.. It was a totally diff hunt that what I made it out to be in my head prior to the hunt.. The date change for the hunt that AZGF implimented this season made the hunt fall just short of the full blown rut, IMO.. I can count on one hand how many bugles I heard during legal shooting hours.. They just weren't all that fired up during the hunt.. The weather surely didn't help either.. The 1st morning I awoke up there, the thermostat read 21 degrees. The morning I shot the bull, at the same time, it read 41. Ah, well.. That's the way the cards are dealt! Not one of us can control the weather, no matter how MUCH we'd all like to be able to! It was a challanging hunt for sure, and I had a blast trying to outwit one of those legendary AZ brutes that are out there. I can't wait to get another chance at one!
-
You're right Larry!! I always forget how dang early AZ opens the season.. I usually dont get into quail mode till Mis Nov.. a few gambels and blue hunts right before Mearns opens up.. MUCH too warm out there right now for the pups.. The snakes are still thick too.

Here's a few pics to contribute to the new forum folder! How about these?? What I would give to have been able to hunt some of these countries where hunting is no longer.. Not coues, but hey, they're vintage!
