    southern arizona

There definately is a problem with illegal immigration and drug smuggling but in most cases they will not bother you. I have seen hundreds of illegals and several drug smugglers and I have never had a problem. They will come into a camp looking for water. There is always the possibility of getting in the way of a drug smuggler and having a problem but it is not to common. This last season I spent over 30 days down there and never had a problem and I have spent alot of time down south on previous deer seasons and quail hunting.

    Second Scouting Trip

Well my dad and I went up to get another couple days of scouting in so we loaded up the truck and left the valley around 6:30 in the afternoon. Got up to Flagstaff and decided to get a little bite to eat (later find out not a good choice ) . Got to where we wanted to camp and it started to snow. So I frantically get the tent setup while the wall of white comes down. Get the tent all setup and crawl into bed around 11. Wake up Saturday morning at 6 and look outside and see this So we get into the truck and go to check some areas that we were told to and saw some elk and antelope. Kept on going and check some tanks to make sure they were holding water. Got back to camp around 3 and decided to hike up on a nearby hill and glass a little bit. After attempting to glass for an hour decide to get back to camp because the snow flurrys and the 30 mph winds were driving me crazy. While hiking back to camp I decide and stop and glass the hills right behind camp and was able to find a herd of 9. Got back to camp around 5:30 and was standing next to the fire when a friend pulled up and wanted to show me some spots. We go ahead and go to some of his spots and see some more elk and antelope. Got back to camp around 7:00 and hung out around the fire til 8:30 or so and hit the hay so we could get out again this morning to scout some more. Wake up this morning around 6:30 and head out from camp around 7 and go to check out some more areas. We find some deer and some antelope but no elk on this venture. Got back to camp around 10 and want to check out one more area and check a couple more tanks. We pack up camp and go out and find some more elk, antelope and deer. These pictures arent that great because I was getting heat waves in 45 degree weather Must have been because I was taking the pictures over a big field. Here are some more scenery pictures that I thought turned out pretty well. Throughout the weekend I saw around 70 to 80 elk, 30 to 40 antelope and 20 to 30 deer. It was a good weekend spent learning the area and seeing lots of game.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

No not at all. It all depends on the adapter you get for your binos to attatch to the plate which will slide or clamp onto your tripod. Go with the outdoorsman adapter! It is machined aluminum and is a universal attatchment.

I will have to head up there and look around in one of my future scouting trips. Thanks for the heads up Doug!

    Bowtech: Allegiance or Tribute?

The allegience has a little higher IBO but both bows shoot great. It will take alot of practice to be efficient out to 100 yards but bowtech makes a great bow to do it. I know that the allegience will be my next bow. What is your draw length? Also what kind of arrows will you be shooting and how long will they be with what grain tip?

    My 2006 Summer

I actually broke my rod right at the end of king season but I always carried an extra rod with just incase. I was using a St. Croix Avid 9 ft. 4 piece 8 wieght. Most people like to use 10 weights for kings but it is so much fun bringing them in on with lighter weight rods. I actually caught several kings on my 5 weight which was an absolute blast. When I got home I sent my rod to St. Croix and they sent me a new rod no questions asked. Best customer service I have ever had with a fishing company.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

Why not get a pair of 15x56 swaros for the demo price for $1600 that way you save $400 from the original price and you get what I think is a better set of binos. Also if you can get a larger exit pupil no matter how small it is always worth it.

    Strutting!

When are you comming? I'v been dying to get out in 8 and kill some of the birds I'v scouted out. My neice has a youth tag for 8 but it doesn't look like she is going to go "Tines" on here, has an 8 tag also. He keeps saying he's going to show but hasn't shown yet I'm sure he won't mind if you come and kill his bird for him. He needs to be shot cuz he's gitten old fat and lazy, and if he aint gona show then he can't complain if we shoot his bird Next weekend I will only be able to make it up on Sunday because of work but I plan on driving up Saturday night and getting out there first thing and hunting all day. Then hopefully the following be able to stay and hunt monday and the following weekend if necassary.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

I guess I dont understand what you guys are talking about with the swarovskis price being a factor since the leica duivoid 10-15x50 is $450 more than the 15x56 swarovskis. I think it is swaros hands down.

    Swarovskis Vs. Leica

They are both great bino's but the only thing with the leicas is that they only have a 50mm objective so you will not be able to get as much light in for first and last light. I have looked through both alot and I prefer the swarovski's but it is all about what fits you best.

    Spring bear hunt

Spring bear is probably one of the toughest hunts in AZ. Also you found somthing that very few people ever do. Make sure to mark that on a map and get the skull later on this season

    They Won't Leave Me Alone!

You might come upon some snakes on an October hunt. I seem to see the snakes start to disappear around the beggining of October but there are always some out year round. I have come across them while quail hunting in December and January but they are far and few between.

    They Won't Leave Me Alone!

That is not fair Jim the closest I can go from my house to glass for deer and shed hunt is a 45 to 60 minute drive depending on traffice You know what, I have hunted a bunch by the house over the years, I've killed two bucks and a Javi out of there and I know where there are a bunch of sheds out there, but I have never had a desire to get very serious about it....even though it's so close. I don't get that excited finding Muley sheds ( unless they're huge ) the terrain sucks to say the least....it's better suited for Sheep and the main reason..........THERE ISN'T ANY COUES DEER! What you complainin' for Christian....YOU'VE got COUES DEER less than 1 hour from YOUR house! I used to know where there were some nice coues an hour away from my house before the fire went through but now I can only find the floppy eared deer in there and some javelina. I am sure they will move back into the area and are probably in there now but I just can't find them right now! Those aren't the Coues I was talkin' about.....head East! They are a little easier to find over there. OK I know the ones you are talking about now but those are just over an hour away
