Well part 2 is not as elaborate as part 1 but it sure was fun. My work schedule had changed so I had Tuesday and Wednesday off. My buddy Randy also had the same days off and said that he would go along for the ride and help me out, which I can't thank him enough for! Waking up at 3:30 Tuesday morning I loaded all my gear in the truck and went to pick Randy up for our drive. We left Randy's house around 4:30 and hit the road. We stopped and got Randy his permits for the rez and headed out in hopes of finding a true San Carlos monster. We got to the point we wanted to glass from right at first light and setup. We weren't glassing 15 minutes when Randy found a good buck. After looking him over we determined he was 90 class 3 point and decided to keep on looking. We continued glassing for the next hour turning up some does and little bucks when I glassed up a good buck about a mile out. I got the spotter him and saw tall tines and a wide frame. I let Randy check him out and the buck moved out of view for us. At this point I am excited thinking we had found a buck over the 100 mark. We loaded up and to go reloacte the buck. After an hour hike we popped up over the ridge and I saw a deer on the hillside. Randy got a look at the buck with his 10's and said it was him. I took a quick look through my 15's to make sure also and saw the tall tines. I then setup my gun and settled in for the shot and asked for a range. I dialed my turret for 315 yards and took some deep breathes. The crosshairs were right on the bottom of his chest as I attempted to press down on the pack to bring the back of the gun down when I touched off the trigger! the buck moved about 10 yards to our right. This time I got all settled in with the crosshairs dead on him. I squoze the trigger and the buck just dropped in his tracks. We loaded up and circled around to the buck and saw that he was not what we thought, but the buck is an absolutly gourous animal! I cant thank everbody that helped out enough Randy, Jesse, my dad, Bryan and I cannot thank Matthew enough times! Here is the area I shot him out of Setting up for the shot The buck Randy and I with the buck The packout Hope you all enjoy it!

Just got back from my first trip to San Carlos and it was a blast! My dad and I got to the reservation on thursday and went to find a camping spot, but with the blizzard that was going on we had to camp at the campground in town, which was nice extremly nice since we had full hookups. We went out that afternoon to check out some areas, but couldnt see much of anything do to the fact there was a whiteout. On friday we went out friday morning to try to do some glassing, but with some weather still in the area it was tough. We managed to glass up several does throughout the morning. Here is the area we were glassing throughout the morning. Going through a creek we were welcomed to some steam. That afternoon Matthew showed up and we went out to do some more scouting. We scouted all afternoon turning up some bucks including a buck that needed a closer look the next morning. Saturday morning we woke up early ready to find a shooter buck. When we arrived at the first glassing point it was -9 outside! Matthew had told me that the first 100 inch buck was mine, but with alot of time available for this hunt I was looking for something really special. We glassed for several hours turning up around 10 does and several smaller bucks when we decided to move around the hill to see up a canyon. We setup to glass when I glassed up a big buck. I looked through the spotter and saw alot of mass on a 3 point frame. I figured the buck would go in the mid to upper 90's and told Matthew if he wanted to shoot it that it was his. We moved around to get closer and when we went to relocate the buck all we could find was a small 3 point muley! We picked the area apart and could not relocate the buck. With some doubts from Matthew thinking that the buck I saw was the muley when went and got the truck to drive up to a higher point to glass. We werent there 5 minutes when we relocated the heavy 3 point and now we were able to see the buck had a kicker coming off his right G3. Matthew setup for the shot and settled in. The shot went right and the buck started to move up the hill. Several shots later, all of which went right, the buck went over the hill out of site. Confused as to why this was going on we went to make sure Matthews gun was dialed in, we found out that it was 6 to 7 inches to right. We adjusted the zero and Matthew took another shot at 475 after dialing the turret up and everything was dead on now. We glassed the rest of the day turning up several bucks including a mid 80's type 2 point with 5 inch eyeguards. It was cold Here is a smaller 3 point bedded that we found in the afternoon Sun setting after the first day Sunday morning we went back to the same area in hopes to find that same buck again for Matthew. My buddy Jesse came up saturday night to help out all day sunday and monday. We werent setup for 5 minutes when Matthew found the buck chasing 2 does across the hill. The buck was covering alot of ground so we just watched in hopes he would calm down and give us an opprotunity. The buck bedded down near the top of the hill so we made our move. We moved in and as we were setting up to relocate the buck he stood up because of 2 smaller bucks sparring near him. So we setup for the long shot. Matthew dialed his turret and took aim. After the shot we heard the distinct WOP sound. The buck went out of view for us, but thanks to Jesse he was able to see the buck bed down. We werent sure of the hit so we made so Matthew would move in on the buck and I would go around the backside to watch incase the buck busted out. I setup on teh backside to glass when I found another mid 90's type buck chasing 3 does up a hill. I kept glassing when I heard a gunshot. What felt like 15 minutes which was probably 30 seconds I got the call on the radio that there was a dead deer. Walking up on the buck we realized how much mass the buck had and how bladed he was. Also we were able to see that he had a kicker busted off his left antler and had double eyeguards at one point that were busted off. Glassing point Buck bedded Matthew and his buck The whole gang Some pictures to show the character The buck ended up going right around 100 with 3 broken extra points! That night we went to try to find me a buck now. We glassed several areas turning up does and smaller bucks at each point. At our last stop at last light I glassed up a large framed buck, but couldnt tell how big he really was due to the distance and low light. Matthew had to head out Sunday night because of work so it was just my dad, jesse and me. We went to the area we saw the big framed buck the night before turning up 3 bucks chasing 1 doe. The biggest of the 3 bucks was a 90 class buck that had his beam snapped off after his eyeguard on one side and his g2 snapped off halfway up on the other. Throughout the day we glassed several different areas finding bucks at each stop but nothing over 85. Our last stop put us right back where we started when Jesse glassed up a small 3x4 chasing 3 does. We kept glassing when I glassed up the big framed buck again but he went into a juniper and bedded before I could get a good look at him again. One of the glassing areas Then Tuesday we setup to glass the backside of the mountain where we saw the large framed buck turning up a 160 type muley chasing does, but no whitetail. We circled around to glass from the same point we saw the large framed buck turning up NOTHING! We moved up to check another point finding another big 2 point. It was the slowest day yet, but I will be back up for the last 4 days. Here is the big 2 point Hopefully part 2 will have more pictues with my success

I am looking at getting a new pack here in the next few months and am curious what you all think of the badlands ox. I was looking it over today and like the lightweight external frame and the meat slot on it. My questions is does anybody on here have one or heard how comfortable it is with a heavy load? I have always loved my eberlestock but after 5 hard seasons with it it is on its last leg.

Work schedule got changed so I will be out the next 2 days trying to find me a monster! Will be posting pictures and Part 2 when I get back!

140 inches between both bucks that is Well my dad and I both had December tags this year and we both tagged out in the first 4 days. Not big bucks, but it was a great hunt we spent together. Also the first 2 days we had Carl (YOUNGGUNZ), and I cant thank him enough for coming out and helping. The first day my dad and Carl went to one point to glass the flats and some draws that I couldn't see from up in the canyons. Almost instantly Carl had found several bucks in the flats. My dad just wanted another 3 point and there were 2 of them working a ridge so he was off. The bucks never would stop moving so my dad never was able to relocate them for a shot opprotunity. I had only found does that morning so I decided to go up to the same point as them to try to locate one of the 3 points for my dad again. We glassed til dark only turning up does that afternoon. Day 2 my dad woke sick so it was just me and Carl. We went back onto the same point in hopes of finding something bigger. We glassed all morning finding several bucks including the same 3 points from the morning. Hearing alot of shots around us we decided to check out another area. Driving into the new area we saw my dads truck, apparently he was feeling better, but was going to just hang out around the roads glassing. Carl and myself hiked up into the hills midday in search of a big buck. We glassed midday turning up a 2 point when Carl said he found a 3 point. I called my dad and asked if he wanted to go after him. He said he did so I circled around to setup above the buck in shooting range and relocate him. My dad made it to the point about an hour later and the buck was still bedded. We setup my gun and dialed the turret to 325 and waited. When the buck stood up my dad tried to readjust a little and accidently shot! The buck ran down the hill and came up on a ridge and stopped. I ranged him at 350 this time and dialed the turret. My dad settled down and made a perfect shot dropping the buck in his tracks! This buck had been shot earlier this year in his left front leg and was struggling also. Here is the view from where the shot was My dad setting up for the shot Find the buck bedded Here is the buck Day 3 we went to a different point and glassed all morning turning up alot of does and some small bucks. We decided to take the afternoon off and focus on getting the meat taken care of. Day 4 we went into one of my favorite spots where we have seen alot of good bucks in the past. Glassing before light I found 2 bucks including an 85 type buck, but they went over the ridge before a decision could be made. We glassed all day turning up does on every hill with a few small bucks here and there when I finally located another buck around 1:30. I could tell he was a 3 point but not how big due to heat waves. So we moved closer to get a better look. We set up and relocated the buck bedded at 577 yards. I debated shooting for a while, I called and texted several friends to see what they thought. After weighing all the options I decided to take the buck. I setup up my spotter with my camera video behind it and dialed my turret to the 575 mark and took the shot. The buck never left his bed! Now I can focus on my San Carlos tag starting January 1! Here is the view from where the shot was Setting up for the shot The buck bedded (he got up and turned before I decided to shoot) Here is the entrance on the buck The buck Here is the video of the shot, jsut click the picture link (I shoot around the 1 minute mark) I was planning on holding out for a larger buck, but I couldnt pass up the opprotunity with my dad present. It was a great hunt and I can't wait to do it again!

Well I just had my new baby delivered to me last week, and I still haven't named her. Still waiting for the scope that is supposed to be on it to come in (Leupold 6.5-20x50 VX-III w/ fine duplex), but I figured I would put my old scope on it and take a couple of pictures. It is built off a Remington 700 action that has been blueprinted, has a McMillan Classic stockthat is pillar bedded, 26 inch Hart barrel with a #5 contour and is chamberd in .280 Ackley Improved. The gun weighs in a little heavy at just under 9 pounds with no scope, but should be a tack driver! I cannot wait to start working up some loads and getting this bad boy out to the range. So what should I name this one guys and gals?
-
Just an update with this setup. I was able to put on my 6.5-20x50 VX-III with fine duplex. I got my load dialed in shooting 60.5 grains of Reloader 22 at 3085 fps. Just got back from playing with the turret and have it dialed in to 600 yards so far. Shooting .5 to .6 MOA. Couldn't be happier with the gun and how it is performing. Now I just have to whack me a buck in December and January!
